  1. Congratulations. Nice lloking fish. Both are just coloured up beautifully. I would have ben pumped too. My goal this year is to catch a trout on the fly. I'd really like to get a decent sized brown by the end of the year. Not sure why, I just need to do it. Keep'em coming.
  2. STEVENS all the way !! Devistating body checker. Great leader. Jersey sure wishes they had him now. This is kind of like a "Who would you want to go to war with?" I'll take Stevens on my side anyday. Besides he can fish too LOL. Not that I don't think Lidstrom is a great player, just that Stevens is a playoff "god". He completely changes the way the other team plays. I wouldn't want to take a blind pass with that guy floating around. Other great playoff players and alltime great leaders I'd love to have on my team .... Messier, Patrick Roy or Marty Brodeur, Steve Yzerman, Killer (Dougie Gilmour......I know I'll catch flack about putting him here, but I love that guy) and of course the great one.
  3. 1. Mepps #4 silver. Plain undressed. 2. Storm chug bug (green and yellow or blue/silver) 3. spinner bait -white and chartruese 4. Ripplin redfin chrome 5. spoon (sorry I can't decide between a croc, five of diamonds or red devil )
  4. Those really are pretty little jewels aren't they? Sounds like fun guys.
  5. That was a fantastic report. Thanks for taking me on the journey with you.
  6. Hey Cliff. Are her fish always bigger than yours ??? ............................. yeah, they're bigger than mine too. Great as always guys.
  7. WOW, those are monsters !! Nice. I'm also curious what they were caught on. The one I caught was like a little baby compared to those. Awesome.
  8. I have to thank Hammercarp as well . Without his help (and bait) we wouldn't have had these pics. Also thanks to Brad (fatherof3) for wanting to go there in the first place, scooping that puppy out of the water and taking the pics . Man, did we get slimed !! Sure was fun reeling that big guy in on 8lb. test. Nice to meet Hammercarp as well. Icarp, you should have came over and introduced yourself. It's not like we were too busy with the "fast and furious" action. I guess it's quality not quantity that counts, but a little more quantity would be nice.
  9. Sweet. Nice fish. What did you catch them on?
  10. That is a gorgeous canoe. It's way too "purdy" for my trips down the Grand etc. I'd have to save that for special occasions LOL.
  11. Man, looks like you guys had a blast. I was stuck at work until 9:30 which is maybe a mile away. It's our busy season and Friday nights are nuts. I thought about going after, but didn't know if anybody would still be there. Now I'm kicking myself in the ass.
  12. I might head up there next Sunday. It looks like the weather will be nice by then. My parents who live up by Ottawa go to that every year. They used to stay the entire duration, which is almost a month if you prefish. I might go for a vist/fishing lesson. I'm sure they have the most caught tags at that event (over the years) so I can definetely do some learning.
  13. I agree Kemper. It would be nice to see about five times the funds being put into something as important as conservation and enforcement of existing rules. We need more officers and they need to have the resources available to them. This is the greatest resource we have in this country. With a huge "green" revolution happening, what could be more green than saving/maintaining our lakes and rivers? Why isn't this even an election topic? I guess it's not a "sexy" issue. Things like this and aviation (especially commercial jets) having a lifetime exemption on leaded fuel (yes those big birds are allowed to drop lead on us 24/7) drives me nuts. But a gun registry and emission testing almost new vehicles is the way to go ...... yeah right . Sorry, I got off topic there. I know that we can't suddenly increase thier budget five fold, but can't we at least ramp it up so they can have a shot at doing thier jobs properly. It must be one of the most rewarding jobs but so frustrating at the same time.
