Back home its called a "Whipper Snipper" or if you are a true baymen you call it a sickle. Great video Brian, I did that this past fall and Summer. Do it every year. You can take the boy from the Island but never can you get the island from the Boy.

ill ask her ....actually i was just chatting with the owner of the house (left building) and what they call the "shed"(building beside it with the bay windows) in the middle which is actually a studio for her to do her paintings...Terry and her husband just moved to Bonivista so im thinking this is looking from their new place at the neighbors...the pics she has send me makes me think i need to go there to do some jigging for orcas and cod kissin...oh BTW ...the house they just moved from was featured in the Tourism NFLD videos......i thought that was kinda cool...

This is the most recent picture I have of home. This was Christmas eve. Huge storm, took out my dads Stage, and almost his house too. Here is his laneway to the house, his house and stage in the background. Crazy stuff me son!!

The rock wall you see in this pic, saved the house. Its amazing how many people came out to help, on christmas eve. That rock wall went up in a couple hours.

Here's the aftermath of the storm. Merry Christmas, eh? Not a wharf or stage left in the harbour!!

I'm going in august for two weeks. Taking the kids for thier first visit. Now that the old man is back there, I'm missing it more and more all the time. Miss having him up here too, he was my go to net boy :whistling::clapping:

very nice thanks for sharin. My folks are from down there (Mom, Carbonear/Dad St.Georges) I myself havent been there since I was probley 10 as well. Awsome place and would love to revisit, but I'd probley burn my return ticket :tease: I remember catching little cod (Tom cod??), trout in the rivers, some kind of flat fish off the bottom, and I remember some local kid catching a eel that had a pitbull looking head on it. Thats how I remember it anyways, it was damm vichous looking. Whales right outside my grandmas window. Also went to elementry school there for a year and boy what a difference.

That eel with the pitbull face was probably what we call a sea cat. I'm not sure what the real name of them are, but I used to catch them off the wharf too. Big nasty teeth on them too!! Kinda like a cross between a musky and an eel.

I'm happy to hear your taking the rug rats down home this summer Shayne...I know it's been on the to do list for quite some time. Take lots of pictures and be sure to share them on here...Misfish isn't the only one who appreciates seeing them.

;) "Sinker" they called it a conquer (con-ker) eel. Dont know if thats the correct name or spelling. And yup it was right off the big warf in Carbonear.
