  1. Hi all, I am hoping that you can offer me some tips. I have a 12 ft. aluminum and have never used an outboard on it because the lake I fish is electric only. My wife's uncle has given me a 1956 (I think that is the year) Viking 6hp. It is in very good shape and is very clean, but it has sat stored and unused for almost 20 years. Before he gave it to me, he pulled it out and it started right up with a shot of fluid in the carburator though so that was exciting. Sooo...long story short, my question is, other than changing the lower unit oil and spark plug, is there anything I should do to make it run better/safer before I use it on open water for the first time. I must admit that I'm a little nervous of it because it is so old. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  2. I am a Human Resources Manager and I would caution you about telling the truth. Being honest about poor performance could open you up to a lot of liability. The safest bet is to tell the potential employer that you will confirm dates of employment and confirm whether or not the employee is eligible for rehire. Obviously, you would say that this employee is not eligible for rehire and that would be a red flag for the potential employer. I would not elaborate on why the employee is ineligible for rehire. Unfortunately, you may sound like a broken record. Hope this helps.
  3. Does Rapala make just one model? If not, which model would you recommend? Thanks for the input.
  4. Hi all, I am in need of a new filet knife. I am looking for something relatively inexpensive as I am primarlily C&R and will only filet a fish a couple of times a year. Any suggestions on what is good? Thanks.
  5. Hi all, I found myself outside this morning staring at my boat and wishing it was July. It got me thinking about bass fishing and I have a few questions. I have always been on of those guys who uses 2-3 baits and nothing else. The lake I fish is a resevoir, with very little structure. When I fish it, I consistently throw yum dingers and tubes rigged weightless at the few logs and stumps that are in the lake, and although I catch some decent fish, I know I could catch way more. The lake has some huge weed flats that run from shore out to about 6-7 feet of water (depending on how late it is in the season). I know that there must be tons of fish burried in those weeds, but I have always been reluctant to go after them, simply because I am not confident. So....to make a long story short. I am looking for suggestions to target the weeds. I do have some jigs and trailers, but to be honest, I really don't know how to fish them. Do you target just the weed edge, or should I be chucking them in the middle of weed flat and working my way out to the edge? How slow/fast? Any suggestions on what I can try differently would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  6. Hi there, I read on another post that it was recommended to use glowing jig heads while ice fishing for eyes. Maybe a dumb question, but how do they glow? Do you need to charge them with a light before they go down the hole? If so, how long do they remain "charged"? Thanks.
  7. Hi there, stayed with South Shore Camping and Ice Condos for 3 full days of fishing from January 5-8. Fishing was slow, but the experience was worth it. I would have liked to catch some more eyes, and judging by the reports, the callander bay area was producing lots of eyes....oh well. All in all caught 1 pike 21 inches, 2 walleye 15 1/2 and 17 inches and close to 60 perch with tons of jumbos. Anyone looking for an outfiiter, I would definately recommend South Shore. Their service is impressive.
  8. I could always get a trailer with brakes, only a couple hundred more. I just need to kind of baby this vehicle as it it also our family vehicle.
  9. I saw the post on Tranny coolers and have a similar question, but thought I would start a new post. I have an 04 Ford Freestar van that is rated to pull 2,000 lbs (as per owners manual). I have a small business that is growing and I need to get an enclosed trailer to haul equipment, but can't afford to buy a truck at this point. Is it possible to make the van capable of pulling say 3,000 to 3,500 lbs? The trailer weight alone is 1,400 lbs, so I am figuring on up to 1,600 to 2,100 pounds of gear. Thanks in advance for the feedback.
  10. How do I know if it will take a 10A charge? Thanks.
  11. Hi all, I need some help with something I don't understand with my battery charger for deep cycles. It has a 10A or 2A switch to charge them. I don't know which one to use. Thanks in advance for the help.
  12. Thanks for the info. I fish in an ice bungalow, so it won't be as cold as outside.
  13. Can you use a regular reel on an ice fishing rod, or do you need to use a smaller ice fishing reel? Thanks.
  14. Thanks for showing me where that post was...lots of info, although I am not sure I know what I want. I fish bass and that is about it. I tend to throw senkos, tubes, jigs, topwater and jerk baits. If I am reading the post right, it sounds to me like my spinning reels would be fine. I've never had a problem getting fish out of the slop.
  15. I know I don't post much, but had surgery last week and am hung up for 6 weeks. I know I'll get the answers I'm looking for on this board, so here goes. I have always used spinning reels with no problem, but everyone keeps telling me that I should buy a baitcaster. Can someone explain the pros of owning a baitcaster? Thanks.
  16. Hello, I have some questions for the deer hunters out there. I have always wanted to get into deer hunting and have finally decided to not wait any longer. I know nothing...I mean nothing. I don't have my hunter training or even a gun yet, but I will get there. The biggest problem I have is that I don't know anyone who hunts deer who can show me the ropes (hunting, meat prep, etc., etc.). Can you offer some suggestions on what I can do to educate myself to get into this sport and be successful at it? If it helps, I live near Hamilton. Thanks for your input.
  17. Hello, Guelph lake is my home lake and I have fished it for a few years now. This time of year, the water will be fairly low. The pike will be deep and spinner baits (perch imitation or white) are good. With the water being low, you will be able to easily see a lot of the logs and brush piles. I guarantee that if you focus on these with a tube bait (green or brown) that you will nail some really nice largemouth and smallmouth. Use as little weight as possible on the tube (I use just a tube hook and small piece of splitshot at the top) so that the bait falls slowly. You will either see your line move as they hit it, or when you pick up the slack there will be dead weight. Use heavier line as they bury themselves in the wood. You will probably be launching from the Conservation boat launch. I am not as familiar with that area, but if you head south from the boat launch, then east down the lake, you will see a very large channel that runs north. You can't miss the channel because on the right point there is a sailing club. Focus fishing on the left side of the channel and you will see the logs and brush that I am talking about. Good luck!
  18. Thanks for all of the advice and comments! I really appreciate it. I found Blue Water glasses at a local tackle shop and picked up a pair....they look like they'll be awesome.
  19. Hi everyone, it has been a long time since I have been on the site (new baby, etc, etc.) but I was wondering if you could share your advice/opinions on polarized glasses. I would like to invest in a good pair this year to help me see more underwater structure when bass fishing. I am looking for something below $100.00. The only brand name I know is Solar Bat, but have heard mixed reviews about them. I also am not sure where to buy polqarized glasses. I live near Hamilton. Please post your thoughts, price, brand, etc. Thanks in advance for your help!
  20. Wow, that boat is awesome! Good idea on leaving the benches in. I did think of that, but was afraid of stability. My boat is not a deep v and I am afraid that making the platform higher (i.e. on top of the bench seats) and then adding a pedestal seat or standing on top of the platform would make the boat too tippy. I am a big guy, so any movement by me is big movement. Any thoughts? Keram, is your boat a 16ft? It looks pretty deep also. Again, nice work.
  21. Hi all, I know you don't like newbies firing out questions before introducing themselves, so here goes. I am a long time lurker and was registered under this name on the old board. It's been a while since I have visited and have just re-registered. I live near Hamilton and enjoy mainly fishing for bass. I have a question with regard to whether or not this modification is possible for my 12ft. aluminum. My boat has 3 bench seats. I would like to remove the middle bench and put plywood down on the floor to make a flat platform with a pedestal seat attached to it. Being a big guy, I find my boat hard to move around in and would like to make some space. Will I hurt the boat stucturally if I do this? Does anyone see any problems with this? If it helps, my boat is a LOWE Seanymph. Thanks in advance for your help. Sneak
