Thanks all! Great idea about the tri-pod, going to pick one up. Also good advice about taking the time to enjoy the moments and not rushing. Bringing his favourite board games to play.
This kid is hardcore though. Many times I have said lets call it a day...freezing cold, tired...and he has said "please dad..lets get one more"
To all the fathers out there. I have 3 boys... My oldest is 7 today. Next Thursday I am taking him on a fly- in trip...just him and I...only cabin on the lake. His first real fishing trip and first time on a plane. My boys live with their mom, so I dont see them everyday. I am sure we will remember this trip forever. Flying with Buck and Bingwood lodge and staying at their White Owl Lake outpost. Mike Borger did a piece on this place last year and helped connect me with the outfitter.
I have dreamt about this moment since he was born. He is a dad's boy and loves fishing as much as I do. Will post a full report when we come back!
Spent the last week on the French (Totem Point Lodge...:AWESOME place). Fishing was solid at the beginning of the week....boated over 30 walleye and then it shut down mid-week. Got a pb 27" eye though...that thing was huge to me.
Great week...even greater scenery. Love that area.
These guys know what they are doing...and know it is wrong. Confrontation is always risky...but letting someone know they are being watched is likely a good deterant
I have never been into reading, but I would like to find that type of book you cant put down. Any recommendations on a fishing/adventure book that would fit the bill?
Thanks in advance.
So I dont hijack the other thread....
Heading on a fly-in at the end of July and would like to bring my sonar to help learn the lake. Have a Humminbird 500 series (dont exactly remember model right now) black and white unit.
Really want something inexpensive as this will likely be the only use for it and need it to be chargeable. Not planning on running it all day...just to find structure to fish.
Thanks in advance!
Whoops...meant to say I 100% agree with that post. On my 5th boat....have had 12ft with a 6hp to an 18.5ft with a 140hp. Best boat I ever owned was a 16ft Alumacraft Backtroller (nowadays classic 165) with a 40hp. Kick myself for selling it and if I find another one...I am buying it!
Took my 6 year old up to Bewdley for 2 nights. Great time! Fishing on Saturday was tough, just some oos bass and panfish. Sunday the eyes were on fire! Ended up with 12....biggest being 24". Pretty good considering that was 4 hours of targeting them. Gotta love kids...we are hammering walleye and he says..."dad...I wanna fish off the dock". This trip was about him...so off we went and he had an absolute blast catching sunfish and rock bass one after the other.
If anyone is looking for a cheap clean place to stay....I was at Bewdley Cottage Resort. Cottages aren't waterfront and no fire pits, but clean and nice. I'd go back.
