Harrison Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 (edited) I have heard some of the Kawarthas are starting to freeze up. With lack of wind later this week who knows, we could be on the ice for Muskie and Bass this year. Neat to target bass through the ice. Not a muskie guy per say, but it would be cool to have a crack at bass. Any ice bass tips? Never done it before. Tough to flip weed edges or skip docks like I am used to! Not much of a live bait guy either. Edited December 8, 2010 by Harrison
Terry Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 I was thinking the same thing...and I am off work for the year as of friday, so I might just have the time to drive around looking for some frozen bays...it would be cool
lew Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 I have heard some of the Kawarthas are starting to freeze up. Clear Lake had ice around the edges yesterday and from where I'm sitting right now it looks like it's frozen all the way across Phil. Amazing what can happen overnight once the temps drop.
MCTFisher9120 Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 Give it a try if you find some safe stuff to fish on. Only started ice fishing last season, never caught a bass or a muskie through the ice only perch, pike, crappie, and a bowfin to boot lol. Good Luck, MTBF
Jer Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 We got both last winter fishing Buckhorn & Chemong. We weren't targetting them of course, we were just using small minnows for perch. I know we're not supposed to post OOS fish pics, but this one was exceptional:
Jer Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 On my way home today, I was surprised to see some kids playing hockey on the cove around the corner.
GBW Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 On my way home today, I was surprised to see some kids playing hockey on the cove around the corner. that's crazy! I would never let my kids out on the ice at this time of year. And yes, a nice fight with a SMB on an ice rod would be fun!
Rizzo Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 I got to get a copy of the regs....brought my boat down to Niagara figuring musky closed Nov 15 in Kawarthas
Keenan Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 There was 3 1/2" at the sandbar on scugog as of yesterday.
Harrison Posted December 9, 2010 Author Report Posted December 9, 2010 Thanks Lew and the others for the heads up on the ice. Going to have a looksee Sunday and see if I can get out. I have a couple areas I think should be holding some smallies. For Muskie, I would assume a dead Bait setup would work for them through the ice as it does for Northerns?
Keenan Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 Did you walk out and drill? I am getting tempted to try for some perch/crappie before walleye opener!!! Ya, I didn't venture too far out because they still have one side of the damn open.
bucktail Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 Another big cold blast coming as well
