Nice one Terry! Ill be lookiung for her and 4 freinds at the Simcoe open at the end of Oct.LOL
-
Ouch! Scott! it hurts me to look at that! did you guys go thru the drive thru? i've seen people do that, trailers and drive thru's don't go together!, looks like your freind has learned a valuable lesson, luckily no one got hurt, the boat/trailer can be fixed, all you can do is chalk it up to experience.
-
Nice largie Lunker! kudos on the live release, nice to see the biggies swim and make more bass for future anglers to enjoy.
-
Yes Wild, I think it is , good selection, and some hard-to find things too, lots of Musky, bass, steelhead and salmon gear.

I do most of my fishing tackle shopping at smaller places, Fishing World, JB's, angling Outfitters, mainly because I know them, they have become my freinds, I like to support smaller Canadian stores, however I concur with JP on the side of Bass Pro- just the huge high-profile place it is draws people to fishing that would otherwise never go into a tackle store, thats what we need in Canada, before we had a store in Vaughn my wife and I drove to Auburn Michigan, it was a cool experience, as well as a nice getaway for us both, as far as the Vaugn store, I really enjoy going in to just clear my mind and talk to enployees who have become my freinds, my kids love it there also, while I dont buy a lot of tackle anymore, I find they hve really good clothing , marine , shoes etc.. that I buy, I believe that Bps is drawing more first-time anglers into our sport which is good, this will also benefit our smaller stores in the long run.So don't go there thinking that you will save a ton of money, but go for the experience.

Congrats Roger, 38 yrs is a long time to work in any one place-you certainly earned it! guess I'll see you at BPS more often now-we'll have to get a coffee. PS my wife will send the logo out this wknd. Mark

Good job guys! like I said earlier -just a matter of time before I see you guys in a bassboat beside me at 7:AM ! ready to blast off! talk soon Scott.

Yes it does make a bigger hole causing it to fall apart, but a knock-off with little salt is already more durable, I also use a weighted shank wacky hook, at times. You will catch fish on these, it's really about your budget, etc.. when I fun fish or pre-fishing for a tourney I will usually use a knockoff, in tournaments I don;t mind paying more for somthing that gives me confidence or an advantage. I can see where a casual angler taking his kids out wouldn't want to go thru $40. a day in baits.
-
Charles pretty much covered it-you can catch a lot of fish on knock-offs with less salt, when I'm fishing deeper water an original Senko is tough to beat, when $$ is on the line I don't mind spending more for the confidence I will have when throwing a bait.On a side note GBW you can "cheat" and use a weighted shank hook with a knock-off to achieve a faster sink rate.
-
You can't really compare Cranks with soft plastics, next time a bass hits your hard bait, brop your rod and count to 3-I'd be pretty shocked if you still caught that fish, it tastes and feels unnatural to them, I'll explain what salt does to a soft plastic bait, , plastisol is bouyant without salt it will not sink, salt alters the sink rate and overall presentation of the bait-ex. the Senko-2nd fish bites on the bait-it feels soft and life-like salt also gives off a taste like live prey, a fish will hold onto and actually eat a salt impregnated tube! When you see a bag of soft plastic baits with salt sprinkled in, its there to catch you! Once sprinkled on salt hits the water its gone! I go thru a lot of effort and extra expense to impregnate salt into my line of lures for a reason-it works.

Tips on keeping tube jigs alive for more then a few fish?
Mark Kulik replied to BillM's topic in General Discussion
One way to get more life out of a tube is to heat up a paper clip wire and melt a hole where the eyelet will be ,the heat seals around the hole avoiding a tear in the first place , best to pre melt a bunch at home, so you don't waste time on the water.or do what I do simply own a thousand of them. -
I'm with Patrick, salt isn't dipped, it wouldnt last long, I make plastic baits and the salt is mixed into the plastisol-keep throwing it until it rips apart!

Triton TR-20 with a 200 hp. Evinrude HO

Good Job Brian! the toughest part is starting, I know myself, I always do better in tounaments and life in general when I work out, keep it up, and you can stop smoking, looks like youve got the will-power.

Awesome muskie-G.Bay has some giants!
-
Rich -get youself a bicycle 1 hr walk turnes into 10 min ride! little specks! like catching smelt, fun but not like bass and crappie-i'd choose the carp options, i grew up near the Humber river, they at least pull nice!

Do you try to predict if it will be a good day fishing?
Mark Kulik replied to bassfighter's topic in General Discussion
Weather is a factor when fishing-if we were to fish only the nicest days that we are off work, well you wouldn't fish very much, it is easy to quit -put it on the trailer and go for a late breakfast, but this will not make you a better angler, on days the fish are actively biting , just about anone can get them, the key is to tough it out and figuire out the patern, it may simply be to down-size or slow down! fact is , you get a real feeling of accomplishment when you do figuire it out! -
Well EC I can tell you from personal experience that this rig works-not just for smallies, walleye and largemouth also like em, its not always the best deal-but when it is , its really tough to beat!
-
Thats also what i do tie the palomar then pass, the tag end down thru the eye-these hooks do have an amazing hook-up %-this is the hook I use when moneys on the line! I use the 2/0 , one thing about them especially the 1/0 is that they bend-you don't want to horse fish in with them.
-
Charles brought up a good point-by adding a dock to the water you are changing fish location and behaviour-maybe the real answer is to ban docks altogether, like I said before they are not natural to the lake! cottagers can keep their boats on marine railways on THEIR property-problem solved!
-
On a side note regarding courtesy, any anglers who are not profishent with casting accuracy or technique etc... should probably not fish docks, when I see a shiny expensive boat, I wont flip a heavy jig to -even though my accuracy is very good-I wouln't want my boat chipped!, I will throw a Senko or interally weighted tube! when I'm fun fishing I'm less inclined to fish docks. Its really about courtesy and common sense!
-
A public lake with docks is fair game to me I pay my taxes and buy a fishing licence as a tourney angler , you'd be crazy not to fish them-I generally like to fish them early before people come out-I never leave a hook on a rope or stairs and I don't stay for a long peroid-I've had some really nice conversations with cottagers, on a couple of occasions, gave baits, hooks and tips, even had kids come aboard to see the big bass in the well, that being said-A dock is not a natural part of the lake!, many ,especially the million $$$ ones in the Muskokas are total eyesores in my opinion, they are a priveledge! not a right! some cottagers have told people I know to get off their lake! I fish them with lots of courtesy and never when kids or people are swimming.
-
I don't have any one fav. color, I choose my stickbait color based on the water color on the lake Im fishing, A lot of it stems from having confidence with that color, I hven't noticed time of day influence my choice.
-
Thats how it worked for me ccmt I fished bass, then a lot of downrigging for salmon, steelheading the spring winter fall, ocasional bass, pike, musky walleye, I got into touneys by accident , my buddys former partner won 649 -went downhill real fast-I volunteered, that was 8 yrs. ago, and the rest is history, it is a real learning curve I do have to say, but Scotts doing it the way he should-get info and apply it the only real place it counts-on the water!
-
Bob Izumi told me that some of the best steelheaders become successful bass anglers, I think it's about feel and attention to detail, sure takes some time on the lake to figuire out a new specie , so-Scotts hooked, just a matter of time before I see him beside me in his new bass-boat at blast-off!