  14. I'm for domestics all the way but alot of my mechanic customers call them "Exploders" too. If you stick to a V-8 full size you'll spend alot less in the long run. I'm a GM guy but even a Dodge or Ford full size are pretty great trucks or SUV's. Also, most of the full size seem to get about the same or better mileage overall, especially if you're working them. My buddy had a new Dakota and then got a full size. It was more reliable, drove better and get better mileage. Same thing with another friend who had a Ranger. His full size is keeping him much happier and costing him less money, on gas and repairs etc. (not as bid a difference as the Dodge though). The small S-10/S-15 Blazers and Jimmys are so "underbuilt" they're not even worth talking about. I actually drive a Buick Roadmaster station wagon (my idea of an SUV) and it's been a great car. Same basic idea. It has a big frame and a tried and true 350 V-8 with a 700R4 trans and a 8.5 rear. Same drivetrain as a truck. I know they're not everyones bag but it works for me. It tows our trailer well and gets decent mileage (on the highway) with it on or off. If you're set on a smaller SUV I'd buy a Pathfinder or Forerunner. Just being honest.Super reliable vehicles as well, but probably not any better on fuel (on the highway anyways) than a full size North American V-8 . They have to work so much harder just to pull their own weight around, let alone towing anything, while a V-8 is just breezing down the road. I honestly don't know much about the new Envoys etc. but my bet is that if you got the V-8 version of that it would be pretty decent too or a Dakota etc. with the 4.7L. Anyway, enough of my babblling. Hope you find something you like.
  15. I'd like to add some real seagar flourocarbon leader material to that list. If you attach your bait (whatever it is) to say 18" of this, then a swivel, then your main line your success rate will go up for sure. This is especially true in clearer water. My favorite topwater bait is a storm chug bug, but I'd keep that for yourself as they can be a little tricky and dangeous for kids to unhook (or cast for that matter). Although it's already been mentioned grab yourself some Mepps spinners. You never know what will hit that. Also, never underestimate a plain old earthworm. You can catch just about anything that swims on worms. Not fancy, but effective. Good luck and have fun with the kids.
  16. I have tears rolling down my face. That was beautiful man. LOL.
  17. That's one heck of a deal Lunker. Especially with an 18HP. That should fly !! Nice buy.
  18. One of the closer places we keep going back to is the Pinery. If you can get into any sites in the "Dunes" camping area you'll be very fortunate. It books up really fast. Maybe a midweek stay would be available still. After staying at the Dunes, I'd never want to stay anywhere else there. The fishing is decent for panfish, cats and the odd bass in the canal. The swimming and beaches are awesome. My kids love it there almost as much as Sandbanks. If you're kids are swimmers you can't go wrong.
  19. Our family has a 16' Novacraft Prospector ....... made right in London Ontario. It's made from an incredibly durable material called Royalex. We have been down the Grand many times bashing of rocks etc and we literally can't kill this thing. It steers very well and very quickly (no keel) which is great for river running. If you're running only calm water I'd buy something like a tripper (low, full keel etc.), but a 16' Royalex Prospector is a very versatile canoe that is incredibly stable. I have two kids and all four of us (wife too) go out and have never dumped it. Besides you could stand up and cast. What else could you want? Here's a link to their site and a great description of different models/materials and their uses. Check it out http://www.novacraft.com/ .
  20. I agree with everyone else. I honestly can't see these keeping you dry for very long. I know it sucks, but I think you just bought a pair of coveralls Rob They'd be good for a rain suit etc. , but not much good for waders.
  21. That sure is a "purdy" chromer. Down in Brantford we still have to wait a few weeks more. I'm still learning. Can you tell us more about your rig and/or technique?
  22. You guys are turning into fishing legends. I'm telling you ...................... you need your own fishing show. Thanks for posting again. I enjoy every one of them. Your daughter looks like a sweetheart. Hope she has fun on her birthday. Does she know her parents are legends ?? P.S. Love the WFN shots (see the pandimonium has begun LOL).
  23. I'd say a Chevy/GMC V-8 pickup is the best bet. I think they're a great all around truck. IMHO any 5 or 6 cylinder light duty engine isn't great for what you want it for because they just have to work too hard. We have an automotive high performance parts (muscle car) retail shop that's been going for the last 35 years and we've always relied on our Chevy/GMC trucks. Myself I drive a Buick Roadmaster wagon with a 350/700r4 in it. Works great for towing and is the closest thing to being a truck without being one.
  24. Great video. Now about Gord Deval. His book Fishing for Brookies, Browns and Bows : The Old Guy's Complete Guide to Catching Trout was great. Anyone interested in this thread should read this book.
