Was out today again and the trolling motor battery died again after in 3 hours! Damn. I was using it normally.  Just slowly cruising, stop locking a bit, etc. , Something is wrong obviously.  I bought it last year and it cost me over $800.

I tried to charge it at home but the charger just read "off"8

going to see it Radio World will look at it and test it.

Care to share which brand is giving you problems?

I'm just wondering if this was caused by what happened on Saturday where I was operating at max speed. But I did that last year once and I didn't have an issue.

also, what about the charger? Could a bad charger be part of the problem?

i mean...I think theres a possibility that you just encountered a bad battery? The cheapo stuff on amazon is not immune to issues. I have heard of instances where people have drawn their lithiums down too much and they basically got stuck in a "protect mode" and will never turn on again. Some manufacturers are known for having a better Battery management system which will automatically stop the battery from going lower than it should.

Im still asking why you want to troll for musky using a trolling motor. Its very hard on equipment while idling your outboard is about as safe as you can be.

Won't be trolling for them like that again.. I don't troll often.. When i have I have usually used the main motor.

I am hoping this battery isn't pooched.. they aren't cheap.  Are there places that can diagnose it?  Like i said, I am going to call Radio World as they are really good with marine electronics and the like..

Has anyone heard of these things being repaired?

I think you’re typically only protected by a warranty when dealing with batteries. Hence your play that gamble of buying from the likes of an impulse or Dakota to get their 10 year warranty, or you buy off of Amazon for half the price and hope you don’t get fried.

Sounds like the battery is now bad and you are a bit out of luck. I would contact the seller and see what they can do for you. I had another budget brand send me a new battery after some troubleshooting to determine it was wrecked after a year or so.

DC House also makes Ecoworthy. Both are on the more suspect end of budget batteries. BMS's can be a little touch and go on them and let the battery go below 10Volts. If that happens its tough to come back from.

Li-Time, Power Queen, Wattcycle are all batteries that have been reviewed that have good performance.

Check out Will Prowse on Youtube and his tear downs. Good info there on budget batteries

Thanks guys.  I hope it's not fried.  I already contacted DC House.  Crossing my fingers that it's salvageable. I heard Walmart lithiums are ok if looking for a budget friendly battery.

What do you guys use for chargers (not the "on-board" chargers, but the external ones you plug in)?

Thanks

Onboard charger is a Victron 24v charger

Plug in all around charger is a NOCO Genius 10

I run 2 100ah power queens for the trolling motor and 100ah for a house battery on the boat. 0 issues. I also have a 50ah which is the one I killed up north on a fly-in that they replaced.

Currently the basic 100ah battery is $248. Which is a crazy deal.

I smoked my 2 nautilus group 31AGM's after 2.5 years, and not that they are bad, Im just way too harsh on them. Too many fall derbys and pre fishing days where the wind is just howling and Im taking waves over the front of my boat for 8 hours.

Made the switch to a 36v roypow (epoch) this winter and had to purchase a 36 volt charger for it. I started digging into it and if you look at the chargers being offered for 36 volt batteries by the battery manufacturers, I discovered that they were simply re-branding most of the chargers with their own sticker.

I ended up going with this charger for my battery, good ratings and was being sold (rebranded) on some battery manufacturers sites. I have had no issue with it thus far, feels heavy duty, charges very fast and is waterproof.

Been going back and forth with the customer help rep.  I tested the battery with a multimeter and it showed 1 when I tested it.  They said that means the battery is salvageable.  They claim that the BMS kicked in and the battery just needs to be "repaired" by using the "repair mode" on my battery charger. I don't know... I'll try it when i get back from our vacation as we are in the States for the next two weeks.

I came across a video that actually says these batteries can be boosted/jump started. Has anyone heard of this before?

Bought two AoLithium 12v 100a  from a local retailer in Milton. 8 year over the counter warranty directly with the retailer. Batteries have BMS, cold weather protection and Bluetooth so you can monitor SOC right from your phone. $249 CDN each. They've been flawless.

wow! do they sell a 24?  As I am confirgured, I can't get two 12 v where the trolling motor is mounted.. what's the store?

Just checked... they don't appear to carry the specific one you posted above.  They have Dakota and Volthium in 24 V and Ecoflow plus the other two in 12V.

You may want to call them...not everything they have is on their website.

Update:  I should be getting a new battery on Tuesday from the seller.  I had to pay for shipping... $75. Not bad.  They are giving me a 3 year warranty this time.  If I can get 3 years out of it, great.. I'll buy better quality next time.  I will be sure not to run it at high speeds again.
