  1. Grateful Fisher, clearly we have something in common .... gotta luv the wall of sound! Anyways, lots of advice for ice fishing. Give me a PM on QF.net. I fish open water all fall, winter, and spring long....not interesting in fishing on the ice. Lots of good open water fishing around here in the winter....but ya gotta bundle up!
  2. Read through this thread. Lots of opinions with very few folks who have used them. I, like Bdox, have used mine. I was fortunate enough to be the first person to 'buy' a NRX in Ontario. Further, I was fortunate enough to fish with Bdox Sunday morning. I was using my NRX 7'5" Medium Heavy while Brian was using his NRX 7'1" Medium Heavy. I'll be honest, my best rods has been GL3's or St Criox Legend Elite's. So yes, good, but not top of the line. (never even held a GLX) The NRX is SO MUCH BETTER than the two above mentioned rods. I paired it with a Curado E7 and even though it's a flippin stick (for up to 3/4 ounce baits), its the lightest rod I own. Not to mention - BY FAR - the most sensitive rod I own. Problem now is, what do I do with the 7 or 8 other bass rods I own? cause each time i put the NRX down, and picked up another (whether it be Crucial, Loomis, St Criox), they felt heavier and "muddier" than my NRX. Can't replace them all ... but to say they are not worth it ... well, i guess that depends on how much you fish ... by days end i was changing baits on the NRX, rather than switching up rods ... The price is a tough pill to swallow, but like I said to my buddy George, take two of your rod/reel combo's, and sell them. That'll get you to just about the cost of a NEW NRX. Also, their "wild card" warranty is an interesting way of doing warranties. I wish they offered it on other rods, as both loomis and st criox are sure NOT known for their warranties...so I guess it's an improvement for the better. I guess to close, I've USED the NRX, and I LOVE IT!
  3. Natural Sports has the BEST (better the FW, better than BPS, better than JB's) G Loomis selection. I bought the G Loomis FROG ROD at the fishing show from them for 65% of retail (by retail i mean what jb's and fw). I dont know if Vince Castellano works there all the time, but he was the rep who i spoke with at their booth at the fishing show. By far the best booth in the show.
  4. holy crap lorne, you may be the first carper to ever give courtesy to the RBG.
  5. CO2 Inflatables in Oakville (Dorval Dr) - Best small yamaha outboard guys around (less than 115hp). They were by far the best price and service when i bought my 60hp four stroke Yammy. (last year). Variable trolling control is what makes the yammy superior. Btw, I live in Hamilton, on the mountain, if that's a hint.
  6. everything is compared to a yammy for a reason. nothing beats a Yamaha. (head to the niagara river in the winter for your lund/yamaha party)
  7. as mentioned above, the fishing show had a discount retailer with 3 colours. hot chub, purpledescent, and some brown one. five dollars flat. i bought 5 of them, but they still had a few more...definitely will be gone by today though, unless the guy 'restocks' himself. i got the scoop. balsa baits cost more to make than plastic injection mould - and they plan to phase out all balsa baits...they have already started some of their J11 and J13 to plastic.
  8. Jen, Steve, and Family. Be strong. I can't make it to the fundraiser, but i'll keep his memory with me at Quinte. However, please accept $100 on my families behalf. We fisherman must stick together. Sonny, my friend, Rest in Peace. Dave, amazing offer. TV show or not, your a Class Act.
  9. "A few hundred Atlantic's are not taking away any other salmonids so why all the fuss? " John, say what? A few hundred?
