Natural Resources Canada Wasting Money on Telecommunications

Man, thats half a million they could have spent on stocking Atlantics. -
A gold one obviously....duh. They look the prettiest in the pictures.

dont use it in below zero temperatures.... it'll get wet, then expand, and freeze...normally, not a problem on high end reels...the cardiff is not seeled 100%, so the moisture will freeze....

do as fishmaster and dave (dwc) are suggesting....they both have lots of time on the water fishing the method your looking to do... take a 25yard spool of flouro, and tie the whole thing as a leader. So you'll have 75' of flouro. Very little stretch in leader material flouro. When you attach your inline, you'll at least have the 75' of flouro out, probably more.... upgrade the clip on the board to the OR18, as dave mentioned. it'll stop any braid slip, as well as stop it from slipping out. i'd go with 20 or 30lbs braid....just cause the xtra diameter will help fill the reel.....everyone has their own preference for lead strength....if your fishing spring walleye, i'd go with 10lbs. when i'm fishing fall/winter walleye, i'm using 17lbs or 21lbs. if you do decide to go with mono, go with one of the new no stretch mono's that are on the market.

the $10 dollar seminar ticket includes your admission.

I'd go with a nice, light, setup. 7'10" Shimano Compre Trolling Rod Okuma Magda 20 reel. Spend the little extra on the rod (100 dollars) and save the money on the reel (35 dollars, or less) Hope this helps a bit lew. Steve

HH also helped me big time when going for my first (and current) job. I had spent a few too many years in school, and my interview skills needed a big lift. I was given some great interview tips, and one great "kicker" question to ask. Needless to say, i got the FIRST job i was interviewed for, after his suggestions. HH, THANKS AGAIN MAN!

jen, thank you for posting that. it really hits home. i wish i could have stated it like that. thank you. (could i post that on serge's yakfishcanada.com site, giving you as the posting credit. i think many would enjoy those sentiments)

no worries Cliff. I know when you posted the thread originally, Serge wasn't even a thought or known about.... We all have knee jerk reactions....same thing happened last year off Port Credit. I know you had zero ill intentions....Thanks for your best wishes. We all appreciate it ...

Wish he was on the grand yestday, like this photo above.

As it has been reported, our fishing community lost a valuable member this morning/last night. I'd just like to clear up some confusion, so that his name is not slandered. I was out this morning, helping out the search and rescue team, in my boat. There were three or four other pleasure craft assisting in the search....Our friend was close to many of us. Serge, or Tito Woody as he is known online, was a kayaking instructor who has over 20 years kayaking experience on big water...including the Ocean. The waves pictured in Cliffs thread about waves was the North Shore. As many of you probably know, if the North shore is getting pounded, the South Shore is calm. It was. Serge launched around 2pm in favourable offshore winds. There was no weather warnings about any possible snow squalls. Many on this board, including myself, would feel very comfortable with that forcast. Serge made it 20 km's towards his fishing destination, Jordan Harbour. (This was 20k's down shore, NOT off shore) He was witnessed fishing infront of the Jordan outflow around 3:30 in the afternoon, before snow storm, by shore anglers. He was not spotted after that. His body was found just West of Jordan Harbour. Please, lets all learn from this. But Serge was not some lunatic who intended to put anyone else's safety at risk. I'd like to thank our Search and Rescue teams for their undaunting work last night and this morning. The lake was still rough and rolling this morning. We all got off the water soaking wet, frozen, and devistated. They treated us with respect, and shared in our loss. Not a single rescue officer asked "why" Serge went out, or that they were "upset" for putting their safety at risk....They were great. Myself and the rest of Serge's friends and family owe a huge thanks for the effort the Search and Rescue team made finding Serge. Lets all learn from this. No matter HOW experienced we are, the Great Lakes are a dangerous beast. Respect the water. Keep all safety devices onboard when fishing the Great Lakes in the winter. I'm not talking the necessary safety stuff for boaters, i'm talking fully charged VHF's, GPS's, and CELL PHONES! Talk it easy everyone. Rest in Peace Serge. Your going to be missed! Steve

For those looking for an alternative place to stay this winter, or even next winter, check out: Perfect Vue. I am staying there this December for 11 nights. Their price for 11 nights is almost HALF of what Merlands charges for a WEEK! a little FYI for those who feel there aren't many other choices when it comes to december up there, and Sportsman Motel is closed, and TIp of the bay is closed for good.

Fishmaster, MAKE SURE you disclose that use are using your vehicle for COMMERCIAL purposes. Not for being honest, but in the event you have a loss during your guiding...i'd hate to hear its the Insurance Companies fault your not getting coverage....

there is a big difference in quality. i own two sealines, and both work flawlessly, outside a very touchy drag....(doesn't take much to increase or decrease the drag). the accudepths are one of the most problamatic reels with any serious use....it depends on how much your planning on using the reels.... i wouldn't recommend an accudepth to anyone, even with minor use....but it does cost less. the new accudepths have a new outer frame, but the guts are the same..... hope this helps. Steve

rich is 100% correct. early september they take all the grading gates out, allowing free passage of all fish until mid spring.... the carp move out of princess point with the coming winter, leaving it for resident fish to winter.

there are a few days on this board that will stay in my heart forever. The day you lost your son and the day LEW lost his. I still to this day keep both in my thoughts. Lots has changed around here in the last five years, but the core group hasn't changed, all great folks. Gerritt, please keep you head up, and your chin held high. Thats what your son would have wanted. I bet he'd have been a helluva hockey player!

Here's Theresa demonstrating how to hold a nice channel cat, taken yesterday morning during the Bills Bait Bass Derby. No gloves or the like.

sorry you didn't do well bbr. myself, like most i talked to, had a great time at the event. i pulled up at the launch at 6:20 am, and had to wait for 1 boat to launch. we managed four largies, including one around 3lbs....but it wasn't big enough. we did do well while jiggin, getting a 15lbs carp, 10lbs channel cat, and a 8lbs sheepie....gotta love hamilton bay!!!! but like you said, there aren't any bass in teh bay.
-
well, of course. not nice weather of course though. 35k out of the east, gusting to heavier.... but its one fish, and anyone can win it!

my computer at work has the exact same problem as hooked. only shows the first four threads, and only shows the first two replies on a thread.

Mr Wonderful, you will be staying at a park with MANY fantastic resident fisherman. Number one, try and talk to superdad. he'll be up there i'm sure....he's MORE than willing to help anyone out...he knows that water better than anyone i know....he'll put you onto a pattern for pike.... Further to Superdad, a trailer at the top of the hill, is home to the Braun Family. Jeffrey and Tenita are two of Hay Bay's most accomplished anglers....although they aren't pike fisherman, like superdad, they know that water VERY well.... Bayview is a great park to stay at. The owners are fantastic. Their prices are BY FAR the cheapest in the Quinte area.... If i have a suggestion for you, when you go out of the park, go right, towards the opening of the bay. As you go past grass island, fish all around the depths.....on the shoreline side, it drops into a hole of almost 20' of water.....LOTS of potential for big pike...and its less than 2 minutes from your park. HAVE FUN!

Why do Carp anglers always kneel when holding a large carp?
