Bearss Posted September 5, 2013 Report Posted September 5, 2013 Hey Guys I recently moved to Oshawa and have a 14' can with a 20hp 4 stroke on the back, Was hoping to get into the Oshawa harbour to chuck some spoons away from the crowds on the boat and am wondering if there is a place to launch that's close? Not even going to think about travelling from whitby or bowmanville launches. Think I could drag it over the beach at Lakeview?
BillM Posted September 5, 2013 Report Posted September 5, 2013 There isn't a launch at the Oshawa marina?
Joeytier Posted September 5, 2013 Report Posted September 5, 2013 (edited) Oshawa marina was closed many years ago due to contaminated soil from past land use. Lots of people put kayaks and canoes in at the simcoe st bridge and you can park close to the beach so if your boat is carryable then you should be fine. Edited September 5, 2013 by Joeytier
Bearss Posted September 5, 2013 Author Report Posted September 5, 2013 I figured that was going to be the only option. Was hoping for a local known "unofficial" launch. If anyone wants to help carry my boat 50m across the beach in exchange for a seat pm me.

Afraz Posted September 5, 2013 Report Posted September 5, 2013 We launched a 16.5 out of whitby with a 25 HP, took us 15-20 mins tops to reach mouth of Oshawa creek.
Joeytier Posted September 5, 2013 Report Posted September 5, 2013 Yeah i used to love the ride from whitby.
Bearss Posted September 7, 2013 Author Report Posted September 7, 2013 I could do that too but it better be dead calm. My ass has eaten the seat before on a couple trips in bad weather lol.
Garnet Posted September 7, 2013 Report Posted September 7, 2013 go south on Cedar St. There used to be a vacant lot. We tried to get a launch ramp there. Not much parking.
FloatnFly Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 this weekend will be super crowded there with ribfest going on
Bearss Posted September 12, 2013 Author Report Posted September 12, 2013 I went to rib fest and checked out that grassy area on the north side of the bridge. That even looks possible to get it in there. I'll have to check out that other spot you mentioned. When you say that it was tried to get a launch at the empty lot what happened and how can I help?
Garnet Posted September 12, 2013 Report Posted September 12, 2013 The lot is owe by the city. There is no parking for any # of boats so council squash it.. For your purposes it might work. I think it's Stone st. Just go south on Cedar until you can only go left or right.
torco Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 If you get a boat out there you should do really well.
Bearss Posted September 13, 2013 Author Report Posted September 13, 2013 Do you know if I can bring the boat into the harbour or not? Also my navionics say its over 20 ft deep in most of the harbour. Can anyonre confirm?
ccmtcanada Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 Last time I was there you could bring the boat into the harbour without any issues. I've launched canoes from there and fished all the way out to the main lake and it's plenty deep enough. The area where you approach the mouth gets shallow quickly....and the area where the old docks were is chained off.
fishnsled Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 The area off of Cedar has been blocked off. There other launches to the east and west of Oshawa if you're not stuck on fishing there specifically. Whitby is just a short ride but you'd want good conditions for getting over and back, Darlington would be the other option. It would be nice if the friggin' governments would get off their 's and fix up the marina and get it functional again instead of all the bloody finger pointing. Bunch of morons with nothing more than their own agenda to get elected and promise that the harbour will be fixed up. 11 years later and still no concrete sign of this being resolved anytime soon. Pathetic! Although they seemed to be all keen to put a ethanol plant in there in a matter of no time. Sorry to the op for the side track but it pisses me off. lol! Welcome to the board.
