boatman Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 I'm building a couple small trailers to tow behind snowmobiles for some friends. I built one last year from some scrap metal at work, but I don't have access to the amount of steel I need for the project and Princess Auto is too expensive. I need about 100 feet of 1" angle iron. I'm also looking for reasonably priced used snowmobile skis if anyone knows where to find some.

NAW Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Hey Boatman, Your asking where to by steel in steel town eh!! I use Metal Supermarkets every now and then. There's one in (or very close to) the hammer. I think it's in Winona. They have all sorts of steel in stock.
boatman Posted January 28, 2010 Author Report Posted January 28, 2010 Hey Boatman, Your asking where to by steel in steel town eh!! That's right. I know where they make it, but not where they sell it. I normally buy steel at Princess Auto because its convenient, but its just too expensive to buy this amount of steel there.
Dara Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 How quick do you need it. I buy from all the warehouses but I'm going away next week and can't arrange for anything that fast. Go to a steel fabricator and ask them. 1x1x1/8 should be around a buck a foot
lookinforwalleye Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 I would try a used shelving dealer they usually have all kinds of angle iron.
boatman Posted January 28, 2010 Author Report Posted January 28, 2010 Looks like Metal Supermarkets is the place for me. About 2/3 the price of Princess Auto and no problem getting small quantities. Thanks everyone

HTHM Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Glanbrook Iron has "used" steel availible at a low cost. If you need my trailer to pick it up swing by and grab it.
