  1. Hi Stoty, your description of the lake you are going to matches that of my favourite Parry Sound retreat. I'm also looking for the big Pike on this lake and have found trolling to be the best producer when looking for Pike. I should say that the Pike last weekend were not in their usual spots (for this lake). I have to imagine they have moved to cooler locations (surface temp was 76 degrees). I'll certainly be watching this thread with interest.
  2. Welcome to the board Derek.
  3. Congrats Rich on your latest PB. I guess BBR now stands for Busy Boy Rich!
  4. PB?
  5. 'bout 3lbs?
  6. WTG danw on your first Pike. I also fish from a canoe and always wonder if the Pike I've got on the line is going to freak out when he gets to the boat. For those odd times I don't have a net I just give him a little extra time. I can relate to the treble issues others mention. I was lucky that the treble was extremely sharp and sliced my finger rather than pierced it. After all the hooks we stick in them, its a little justice when they get one in us. Welcome to the board.
  7. Beauty Pike and great advice from ADC. Even if you don't get off you'll have a license to operate anything. Did I say beauty Pike?
  8. Well done and nice pictures. Seems crayfish colour baits would be the best bet here!
  9. Nice picture, thanks for sharing.
  10. Hey "Mike The Pike" unless you have a float plane with short take off and landing it will be very difficult to get in. Mostly private property around and a very diligent land owner that does everything to keep people out. I had permission from the other land owner. Didn't mention the Moose that we saw as well - cool day! I'll be returning again for sure.
  11. I finally convinced my son to spend a couple days with me at my favourite northern hideaway. The first day we warmed up catching Pike on the main lake and looking for Black Crappie. Today we moved to a nearly inaccessible back lake for the Bass opener. WHAT A DAY IT WAS! We had heard that this lake was almost NEVER fished on and we believe it. We were catching so many Largemouth Bass (mostly 15-17" range) that we tried things that shouldn't work - like topwater in the middle of the day - and they were hitting that as well. The largest however came on soft plastics (black tube). The most unbelievable day I have had fishing and I got to enjoy it with my son - priceless! I can't wait to get back again.
  12. Welcome to the board gregger27. It's a great place to learn and socialize. Enjoy your stay.
  13. Great report Jen and nice work. Beauty when the family gets together (until fileting time!).
  14. Do you own a teflon suit? You're going to need it asking for help without providing an intro...
  15. What a difference a day makes, eh! Congrats on your PB.

  17. Good one Joey - do you have another?
  18. Great report and nice photos. Thanks for sharing.
  19. RFI PM sent!
  20. Nice smallies, wtg! That wally must be a Jenny Craig member!
  21. Thanks for the great story 007. The lost lures reminded me of myself last year. I take fewer chances now and (touch wood) haven't left any lures to a Pike's sharp teeth. Almost enjoy fishing for Pike now!! Can't wait for your next report.
  22. What Roy said - too funny!!
  23. I am mostly catch and release except when hooked badly or looking for Crappie.
  24. I like to see what I am buying and prefer to support the local economy. It's a shame to see local tackle stores go down - hard to buy live bait on-line!
  25. Hi Pamela, Give this simple recipe a try... Southwest Salsa 6 Medium Tomatoes -- Peeled 1 Medium Onion -- Coarsely Chopped 2 Cloves Garlic -- Minced 1 tsp. Olive Oil 1 tsp. Granulated Sugar 2 Fresh Green Chilies -- Diced or 1 Small Can Green Chilies -- Drained Juice of 1 Lime 2 tbs. Fresh Cilantro -- Chopped Place tomatoes in a pot of boiling water for approximately 30 seconds and remove with a slotted spoon. let tomatoes cool in chilled water and remove skin and quarter. Place all ingredients in the bowl of a food processor and blend until coarsely chopped. Add salt and pepper to taste. Serve with tortilla chips as an appetizer. NOTES: Makes approximately 2 cups (you'll want to make a lot more!) Cheers, Barnie
