  1. Thanks for the recommendations. Booked with Goy...cant wait. I am used to catching Perch on a drop-shot with minnow on Lake Erie....same idea on Simcoe?
  2. Hi there, I am looking to take my 6 year old ice fishing and am looking for some recommendations. I normally hit North Bay for a couple days, but budget isn't allowing that this year. $$$ is a factor for me, but I also want to make sure that he gets some fish. Can you recommend an outfitter? Best time of year to go? Thanks in advance.
  3. Awesome colours on that beast! Congrats
  4. Thanks. I had it in my original post...but must have deleted it....but I have to give a shout out too. There I was with this monster on my line....not knowing what to do...no camera, etc. I flagged down a passing boat. It was a couple of young guys who admitted that they were scared I was OPP busting them for not wearing their life jackets. They took the photos of the fish for me. I gave them my email and they promised to send the pics. I was so frazzled, I didn't even get their names. They could of done nothing, but they followed through and helped me remember this moment. If they happen to read this...thank you!
  5. Hi all...just back from the French River, Wolseley Bay. Fishing was great. Only 1 walleye all week despite lots of trying, but the bass and pike were definitely on. Nothing massive, but lots of them. On my second night there, I got this beauty. Disclaimer: I am not a musky fisherman...in fact this is the first I have gotten. I don't target them...and yes this was a total fluke catch! I tried my best to handle her properly and she swam away beautifully. I was trolling a weed bed with a #3 Mepps Aglia (thanks Big Cliff for the tip ). She hit like a freight train. After about 10 minutes I got her to the boat. I had drifted to shore and got out in a couple feet of water to handle her. A couple quick pics and a tape measure and back she went. She measured 56" .....any guesses on weight?
  6. I know this is post is a lot of information to absorb...but....sit in the boat...play with it. I bought a SmokerCraft ProMag 182 which I just sold (awesome boat btw) but the rod compartment didnt fit spinning rods well (guides to big for the tubes). I never even considered that when I bought it.
  7. I will be on the french as of Friday and want to stay out late and give it a go. Thanks for the replies
  8. So its well documented that at night, many walleye move shallow (like 3ft). Just wondering what is the technique to target them at night. At 3ft they must be in thick weed and such....what is a good presentation?
  9. I am on my 4th boat. I have owned 12-18ft, used and brand spanking new. IMO...used is the way to go. I literally felt like crying the first time my new boat got its first dock rub, slimed, muddy etc. I spent more time cleaning it than fishing with it. Aluminums are tough...if the motor is decent, you can get a great used package that will last forever, retain value better and be a LOT less maintenance. Feel free to PM with any questions.
  10. Thanks for the replies....I can always count on this board to help out. Been through a lot of stress this year, so even if I don't catch much, the scenery will be amazing.
  11. Heading to the French for a week, but thinking about extending the trip to a place called Mountain Cove Lodge on Panache Lake. Rate is very good. Anyone fished it? Don't want to waste my time. Walleye is main target. Any other recommendations for great walleye within 2 hours of the French? If I am already driving that far, another 2 hours for a couple days is nothing. I am going on the cheap, so inexpensive is key. Thanks in advance!
  12. Hi all, hope everyone is enjoying their summer. I am heading up to the French in 2 weeks. Haven't been there in a couple of years and have not fished this particular area of the river. Staying at Totem Point Lodge on Wolseley Bay. This is my only trip this year, so want to make the most of it! I have tried to do some searching on fishing tips and to be honest, the stuff I have found has not been very favourable about the fishing in that area. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Happy to receive locations by PM if preferred There are no minnows available, but will be bringing cranks and worm harnesses for weed edges and jigs and drop shots for deeper water. Thanks in advance!
  13. Lol...sorry...guess the original pic post didnt work
  14. My 6 year old son caught this pig of a perch on Erie yesterday....handled it like a champ....I am a proud pops!
  15. What documentation do you need to provide when selling a boat. Trailer registration for sure...anything else? How does the new owner get the pleasure craft license switched to them? Thanks in advance
  16. 40 feet is nothing. On Erie in early spring and late summer I am fishing them in 55-65ft. Right now they are shallow (about a month late due to water temps)
  17. Was out of Maitland Saturday..on fire!!!! 25 feet
  18. Thanks for the suggestion...never thought of there. Any post I have ever read has always seemed to talk about lack of fishing success...but maybe I have missed some...will check it out.
  19. Hi there, want to get away for a week. I have a boat that I normally fish on Lake Erie, but I miss the scenery of the French River and area. I am looking for cheap (i.e. inexpensive as possible) accommodations. I don't need frills as I will be fishing most of the time. A bed is good. I don't have camping gear (although could probably borrow some) so a cabin is ideal. Walleye would be the target and I would really appreciate any recommendations. Up to 5 hours from T.O. is good. Thanks in advance.
  20. Heading out with my son tomorrow out of Mohawk Marina. Reports seem to indicate they are not shallow yet. Can anyone give me an update? Thought they would have been in the 25ft range by now. Thanks in advance
  21. Trying to stay off the main lake if at all possible. What is the presentation for walleye in the area? Trolling cranks?
