Woodsman Posted May 4, 2020 Report Posted May 4, 2020 With the generally dry spring we have had in southwestern Ontario were the wild leeks early or later this year?
DRIFTER_016 Posted May 4, 2020 Report Posted May 4, 2020 I took a leak off the deck at the cabin. Does that count? 2
smitty55 Posted May 4, 2020 Report Posted May 4, 2020 I'd say a little behind this year. Mine are up maybe 10" or so. I've just been munching on stems so far, they're so mild when the plant is young. Fiddleheads however seem to be still dormant, I checked today in a sunnier spot and nothing started yet. Here's some pics from a few days back, one right beside the house and the other on a hill behind the house.
Woodsman Posted May 4, 2020 Author Report Posted May 4, 2020 As I'm south of you maybe I should start checking it out.
AKRISONER Posted May 4, 2020 Report Posted May 4, 2020 Wild leak...just confirming this is the same as a ramp right? my good buddy harvested an absolute pile of em yesterday. So jealous, he even offered to drop me some off but I’m not at home right now. pickled ramps are one of the most delicious vegetables I’ve ever eaten...mmmm
KraTToR Posted May 5, 2020 Report Posted May 5, 2020 Heading to the wood lot today to see what I can find. Stay tuned 1

I never heard wild leeks called ramps. But could be the same thing. They are like a green onion bulb with a garlic flavour. Flatter leaves.
