  1. Hi guys. I was wondering if someone could tell me if the ice is off the lakes up there? I leave next tuesday for a week of pike but ive been hearing conflicting reports on ice out and water levels. Either way im going but any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
  2. We have had to rip a couple out of the ice. One we saved one came home in seven or eight pieces. My advice would be to start chipping. Bring some friends!
  3. What were you fishing for? I fish the holland sometimes
  4. Big spoons and double jointed anything in the spring. Suckers are a safe bet anytime but i think spring is best when both fish are in shallow.
  5. The holland river and cooks bay are good spots to look especially in the spring. They love warm water and weeds and are usually shallow. Worms or other organic baits are the way to go. I used to catch them at night under a bridge near washago with tiger shrimp. They have a ton a of tiny razor sharp teeth and a heck of a grip so spreaders might be a good idea for unhooking.i live on the canal and usually catch a couple while fishing for bullhead in spring. Hope this helps good luck!
  6. Also a good idea to check the small fuel hose under the cowling running to the carb. If its loose hard or cracked it may be losing pressure. I changed one last season.
  7. I used to be almost strictly pike. One of the oldest species on earth for a few good reasons. Once i started trolling salmon on lake o i had some fun in the summer when the pike went deep. Now i like to fish pike in spring, salmon in summer, pike and musky in the fall. All i can say is that im glad ive expanded my horizons but pike are still #1. Good luck with your new pursuit:)
  8. Thats sweet. Ive been thinkin about getting one of a big old pike.
  9. Little pike might be stupid(overly aggresive) But the big ones can be pretty crafty.
  10. I did two sets of pork ribs in the oven at home recently and they were pretty good I put in roughly(i dont actually measure) Tbsp sea salt Tbsp black pepper Tbsp white pepper Tbsp paprika Tsp cayenne Tsp garlic powder Tbsp la grille sweet chili and peppers Tsp ground mustard Tsp oregana Mix this in a bowl and handrub onto both sides of the ribs, let sit however long you like. Drink beer:) Cook ribs meat side up for about 1 hr 45 min at 325 in oven on middle rack. Put a lot of bbq sauce of your choice on ribs and cook BONE side up for another 30 min.flip ribs cover meat side and cook meat side up for 15 more min. Enjoy. P.s. You dont have to u put on bbq sauce but i would. I used diana sauce chicken and rib with some pc tequila habenero On top.
  11. Get a gmc? He wanted to fix one problem not have a constant stream of them
  12. One week of pike fishing in northern ontario for the may 24. One week off in july for the great ontario salmon derby. One long weekend of musky somewhere. Cant wait!
  13. Definitely go to the bluffs. Thats where we fish the derby july and august and it puts out some monsters.
  14. Hi, ive fished up that way many times but i have not been for a couple years. We always took the 4x4s and made it where we needed to go. We always fished pike so i cant tell you about the pickeral, but the weather was really hot and the pike fishing was terrible compared to years past. The water level was also quite low but with a good winter things could be lookin up. The road itself is pretty smooth sailing its only when you get off the main road it can get interesting. I hope this helps good luck.
  15. Sounds like fun to me. Reminds me of times when my friends and i would skip school to fish carp and catfish in the holland river. Now we skip work;)
  16. I cant remember how long ago but there was a few cars that had lugnuts loosened in the simcoe county area. They were done to random vehicles in the area. Im not sure anyone was caught or if a motive was determined. It never hurts to check your vehicle because there are some whackjobs out there
  17. I need a phone for work, however im glad to own it now. I always have it for fishing which means i always have a camera and a lifeline if needed. the rest of that facebook twatter crap is a waste of time
  18. Water was 53- 54 on the surface, i was unaware that rivers do not turn over but i was surprised at the sheer lack of bait or fish in less than 40 ft of water. Ive never fished the french before but im going to make damn sure i learn from the experiance
  19. So i did 2.5 days on the french last weekend and came up empty i had one fish follow very sluggishly twice but wouldnt hit. I would like to say thanks for the help i was offered before i left and under different circumstances might have put one in the boat. The weather was mostly wind rain and cold but we kept at it for several hours a day. All the fish we marked were in at least 45 + feet of water and glued to the bottom. We cast, trolled and jigged to no avail. I believe the river may have recently turned over and made the bite tough. Time for some fall pike on simcoe if i can get my motor running. Thanks again guys tightlines.
