  1. Daiwa BG is hard to beat for a good quality saltwater reel that won't break the bank. The 5000 series is a good size with loads of line capacity, yet still not too big or heavy. They're simple, solid reels with very good drags and no issues. You can find them for around $200 - $235 Canadian ... with reasonable care they will last for many, many years.

  2. I surf fish in Florida several times a year. Freshwater reels WILL get destroyed by the salt water, I learned the hard way. The best bang for your buck for salt water gear is Penn. They make solid rods and reels at a very good price. They can be purchased from either Amazon or Walmart. I have various sizes of rods and reels depending on what species I'm fishing. For smaller fish, I use a 7-8' rod with a 2500-3000 reel. For larger species I'll use a 10-11' rod with a 3000-5000 reel. I hope this helps

  3. main diff with saltwater reels is corrosion resistant parts where you need them and being more sealed, so no water gets in the body. You still need to do more cleaning and rinsing after exposure to the salt so the more maintenance the longer it will last. Will freshwater reels work - absolutely. I've taken my 4000's (even 2500 sized) with me to Florida, Mexico, Antigua,...... with no long term problems but I would say everyday use in saltwater should warrant a purchase with saltwater features. Given the timeline I'd say Amazon would be your best bet. I have bought Piscifun and Kast King brands and for the money they are decent reels. Probably looking more for a 7000, 8000 or larger reel then??

  4. You’re most welcome. Roloff is getting on in age now, covered in lumps and bumps(benign), and struggles to get on the bed and couch, might not be long before he passes unfortunately but he’s well looked after and still loves the lake, best life still being lived.

  6. I got out on cooks bay simcoe today? Just enough ice at the ramp to park my UTV on the ice and chip my way out 4 inches was the thickest I found and 2.5 inches was the thinnest ice. I walked to a pressure crack and stopped and fished. Caught a few small perch but scratched the itch I’ve been waiting to get rid of Ok so the photos are upside down lol

  7. Hi All, we finally pulled the trigger and got Starlink internet, WOW, what a difference from our existing, or shalll i say practically non-existent service from Bell. This means i can finally upload videos from home instead of having to sneak into walmart and use theirs. I have a huge backlog of videos to edit and can now finally just plug away at home and upload at my leisure. I started with the first file in my bunch which happened to be from last May at around walleye opener time. A chilled half hour with my puppy and faithful friend Roloff, paradise!

  10. I have a 16 foot v nose enclosed trailer. Pull it almost anywhere, quad with rack and 12 foot jonboat fits very nice with enough gear for 4 guys (really need to stop hauling so much). Unload quad and boat, fish all day and easily sleep comfortably inside at night. I recommend it.

  13. This is a long story as I am sure some you know I am not very good at making them short, LOL. I hope I do not bore to death those who chose to read it. This is a mule deer I had been taking pics of off and on from September to November. The third Saturday of the following January I was to enter a wildlife photo contest that I had won several years in a row. I was not really happy with my pics so at first light, the very day of the contest I headed back out to see if I could get some better ones. I was walking to the area where I figured he would be and there he was and a bunch of does. The other times I had photographed him, I had to go very slow but he would let me get close to him (I did not have a zoom lens just a 2x adapter) He would give me the most evil look, I could see it in his eyes and facial expression so I called him Malsum, the devil deer. Any way he was just about to have his breakfast of poplar leaves and twigs and then he spotted me. stopped browsing and stepped forward and just glared at me with that devilish look. After a few seconds he charged. I had no where to go as I was out in the open so I started taking pictures which was not easy with a 35mm manual focus camera in mere seconds. Every step he took he was purposefully throwing up dirt into the air with his hooves, head down and I am thinking this guy is serious and this is it. It still boggles my mind the things that went through it in such a short time. The main one being well when they find me and develop the film they will know what happened to me. Even though I was in good shape there would be no way of holding him back, it would have taken a half dozen Hulk Hogans to do that. I did not move, I held my ground and just kept shooting, there was nothing else I could do. When he got just a few feet away he stopped, thank god, looked at me, and then to the east as much to say good morning, I am just lookin to see what is over there. We stood there like that for a few seconds and I slowly started backing away, tripped over a rock and fell flat on my back so I was expecting another charge as he would see me in a vulnerable position but he never moved. I turned around watching him over my shoulder. After about half a km I reached the bush and he was still standing there watching me. Went to the photo shop to develop my film. Any way I entered the complete series and won the contest LOL. I went back in the spring to look for his antlers and not a sign of him or the does, they had obviously moved on to a better food source which I never did find. Any way I walked away with a story that few will ever get to tell and the pics to prove it, and the pics suck as I had to take a picture of the picture from the 35mm. Whew, this is a long one. A few more pics of him at the end.
