  1. Thats the right attitude Cliff, happy belated birthday!
  2. Happy birthday, awesome way to spend a day. Give the simcoe smallies a couple more years and that husky jerk just might come in handy
  3. Congrats Cliff, any fish is good fish right? Nice deal on that pack too.
  4. Nice fish Kemper. Who needs ice fishing when you can find great fish like that eh?
  5. Wow, thats a nice slab of a crappie there, congrats.
  6. Yowsa, looks quite a bit different from when I was there in the summer:
  7. Lets see, favourite fish pic of the year wasn't taken by me but by Mikeh using my camera : <a href=" title="Releasing a muskie by Sean Maurik, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2275/2111133701_4683b18c08_b.jpg" width="1024" height="768" alt="Releasing a muskie" /></a> Favourite pic that I took came up on Lac des Milles Lac in NW ontario - loved the smallness of a couple guys fishing the point with the big sky. <a href=" title="Classic NW Ontario fishing by Sean Maurik, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2026/2111115093_8df4aa9572_b.jpg" width="1024" height="768" alt="Classic NW Ontario fishing" /></a>
  8. Was out there the same time Skud with the same story and even less fish - totally died after 10ish for us too, one of those days I guess.
  9. Dang, thats a beauty for sure. Congrats.
  10. Welcome back. Good to see the first thing you do at a new job is head to OFC
  11. That sure is a great introduction to ice fishing on simcoe. Almost as many fish as Cliffs first time out right Cliff . Well done, now the fun part of cleaning all of those begins
  12. Didn't you ask if they have a line class + hole size record category Joey? Too bad it missed the mark on that but an awesome fish all the same and a great story to start the year with.
  13. Nice year you had there, that muskie your brother got sure is a little porker. Thanks for the review - nice to see someone actually wait for the year end for their year end report
  14. Hehe go figure - go bass fishing get perch, go perch fishing get bass. Thats fishing for you
  15. Damn Mark those are some impressive fish. Well done.
  16. Wow quite the crowd out there today. I'd have freaked if I'd seen that ice too Joey. Suppose to hit a party new years eve but maybe a cold day on the ice would be a good hangover cure?
  17. I was like you last year and here's what I started with that seemed to work well (basically what Trapshooter said): 2 rod/reel combos from can.tire with some 6lb mono (was going for walleye in NW ontario) 2 metal rod holders - hard to describe but they simply hold the rod on an angle over the hole, nothing fancy handful of various jigs - your typical summer collection that you probably already have but I also grabbed a few glowing ones minnows (bucket and minnow net) - doubled as a seat And most importantly Warm dry boots and socks long underwear and undershirt leggings (marks wearhouse special) and jacket good toque/mitts My buddy had an auger so I didn't have to get one but obviously you'd need that I had a blast and then over the rest of last years hardwater season I picked up a couple other things (a sled to drag stuff a nicer rod/reel, a little folding seat and a 6" finbore auger) and it served me well for perch fishing on simcoe. This year I've added a foldover shelter and a little heater but you don't need those to start. Let us know how it goes.
  18. Nice stuff Terry, that video was great - looks like there were a fair bit of guys out there which hopefully means the ice is pretty safe (I'm way too much of an ice rookie to push it when its iffy). Didn't get out on the ice during the christmas break in Thunder Bay this week so I'm twitching to get out after reading this.
  19. That's one intense day of exploring and fishing guys. Some nice fish sure makes all the work worth it though I bet. Thanks for the report.
  20. I just get back in town and this is the first post i see and what a great post it is. Makes me want to hop right back in the car and head up to simcoe. Thanks for the great report.
  21. Thats wonderful Lew, merry christmas to you and to everyone else here at OFC. For the first time ever I'm up before my nephews and nieces so I'm not allowed to look until they get over here (to their grandparents) but I'm pretty sure one of these boxes looks like it'll hold a nice trolling reel. Don't you just love Christmas morning!
  22. Wonderful summary Garry. Fishing with kids, fishing with dogs, fishing with friends - what a great way to spend a year.
  23. Some nice downtown fish there - that pike didn't look too big til I looked at the rod, nice fish. Thanks for the report.
