steverowbotham Posted January 14, 2010 Report Posted January 14, 2010 HEy everyone, After a scary, but successful outing last Thursday, I finally had a day off yesterday to get on the laker grounds. I have developped a love for ice fishing lakers, i really look forward to ice season for this reason. I invited a few friends for the trip and we got there around 7am. We found 5-6 inches of black ice in most areas. There was a TON of bait in the area, both herring and smelt and that made the vex difficult to use, but the fish were still around. Between us we landed about 20 fish, mostly on a homemade jig I've been working on, but some on tubes and spoons. Pretty slow overall, but some fish could be coaxed. My buddy Mike landed a couple BEAUTIES!
johnnyb Posted January 14, 2010 Report Posted January 14, 2010 very nice...can't wait to get out there!
dagoat_1 Posted January 14, 2010 Report Posted January 14, 2010 Way to get 'em! Looking to get out tomorow morning, how deep were you finding them?
Leecher Posted January 14, 2010 Report Posted January 14, 2010 Awesome report Steve Some good looking lakers in them pics!!! Thanks for sharing Leechman
douG Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 You got into em for sure, Steve. Those lakers are really nice sized.
Skud Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 The Lakers are really getting chunky with all the forage in Simcoe now. The one I kept yesterday was full of Emerald shiners. I thought it would be full of smelt. Great job hammering them.
richyb Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 Nice fish ! What did you figure the weight on the big one was ? its a very good lookin laker.
