Radnine Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone has ever seen an alternative to the “Bimini top” on a fishing boat. They look a bit like a plumber’s nightmare. I was thinking more of an umbrella arrangement that would plug into one of the seat bases; no poles, no rigging, no strings attached. Has anyone seen anything like this? Jim
irishfield Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 Steal the patio table unbrella and then head for the school machine shop and turn yourself an adapter. At least one OFC'r, that we haven't seen much of lately, that uses a patio umbrella to keep his family out of the sun.
GbayGiant Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 (edited) I've always wanted a clip on or portable type top just to cover a side console area, for fall/rainy/sunny days. I've never seen such a rig that wasn't custom built but I bet it would sell if someone produced a portabe one size fits all sort of thing to cover a side console. Almost like a portable fishing hut that just fits around the console. Edited April 17, 2008 by GbayGiant
2 tone z71 Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 yeah we had custom umbrellas for the equipment operators ,pavers ,shoulder spreaders, etc on the highway they either had clamps or a tube and a pipe welded to the machine that it slid in to,it really helps on those HOT days
jhm Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 I use to have a boat with no top................and that's exactly what I used (2 patio table unbrella's) and they worked great ................1 in the bow of my boat that went in the planner board mast holder and the other the driver just held on to..............wasn't pretty but it sure worked good................Jeff
edmichit Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 i've used (and keep in the boat) a pair of umprella's that came with a clamp and bend able section, that i use to attach to my console. This gives me some shade when re-tying or lunching(mmmmmm lunch!). They quickly remove as well when changing fishing locations. I've also seen some that attach to your fishing seat.....but i always wondered about the casting and setting of the hook..what a nightmare.
davew3 Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 check out this option http://www.plainbiz.com/Biz/52/07-page-83.gif this is what I am looking to buy
glen Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 I think cabelas sells ones that go on the back of your seat. I would like a bimini but it would get in the way when not in use.
Radnine Posted April 17, 2008 Author Report Posted April 17, 2008 Steal the patio table unbrella and then head for the school machine shop and turn yourself an adapter. You read my mind! (granted, it's a quick read)
Radnine Posted April 17, 2008 Author Report Posted April 17, 2008 Some great ideas. I checked out Cabala's and here is what I found. This is my first attempt at posting a link, here goes boat umbrella boat umbrella
edmichit Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 Radnine, those links did not work...sorry
steve barrett Posted April 18, 2008 Report Posted April 18, 2008 I know it may sound dumb. But if one want's to go out in the rain .Could one use a cover from a snow blower when one has a console? It would keep the rain off and with a few mod to the frame I don't see why it couldn't work.Just a thought. Steve
Greencoachdog Posted April 18, 2008 Report Posted April 18, 2008 How in the world do you expect to get a tan sitting under an umbrella??? ... may as well get yourself a nice frilly parasol!
forrest Posted April 18, 2008 Report Posted April 18, 2008 Thought about it for about 10 seconds and here is what I came up with, may even use it myself!: -Buy cheap dome tent with square bottom that is a one step setup. -do you see where I am going with this? -cut the bottom out -mount holders on your boat....for poles and guy ropes. -mount tent on boat and open the doors....instant archway! -for added stability have a plank that slides out of each side to tighten additional guy ropes naahhhhh, that will never work. forget I typed it. It is probably illegal. forrest
