Seem to remember an old Red Green episode where the lodge members were 'zapping' each other by mistake, but perhaps it was with a home made defibrillator made of duct tape, booster cables and a 12 volt car battery.

Supplementary to this topic...I was once advised by a local metal working shop guy to drill small vent holes in the top of aluminum surrounding the transom wood. The purpose was ventilation for the wood. I did not do this figuring Lund knew what they were doing, but have wondered if this was a good idea as the boat got older?

Heading to Ahmic and Cecebe lakes Early June
blue pickeral replied to Raycaster's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for getting me curious....seems to be a good page on their website with tips, maps, etc. http://www.woodlandechoes.on.ca/ahmic.htm Or follow the link 'fishing' under 'activities'. OP has likely already seen it, but found it interesting. -
Think I saw them at Canadian Tire or a 'rebranded' version.

Agree with this 100% however would strongly recommend a Newfoundland trip should take at least 2 weeks on its own. A lot of territory to cover and ferry crossings as well.

Not sure if it will be in season, but if McDonalds is advertising their McLobster sandwich, they are pretty good. Otherwise keep your eyes open for Lobster Rolls. Good place is Ollies on the highway between St. John and St. Andrews. The Maritime (Fisheries?) Museum in Lunenburg should not be missed if you are in the area. Bluenose II docked here as well. You can also buy an authentic dory down at the waterfront.

There's a guy near Magnetawan that sandblasts and paints boat trailers for $350.00. After blasting he uses 3 coats of Tremclad.

I watch Ice Pilots NWT every week, but sometimes chuckle and shake my head. When we lived up there Buffalo was always in hot water about something....once even landing on the highway near Ft. Providence I think it was, as the plane ran out of fuel. Congrats on the prize and that it got to you.

Looking for new pike spots first week June

Sounds like our lake. Medium Red Daredevil, bright sunny day, between 12 noon and 3 pm. Yellow '5 diamonds' works as well. -
Did something similar - cut 24 feet off the roof (12 feet either way from center) of 50 foot construction trailer sitting on concrete piers, added 2nd story small loft. Added 24 foot extension along side to match cut out area of roof. Built the extension on a crawl space basement made of pressure treated foundation 4 feet high. Came down from peak of roof over loft to meet 8 foot high wall of extension for nice cathedral ceiling. Included exterior vents to heat loft from wood stove. Pump and other non-freezable stuff locates in insulated crawl space. Have no problem with heaving or slipping - crawl space footings and concrete piers below frost line. Have also seen people built a concrete block basement under their mobile home/trailer with good results.

This is a good idea, but first thing in the morning my math skills are bad....just as soon let their cash register figure out the tax I owe... ...although I think I'll be asking for a receipt from now on.....

Car Cost Canada will give you prices, but the negotiating is left to you. You might also consider joining the Automobile Protection Association - www.apa.ca They have a new car buying plan where you are guaranteed dealer invoice plus a few percent (2-3)that is pre-negotiated and haggle free. It also includes whatever incentives are current as well as some that are exclusive to APA members. Bought one car using APA directly and on purchase of a truck, used their price quotes to negotiate best deal which included a trade in with a non-APA dealer.

A few alternatives: -rent self - storage space for boat/trailer at some place on your way out of town - to the east Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa - google will show a few places. You could then launch at any number of lakes/rivers in the area picking up your boat as you go. -rent seasonal dock space at places an hour or so out of Toronto, Lake Simcoe, Scugog (access to Trent system)maybe Peterborough/Ottonobi River etc. so that you can skip out of city after work or on weekends. There are many marinas that rent space. -while locating according to job is important, would live where it is easiest to get out of Toronto!

No experience with Hummingbird. I bought the Lowrance HDS 5 last year largely on what I read here on this forum. It has GPS and is expandable for several other Lowrance add ons - 3D scan, networking, satellite radio. It also takes the SD card maps as well as using SD card for software updates. There is a less expensive model that does no have the GPS. For a complete noob, it was a joy to learn. As well, the screen is very easy to read even in bright sunlight for eyes that should be using bifocals. I might have got the HDS 7 for the larger display but over budget. Another vote for Radio World...when I needed extra rig for a second boat, was mailed out and received in 24 hours or so. Good price too.

No direct experience with Bell Turbo Hub, but have some with the USB sticks. Shop around between Rogers, Bell, Telus. Make darn sure that you know how long/ how many megabytes you are allowed in order to return it for full price if it doesn't work. Reception often differs between companies in the same location. Do research into which one your new neighbours are using, or find some way (difficult) to test each at your new place. Try to avoid any contracts at first. A cheap dialup setup works as a good plan B.

Another vote for the Ugly Stick 2 piece 6 footer....and consider a 'spincast' reel(closed face)to get you started. Got the best quality AbuGarcia spincast reel available 10 years ago,($60) loaded 10 lb mono line, and had no trouble with either rod or reel. Presently, added new equipment so this combo is often lent to friends/kids, or ready in the car for a quick cast at a picnic stop. There will be people who laugh at you for this combo....like the guy at the Ottawa River this summer as I headed out....who later got skunked, while I came back with a pail of pickeral.....

Where can I get my Calais oiled and ready for the summer?

Remember seeing on Shimano site some platinum plan you are entitled to upon registration....discount maintenance and 48 hour return time ? etc. Might be worth a call to customer service to find out. -
You would be wise to book early....new mining activity in the area and some of the lodges are currently full. Stayed at Quicks Gowganda Lake camp a few summers ago, cold summer, fishing took some work, but okay. You can get map of lake at Angler's Atlas to check depths and contours. Haven't stayed at Auld Reekie.

Raise fishing license fees for U.S. visitors??
blue pickeral replied to blue pickeral's topic in General Discussion
More tongue in cheek than anything else....and although I can't figure out why Yanks are so resilient against public health care, greatly admire the accomplishments of their country! However, this is a fishing forum....and whenever whenever we get beat up by such things as soft wood lumber duties, extra border charges etc. fishing, hunting and sledding are the only things that our American friends take seriously in terms of retaliatory measures.... .....still peeved at having to pay fishing lodge fees in foreign currency in my own country. -
As it struggles to rein in a massive deficit, U.S. President Barack Obama’s administration is looking to squeeze revenue from every possible source – including Canadians. The President’s proposed 2012 budget, released publicly this week, suggests charging Canadians $5.50 to enter the country by air and sea to help pay for security checks and inspections at the nation’s airports. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/us-budget-proposes-550-fee-for-canadian-travellers/article1910967/ Would like to see a few U.S. operators in Ontario who charge in U.S. dollars taxed as well....

C'mon folks think like producers....there are other qualified 'trackers' out there....get one or two new ones on for a season or two, kiss/makeup/bring back Terry....have trackers trying to outwit each other..... The old format was getting boring...

If the cowling is formed ABS plastic, there is a two part plastic weld by Permatex which contains methacrylate available at Can Tire. Used it to fix a cracked kayak. Layer on glue, stick on fiberglass tape, then 'soak' tape in glue, using a piece of plastic to squeeze glue into tape. A couple of layers gives a nice solid repair when cured.

You might consider expanding your drive time a bit and looking up the Parry Sound to Sudbury corridor...Key River, Pickeral River system, French River. Highway will be expanded to four lanes over subsequent years which will make the drive easier. Tip from one who's been there....make sure a septic system can be approved for any prospective lot before purchasing.

Might be a good idea to put a few 'sterile' non reproducing snakeheads into a lake on which cormorants fly and land? Make for an interesting meeting.

Grinding concrete to flatten floor for laminate installation

Smash the concrete hump with sledge, clean out, re-pour concrete in hole to level?
