  1. A year ago this coming October I made a one of a kind reel seat and butt cap from a Blue Spruce cone. They ended up on a Walleye rod for my SIL. Well I have been tasked with doing it again for Sage Float Rod build. First time...... And round two fresh out of the pressure vessel this morning.....

  2. It's all just a personal choice and everyone has a different opinion. I always preferred the larger reels but would certainly never tell anyone using a low profile that they were wrong. Sorta like the never ending debate on which hand should you crank with. Pick whatever feels best to you and if you borrow one of each from a friend to try them out all the better.

  3. The Calcutta is definitely a step up from the Penn you posted. I'd probably jump on that. Finding a used muskie rod shouldn't be a big deal. My next rod will definitely be 10ft. It makes everything easier.

  4. " Considering a Lexa 400WN paired with an Okuma EVX telescopic rod (8.5) for $350. Not bad for a starting rod/reel combo." My buddy has that combo. If it's in good shape, that's not a bad deal, and it will serve you well with a variety of presentations. If it's the rod rated for 2 to 8 oz and 30 to 65lb line, you don't need anything heavier for the Kawarthas.

  7. Yea I still have quite a few jars still left from a couple of years back. Had two different people tell me it was the best salsa they'd ever had. I told them it wasn't so much the recipe as it was the tomatoes. My own fresh garlic helps too.

  8. If I was fishing the Kawarthas I'd probably pick up something in the 8-9ft range, med heavy at most. You don't need a pool cue for those fish and it's way easier on you casting big baits all day. My fav rod is a 9'6 telescopic MH Legend Tournament. Makes figure 8s a breeze and loads up and helps me bury hooks. Along with all the rods/reels/lures you need to make sure you've got a proper net and release tools (Especially hook cutters), jaw spreader, etc. Handling these fish properly will have the biggest impact on them going back unharmed.

  9. I am glad they closed it, what I witnessed last year were not true fisherman or outdoorsman. It was really sad, mostly people that could care less about nature, fishing laws/rules or the fishery. I am totally against opening any type of special season for First Nations people either in Port Hope or Rice Lake. Everyone should be following the same rules, as we try to protect and improve our fisheries. Rice Lake is a perfect example of how far the walleye population has dropped and as far as I know, MNR is doing nothing about. Or at least have seen no recent studies on why this is happening or nothing happening to change that either.
