  1. Brookies and blackflies for me this weekend. Might get lucky and hook into an inland rainbow/splake/laker while im at it. I'll try not to snag them Sinker
  2. GCD, we used to have the same definition as you guys do. I guess all the intentional snagging that happens in the tribs got that one changed. Sinker
  3. Please....... Now I'm a poacher? Come on.... If I wanted to poach whities, I'd do just that. I use a lure to get them in the yap..... I've released hundreds of whities that were hooked in the face......and I've kept a few too. Big deal. What would you do with this one? Yup, its snagged.....right under the chin. I guess it just happened to swim right over my jig as I lifted it right......or.....maybe it was trying to get eat it, but could't find it in the cloud of mud I'd stirred up down there.....??? Sinker
  4. GOOP.......nuff said Sinker
  5. Most whities you catch, aren't IN the mouth. Usually, they are in the face somewhere, or under the chin......and I call that a legal fish....for whities only. Its pretty hard to snag a fish out of 60+ FOW intentionally.....isn't it? They are obviously trying to get your lure. If they're hooked in the fins, or body.....or anywhere else but around the mouth area, I release them. That's just my opinion on it.....I'd rather keep an accidentally "snagged" fish, than release it, if the chances of survival are slim. I'd say 80% of the whities I catch are just around the mouth, and not in it. The meegs type jigs seem to get them in the yap more so than the williams, but the side hooks on the williams usually get them in the side of the face.....which I call legal. The fish is trying to get your bait.....you just happened to lift at the wrong moment. Sinker
  6. Mine does that too.....normal I think. as long as its not above the bottom of the hull, and its far enough away from the engine's turbulance, you should be good to go. Sinker
  7. we have fish for dinner at least once a week here. Usually, caught fresh that day. I don't freeze much fish. Sinker
  8. I set everything manually, depending on the water I'm fishing. Don't forget about your zoom too......I only use it in deep water though. I down the sensitivity until there is no clutter on the screen, turn up the chart speed, and set the depth range manually once I'm on a spot where I know how deep it will get.....I hate it when the screen is flipping from one depth range to another in the middle of a nice drop. If I'm cruising around, I crank the ping speed, so I can mark bottom at WOT. I have never used the fish ID or fish depth feature. Generally, in the kawartha's for example, I set the depth range to 20ft, sensitivity is around 80%.....or bring it down until its not picking up every little insect in the water, and turn the chart speed to around 75%. There are lots of other things to play with, but they apply to different situations. Sinker
  9. What steve said above, but with a pearl treble 12-18" below it.
  10. Head for the rivers!! Sinker
  11. I bet if you set up a small kids pool, they'd be more than happy to use it Other than that, they'll be fine.....leave them be. Sinker
  12. They'll be bad! Find a site with lots of wind, and you'll be better off. Sinker
  13. They were out this morning in full force!! Bring head nets if you don't like them, or they'll drive you NUTS!! Sinker
  14. Thanks! The meal was enjoyed very much by the whole family. They don't last long around here!! Sinker
  15. Happy Brithday Joey! Sinker
  16. I like 2" grubs, FIN-S minnows/shads, and 2"tubes under a float. Look for shallow bays, in full sun. They are looking for the warmest water around. Shallow bays with a dark bottom seem to produce best for me, as do marinas and docks. Usually, if they are there, you'll catch them. Good luck! Sinker
  17. Congrats on the PB!! Good on ya's for getting her out! She seems like a pretty hard core fisher girl.......she's driven to fish!! Keep her at it!! Sinker
  18. I wouldn't really consider myself as a Catch and Release angler. More like selective harvest. I like fish a certain size for the table.....those are the ones i keep. Anything bigger or smaller goes back. I have a hard time releasing 14-16" eyes.....just can't beat them in the pan Stupid wind kept me off simcoe today Sinker
  19. I had the same problem with mine and it was the ground. All lights worked except the running lights. Sinker
  20. Hey.....I'm pretty sure I talked to you on friday evening out there. You guys were fishing panfish in the channel......I stopped by in my aluminum and asked how you were making out.....was that you?? I think you even launched in my marina on saturday? Nice haul on the big ones.......those are beauties!! Glad to hear the boat performed well for ya......but......what did you expect from a Ranger!!! Maybe I'll see you guys again out there. Sinker
  21. Yup, that knife has seen a few fish I'm running out of blade on it too.... Sinker
  22. Have a good one Wayne. Play safe, have fun, and take lots of pics! Sinker
  23. Glad to hear you got into them Cliff!! And the pleasure was all mine!! It IS nice to see so many year classes of fish. Its been a few years since I've seen so much diversity in size. That's a good thing for sure! We were going to head out for the evening, but the wind was howling, and there were boats going all over, so we just packed her in and headed home. I'll be back up on Monday.....for a quick fish, and then we're pulling the big boat out for its long trip home. GCD, Kawartha eyes aren't known to be big......just tasty. We had a couple that were in the 2-3lb range, but let them all go. I like the 16"ers for the table best. Sinker
  24. Well, it was good, and the fish were yummy Fished in the current and caught fish on everything. Just a couple fish at night, but we were a little challenged by the time midnight rolled around   Morning was on fire......we must have caught easily 20 eyes. We kept a limit of the 14-15" males....they're my favourites, but we saw many different year classes. Nothing over 20" landed. I lost a good fish, just before we left....didn't get to see it though   Back for breaky at 9am. Great night out on my dads cruiser. We headed out after dinner friday, and spent the night on the boat, anchored over a ton of fish Whities tomorrow Sinker
  25. Ouch......play nice Wayne. The guy was nice enough to offer a trip for the auction...... Sinker
