  1. Thanks everyone - still don't know where I'm headed tomorrow but I'll let you all know how it goes!
  2. Taking Wednesday to fish, but my day will be split in half. I was thinking of heading to Bronte around lunch and for the rest of the day, but I need somewhere to go in the morning. Can anyone suggest somewhere that's within 30-45min or so of Richmond Hill, for the morning? I was thinking of going up to Keswick or the Holland River.
  3. My Dad and I were there at the end of May. It was our first trip like this, and we had a great time. We had some luck in the Montreal River part of the lake - got walleye, bass, pike. We were told that the back lakes were much better for walleye but we never actually went out to them. Hanging Lake also has some trout. I'd recommend this place, for what it's worth.
  4. I feel much more educated on the subject, that's for sure. There's a bit more of a divide than I expected - I guess it's the sport vs. food mentality. Some of it is a matter of opinion, though (eg, "big fish taste bad"). If I ever catch something big I probably will keep it the first time to see for myself.
  5. I should've know where this thread would go.
  6. Thanks for all the replies folks - I feel more educated on this subject now!
  7. I've been lurking on these forums for awhile now and I've noticed that pretty much every thread about a big fish talks about releasing them. I understand throwing them back to breed again but are there others why people do so? I have to admit, my first instinct would be to keep it for food. (I'm new-ish to fishing - not trying to stir anything up here.)
  8. Haha, thanks for the tip, we'll give that a try next time!
  9. My fiancee and I went out on Island Lake to do some bassing. Didn't do great, but got my first bass from that lake. Here is Mr. Grumpy: Another shot: A pike: There were two other pike, too. The first one never made it into the boat (it got loose as we were fiddling with the net). The other one was a surprise to me. I thought I'd got snagged on some weeds and was very very slowly getting my line back in. A huge clump of weeds surfaced when my fiancee noticed another line surfacing as well. At the end of it were some weeds and a small pike! He got stuck on a very large hook. With some fuss we managed to get him loose and with a bit of help swam off OK. The was my third time at Island Lake and other than losing a lure every time it's a pretty decent place for someone who doesn't own their own boat!
