  1. The ice isn't going anywhere for a while yet, no worries. I find it funny how we get a mild spell and all of a sudden the ice is going to dissappear. We will make ice from this mild weather, just watch and see. S.
  2. Yeah, silvers will run a bit earlier than sugar maples, but they also stop flowing before sugars. You will notice a big difference in the syrup between the two, thats for sure. S.
  3. I have my best luck on worm harnesses. Slow trolled 1.2 - 1.5mph. I get them on cranks, and jigs too, but for whatever reason in the spring, they want the worms. That said, I have never fished out of picton, so maybe some other way is better. I know hay bay is great that time of year, and the mouth of the napanee river in deseronto is also good. Every year is different though, water temp is a key factor. If you post again before you go, I'm sure you would get some great, up to date, info. S.
  4. Operators in Beaverton were still running bombardiers as of yesterday. I'm sure its pretty sloppy, but there is a good base of ice on this side of the lake. After this weekend it will be solid again. I wouldn't worry too much. S.
  5. I heard it was slow too.
  6. I have a couple pop ups i would trade. One is a huge eskimo, only set up twice. I think its 7ft x 14ft. Its a great hut, i just never use it. The other is a cosco fish inn. I think its 6x6x6'6 tall. Also a great pop up only used a few times. S.
  7. Do you have a machine? I have every other tues/wed off and always go fishing. I take my gf and our sled, and never really know where we going....if you have a machine you are welcome to join us anytime. S.
  8. The flip over style huts are best imo....i have both and the pop up huts barely get used. S.
  9. I have a terrain with the 3.0l V6 thats been a great runner. Id get another one but its just a bit too small for us. Looking for a truck now. 130k on it with no issues at all. S.
  10. I looked at your skis. I think if the puck board was the width of the ladders it would work better. For example, this weekend a buddy got his 16ft enclosed trailer and 1 ton dodge stuck. We unhooked the trailer and slid a 4" wide x 8ft strip of puck board under the trailer jack and turned it around by hand. It slid like butter. The trick is to stay on top, not cut through snow. If your puckboard was as wide as the full width of the ladder i bet you could move it by hand. S.
  11. Thank you. I usually get a new dog right away, but this time I am going to have to wait a while. It was devastating.
  12. This happened to my dog just before christmas. It was the worste day of my life. I have a leash, and I have a proper dog run, but he just bolted on me...and wasn't stopping for anything. I had enough time to run in the house to grab my headlight, and before I walked back out the door to get after him, my phone was ringing. The person on the other end said my dog was in a ditch and couldn't move his back legs. I would have rather heard them tell me he was dead, because what i saw my dog go through was traumatizing. I've had many dogs, and putting them down is always the hardest thing, but this one was horrible. Sometimes things happen that are out of our control. Animals have their own brains, and do what they feel sometimes. The driver also didn't stop. I don't even know if they knew they'd hit him. RIP Coby. He was a great pooch. Only 4yrs old. Male black lab. S.
  13. Nice to meet you Dan. I still think that hut is the cats meow. You had bad conditions the day I saw you out there for towing anything. Wet, sticky snow sucks. A set of skies the width of your ladders would make a big difference. I have access to all sorts of that nylon you have for runners, and I can get it the full width of your ladders....or full 4x8 sheets if you need it. I think it would make a big difference. Crazy about your truck and gear. That REALLY sucks!!! Is the hut still out there? If you need a hand with anything, I plan to be out there this coming saturday, so just let me know if I can help at all. S.
  14. Ice will be fine. Whatever melts in the day will refreeze at night. I bet we actually make ice. S.
  15. Generally, the bigger trees take longer to start flowing, but will produce more sap once they thaw enough to flow. S.
  16. Call radio world, they will explain how to do it too. S.
  17. So sorry to hear this Paul. Sorry for your loss. S.
  18. I dont like spring bobbers myself, but they would certainly help someone to catch more perch. I have a specific rod/reel I use just for perch that has a very soft tip, and some backbone once you get some pressure on it. Everyone has their own "way".
  19. I have to wonder if it was you, and not the spot or the fish. What were you using? What lb line? What size hooks? What kind of jigs? A lot of people thing they are just silly perch, they can't be hard to catch, but i will tell you straight up, big perch are one of the smartest fish there is. If you don't pay attention to the smallest details, you won't catch them. If you spent all day out in one of Tims huts and didn't catch 20 perch, dinks or not, you were certainly doing something wrong. I run nothing but 2lb test mono for pannies. If I'm using minnows, I'm using a #10 or 12 trout hook. If you don't think it matters, come fish beside me and see how it works out for ya. Lets us know what you were doing, and maybe we can help make your next trip much better. S.
  20. I remember that day. The ice crack was hilarious! I'm not in the pic though for some reason....maybe I took it? I haven't fished there since.....Good luck OP S.
  21. There is tons of parking in beaverton. No need to pay, or use Tims trail. There are a couple of well marked trails out to the perch grounds. I will be out there saturday for sure with Lori on sleds. I was kinda hoping I could get out to whitie waters, but its not really looking good. I may go poking around though. Cliff has my contact. If your out there saturday, get in touch and we can compare results. I know you are mobile, so if we are on them I can send a way point to ya. IF you need any info on parking, or anything else, PM me. I'd love to check out your rig! S.
  22. Very cool. I have only ever caught one ling out of simcoe. They always seem to be big. 33" is a tank! Must have been a rush. There have been quite a few whities coming out of his huts as well.
  23. Try Tim Hales. They might be fully booked, but they are catching fish. If not him, I would go with Floyd hales, they are in the same area. S.
  24. Yeah, you only need one number for any number of huts. I have used the same number for like 25yrs on several different huts. Right now I have the number on two huts....but neither are on the ice LOL....go figure! I wouldn't worry about it. As long as there is a number on it you won't have a problem. S.
  25. I'm sure lots don't. That's why I stick to a select few. The only way I ride in a bombardier is if I'm last in, and right at the door. I don't trust those machines packed with 10 or more people. I"d rather take my own sled and portable and skip the cracks like they aren't even there. S.