  10. I have PM'd you. I would love to meet and see your "evidence".
  11. i have a 17'4" Lund Pro Guide w/ a 60hp Yamaha Tiller on the back. i have owned it for almost 10 years now. i have used it for EVERY species that can be caught in ontario (seriously). if you have any questions about it, let me know. i can be reached at steveUNDERSCOREschmelzleATmountaincableDOTnet to answer your current questions. the gunnels cannot run tracks. i use down easters. i run 3 per side. i run an 8 rod spread on lake ontario for salmon as well as on quinte for walleye. there is no trolling motor plug at the front. however, "my" version of the boat has the trolling motor batteries stored at the front, so there is no need for a plug. my arm has never went numb....like roy, it can be used with 1 finger. AND IF your motor has the variable rpm button, you'll have the best trolling motor available..no need for a kicker. hope this helps, Steve
  12. you spent all that money on a new motor, and you didn't go with the Variable Speed Control? Ju Crazy Mon. my yamaha trolls TOO slow...i find myself speeding up when i look down and my speed is 0.9mph - 1.1 mph.
  13. I would not suggest Bay City Marine. I live 4 blocks from there. I could walk my trailer there. I just bought a 2009 Yamaha 50hp Four Stroke Tiller from CO2 Sports in Oakville. Give me a PM if you want all the details as to why "not" to go to the above shop.
  14. Quantums .... can't believe they are still in business. Here's a nice, high quality, $150 reel....broken in half. aweseme!
  15. I see you haven't fished Lake O recently. Geez, lots of comments from someone who has no idea what he's talking about! Ask anyone who fishes Lake Ontario about the Lake Trout stocks...it sounds like you might be surprised.
  16. sounds like another lowrance transducer bites the dust. call josh to confirm, but as was suggested with me, I did, and the only thing josh confirmed is my transducer was dead....he didn't want to comment on how many dead transducers he's had to replace this year. go to fish-hawk.net - there was a recent thread about lowrance transducers...should give ya an idea of what is going on with them. they have a 1 year warranty - after that, its $100 to replace. (i was the one uncle buck was referring to above)
  17. "I don't need a reality check and am CERTAINLY not out of touch with our fisheries. If you think someone with no science background knows better than people with masters and phd's obviously it is not I that is out of touch." wow - it is true. when cronz would tell me about the attitudes of bio's, i always kinda shrugged it off.... but he wasn't lying. thanks for confirming "dr".
  18. Ben, YOU MADE IT! I'm glad I didn't kill ya in the lot before Neil. It was great to finally meet ya. Ben, myself, and his buddy Jeff held down the lot/tailgate party prior to Neil. It was just us three. Glad you made it out...at 11:20pm, i thought Neil was just going to play until the next day. Longest Neil show i've seen out of the 20 plus i've seen. Cats, Bows, and Neil Young.....what more can ya ask for!
  19. so it was "you" guys that were the "its a tank, its a tank" boat. we were just down from you guys.... we heard the first "its a tank" then the silence that followed. then we heard the "its a tank" again...this time with high fives and pictures...we were cheering ya on! just after you netted your "its a tank" fish, i caught a "its a tank" fish... my personal best as well...looks like the cousin to your 20lbs'er. good job.
  20. ummm, lets not hope that. (as we will be the ones paying for it) I love this stuff. Putting a price to Insure it is an amazing process, as are the ongoing inspections as the project progresses. We also did the Absolute Towers in Mississauga - the rotating towers. But as the highrise market dwindles, we are focusing more towards infrastructure work - cause the govn't is throwing so much money at it!
  21. - dont fall. I underwrote the Insurance for that project.
  22. you want a hi resolution pic? its going to take all the fun out of this thread. Of course, the pic that was added on here by Jamie was after a little photoshop fun. Its me in the pic. I've received a number of pm's from folks who saw the original pic.... This has all been in good fun.
  23. bill and grimace, i see you dont do much blue zone fishing.... you cannot release a fish in 75 degree surface water, when they came from 55 degree water, for any amount of time. you can stop your boat, sit, and try as long as you wish....it isn't happening. imagine trying to catch your breath after a long run, in 100 degree heat.
  24. I just got back from a week up at Quinte for last open water, and Joanne mentioned to me that a rather large OFC trophy was left in a cottage there? Anyways, she asked me to let ya'll know she is holding on to it until someone comes and gets it....nothing has happened to it. That is all, Steve
