remember, that very reputable Lund dealer in Hamilton (who is a good shop) wants you to buy a boat from them...

"pros", lol..... locals lack of skills, even bigger lol. first thing real tournament anglers will tell you is locals have the biggest advantage as they know the water the best. That is the reason you cannot take a local out fishing before a tournament in the largest US bass events (each tournament series have different rules regarding "how" far back before the tournament). Why fish a lake full of anglers fishing a tournament when you can fish hundreds of other beautiful lakes?

that is an awesome shot of your boy!!! not too shabby of a cat either! good stuff man.

Your day on Sunday sounds very interesting!! I would love to hear more about your jigging technique? I'm assuming the fish are still shallow this time of the year (less than 35')? Do you use jigging spoons or tube jigs? That sounds like a VERY cool technique!!

1998 Lund Pro Guide 1700. Came with a 1999 Yamaha 50hp Four Stroke. In 2009 I bought a new Yamaha 50hp Four Stroke.

As the years go by, I find myself moving to a more simplified way of fishing. I have all the toys. Leadcore, Copper, Wire, Divers, etc, etc, etc. But there is something to be said about a spinning rod and reel, clean spoon, off a rigger. This year, like last year, has a smaller crop of Kings. Many skippers around, weighing 8 to 14lbs....and a few reaching 20lbs....a blast on light spinning tackle. I just set into a light easy troll. The bottom was carpeted with aggressive lakers. When I got bored I would drop my rigger down to the bottom and immediately I'd get into a laker. Lakers are ok with the light tackle...but still leave a lot to be desired when it comes to a strong battle. thankfully they generally don't deep hook lures, and I'm able to shake them off the back of the boat....even the bigger girls that approach 20lbs. Every 20 minutes or so, I"d drop my rigger down, and bring up a laker....keeping my other rigger set at 45' down. I don't use down speed or down temp, but I could tell that the cold water was still high, without any temp breaks. I maintained my spread up high, and around 9:30am it paid off. The fish didn't slam the rigger.....but knowing where my rigger was set, I knew it wasn't a laker....figured a coho or bow. Picked up the rod and tightened up the line....then the fish went banana's. I use 15lbs braid (4lbs diameter) on 4000 sized reels...holds approx 700' of line....For the first time in years I was almost spooled. When the fish hits, I immediately throw the boat in neutral. That is key when fishing the super light tackle. Running a small spread without copper, dipsy's, etc, allows me to control a fish much easier. Because I don't drag the fish back to the boat, the fish is still quite green...making for a fun battle, bringing me 360's around my boat, and of course under it. But that is the fun of light tackle...rather than just winching the kings in. As I fight and land the fish with the boat in neutral, It makes for very healthy releases.....taking the time to revive a fish caught on light tackle is VERY IMPORTANT (if your not keeping them of course). However, with 46 degree surface temps it doesn't take to long to get'em going again. Traditional King tackle can easily overpower the average size of King this year...and without much bait in the lake this year, I'm sure these kings are going to stay lean and powerful. I didn't mark a single pod of bait from the Lift Bridge to Bronte...but I didn't see any bait along the entire south shore this spring for that matter. With the smaller fish average it makes for great eaters! Just about every King caught right now is perfect for the smoker or BBQ. I fished for another three hours, catching and releasing 15 or more lakers, and one more small King. If you just looking for rod bend, head out to 120' of water, drop on bottom, and watch your rod tips start to bounce...Laker On!!! :)
-
good stuff. those lakers were everywhere. I fished solo with two spinning rods. one set on bottom in 115' of water, the other down 45' (where the kings were). I took 14 lakers, biggest being 21lbs. Only took two kings, but one was just shy of 19lbs. It was close to spooling me .... I run 15lbs braid on 4000 sized shimano's. I get 650' of line or so....thankfully. Great day on the water !!

