  1. Big ones always go back (assuming they will survive). Only keep what I will eat and I choose not to eat older and prime breeders.
  2. Doesn't this fall under the "reality" TV genre? In the end it is just entertainment (except for the horses - they really beat the snot out of one on yesterdays show).
  3. Blackstone has always been a bit of hit and miss for me. Lots of variety in there but too many off days. I do however have good success on the Largemouth in Lawson Bay. Beyond what you mention there is Muskie, Walleye, Crappie and Lakers in there.
  4. It's good to have both for the many reasons listed here. Both are convenient in their own way, the knife especially when camping on back lakes without power!
  5. Just be aware that a large snapper can do a lot of damage, including remove several fingers if given the chance. The safest method to move a snapper is to grab it around the base of the tail and carry it (away from your body) and relocate as quickly as possible. Do not lift by any location on the shell since it will get you with the powerful jaws or sharp claws. You might be surprised how far they can extend their necks when they want to take a chunk out of you!
  6. IMO the only appropriate time to "gun" it is when pulling a skier out of the water. Gunning is the least fuel efficient way to operate a boat. For Q2. Priming the bulb will more than likely resolve your cold start issue. I would reserve judgement on the tune-up until the motor is fueled properly.
  7. Is that Sidney with the CUP? Where is Stoty??? LOL!! Oh and does this mean Hossa will be headed back to Pittsburgh?
  8. Did he have a choice? Yes Did he follow voter sentiment? No Would the US start a war if we turned off the oil tap? ABSOLUTELY!! The second GM US has any future difficulty you can bet the pain will be experienced in Canada. The dumbest thing you can do is pump money into an entity outside of your control or jurisdiction. Kiss your money goodbye and all the good things it could have done if our Government had a backbone.
  9. And remember Bass is out of season during your visit.
  10. The Old Town motor mount should be robust enough depending on the weight of the motor. However, I think they were intended for much lighter electric trolling motors. Are they worth the money? is a question only you can answer. To me they are not and so I would fabricate my own mount (for an electric trolling motor). I may change my opinion if my mount breaks and leaves me stranded or motor on the bottom LOL! Certainly the question of imbalance while traveling solo is difficult to answer due to so many variables. Most canoes tend to balance much better when the load is evenly distributed. Sitting in the back with a motor off the side is certainly not optimum and moving to the middle is not an option. You'll need to load up the front and sit off to the side to provide better balance. But doing so will make you more vulnerable to sudden changes in balance caused by waves, aggressive hook sets, etc. In my opinion it all comes down to the weight of the motor and how you can reliably offset it. Good luck and let us know how it works out.
  11. Extremely generous offer that I hope to take you up on if/when I get out that way.
  12. Let the TWEATS begin!
  13. The link below provides a bit of insight. http://www.webmd.com/pain-management/knee-...gament-injuries I had a grade 1 injury of the ACL years ago and recovered fully with rest and physio. Good luck.
  14. Tried to do my part but they were not co-operating so well today. Did catch quite a few but mostly small ones. Took some home including this big girl. Great day to be out.
  15. I picked up a couple of 4lb and 6lb "finese" spools at BPS during the $1.99 sale for use on my light and ultra-light rods. Prior to use I did my usual break test and found that each spool was overrated. The 6lb is now remarked 4lb and will used on my ultra-light. The 4lb is now remarked 2lb and "might" see some duty on my ice fishing rods?? It was a cheap gamble so if it doesn't cost me any fish.....
  16. Bettman would rather see a franchise rot in the US then allow Jim B. to buy and move it to Canada. Sad but the enormous egos of two men will stand in the way of improving the fortunes of the game. The union needs to step in and assert that a move to a Canadian location REGARDLESS of who owns it will improve the financial status of everyone in this revenue share environment. The Leafs would also benefit by paying LESS in revenue share monies to dog franchises in locations that couldn't give a HOOT about hockey. I thought this was a fishing forum....
  17. We've been doing this for several years in and around fishing seasons!!
  18. Like ccmt said it was a challenge holding to a spot with the high winds. Didn't find any crappie but lots of bluegills. Will try again of course.
  19. Nice report and pics. Time to load the canoe and head up!
  20. Beauty Laker and of course everyone loves a Golden! Ours is currently laid up after cruciate surgery. He'll be out of action until bass opener!
  21. OFAH is new to the publishing game. Perhaps they meant for you to get the notice on April 1st
  22. Just completed the survey and encourage everyone to do so. The future of our fishery is in your hands.
  23. Coleman RAM-X = take a beating Easy to paddle = many choices Looks purdy = cedar strip Challenge to find all three in one canoe but shouldn't be impossible.
  24. A family pass for $40 is available if the your party of 4 includes 2 kids under 15. See this for further information. Don't know if the $2 coupons can be used with the family pass. http://www.sportsmensshows.com/Toronto/visitor.htm It does not appear that free parking at Ontario Place is going to be available this year.
  25. The approach I take in getting the best price is: 1. Make it clear all the items you want and that you are looking for an "all in" price 2. Indicate that you are taking competitive bids from several sources but may not take the lowest bid 3. (the key) You are ready to make a decision by a defined date (today, tomorrow, next day) Many times a dealer will bump the price to make allowances for what you may ask to have thrown in after being quoted (point 1). Taking the lowest bid is pointless if the item has to come from 1/2 around the world at an undetermined date (point 2). The best price is not being offered to a "tire kicker", you must demonstrate you are ready to buy (point 3). It is also best to negotiate with the person able to make the decision and/or has the most to gain in a sale. Good luck.