Buying new AC (maybe Furnace) - Hamilton area help - Update
Steve replied to Steve's topic in General Discussion
Well, I purchased a York YCJD 24 2.0 TON AC this afternoon. $2,480, installed, incl taxes. 10 Year parts/labour warranty. $1,500 less than my first two quotes, and they were Goodman AC's. Read some reviews on the system...like all reviews, some were good, some were bad. Only time will tell. At least it was in our price range... Thanks for all the help folks. Being installed this Thursday. -
since the old man put LED's (not crappy tire ones...they burnt out within a year....but ones that came from a marina and cost about 1.5x's the cost) on my trailer, I've never unplugged, and never had an issue...this will be the third season. buy quality LED's and you don't have to worry about unplugging them.
-
i live on my powertrim. it is just another tool in the perfect troll (along with a quality sterm mount electric motor). if your looking to use that motor for trolling, make sure it has an option for variable control speed (merc's, yammy's, and I'm sure others have this option). it is great for slight changes in rpm without having to worry about the throttle. don't know if the etec has it....but it should...especially being a 2 stroke (which means more temperamental with speed changes).
-
they weren't lucky. very smart actually. and any one of us would be like them if we could.
-
I know most won't want to hear this (as a sign of complacency), but I too don't even pay attention to gas prices anymore. We can't control it, so why worry about it. We have enough to worry about that IS within our control, why worry about what isn't?

And it will... Jerry Garcia is as popular as he ever was....and he's been gone for 20 years this year. RIP

KW, those prices are taxes in. They also include upcoming my fluce (sp) on my hot water heater to code. I have another company company coming tonight for a quote. Freaking HVAC scams. -
when I heard this morning a large lump in my throat formed. BB was, *and still is*, a Legend. my second concert ever was BB King Blues Fest in Toronto....I was 15 years old. He was a legend then, and still is now. Thanks for your contribution to the world Mr King.

Buying new AC (maybe Furnace) - Hamilton area help - Update

So I've had two companies by the house so far, and will have the "friends" of my best friends family come by last. The first company showed up late, was rather rude, and too pushy on the sale. They were $7,700 for furnace and a/c, 10 year parts and 5 years labour. Then 650 energy return. (so they say, I have to send it in). The second company just left. This company spent a lot longer with me, gave me a much more professional quote, $4K for A/C on its own, GSX16 Goodman. Or, $8,478, less $650, which these guys guarantee, and they send in your information. If you don't receive return in 6 months they will pay you the $650 (and they put that in writing). The furnace is a GMVC86 Goodman. This package is 10 years parts and labour guarantee. Friday the two "dudes" come by. These guys installed full furnaces and AC's at four of my friends places all without issue....and I've heard they are cheaper.....but..... Leaving the "dudes" aside, how does that second quote sound? I expected a bigger savings by doing the furnace at the same time. The second quote is $4K for a/c, but another $4.4K to add furnace...shouldn't that furnace charge be less? Makes me think about just doing the a/c and waiting on the furnace. but then again ..... -
A very small portion of property taxes go into roads. (our municipal tax breakdown is provided yearly..have a look). By far the biggest portion of the pot comes from gas taxes. Bikes are getting their own lanes.....if there is a bike lane going both directions, that bike lane often represents 20% of the overall roadway. No, municipal property taxes are not contributing 20% to the overall pot. If cyclists would follow the rules, it would be more acceptable. Of course, if sail boaters followed the rules, it too would make the water (big pond) a nicer place to be. However, the "non" power versions of "craft" often feel that the same rules don't apply to them (see the comment above from the Toronto biker dude). And yes, something about spandex (i think because it shows you are proud to ride your bike) makes the biker that much difficult to deal with on the road.
-
road cyclists are in the same group as sail boaters. mountain bikers are in the same group as fisherman. you can make your own conclusions based on that.... (and yes, there is NOTHING worse, or more ridiculous, than spandex clad fairies cycling around in downtown TO like they own the roads - the same roads they did not contribute to pay for)

Buying new AC (maybe Furnace) - Hamilton area help - Update

well, I met two fella's that are family of one of my best friends (his stag and doe was this weekend). they are coming over on Monday to give me an assessment. thanks for all the assistance. I'll let you know what I decide to go with. -
they are ok. they don't have a lot of surface area, so they really "kick out" easily, and can cut across other lines..... i believe big jon also makes a set...and these ones "plane"...but they sure dont...not enough surface area..instead they twist and twirl, screwing up your line. i personally believe snap weights work much better when fishing water depths less than 40'.

mid efficiency - not high. don't have a big house. heats it very quickly. I believe it is 1988. I believe my AC unit is original (likely late 60's or early 70's).
