  1. Where is the hood scoop?
  2. The carb rich could have been the issue quite easily there Rob but the hard start and lack of power is what made me think of timing. When the belt (or chain on some) on a 4 stroke is off by even a tooth you get those exact symptoms you described (I learned this lesson many years ago on Dodge 2.2 engines). A camshaft and its moving parts take power to operate, especially as the RPM's increase. So a loose belt can slip. Timing belts should be quite snug, but not too tight as it can be hard on bearings. Good job on fixing her up. Real nice little engines.
  3. Nice fish Fang! That will be delicious done in a smoker! A guy has to eat once in a while!
  4. Yes the Interstate battery line has been OK to me as well Paul. The Optima is the high line Interstate.
  5. Very good pictures Mike. Enjoyed them very much. Well thought out and interesting. Congratulations to your Grandmother too.
  6. Sikaflex is the best stuff Wayne. I have seen some of this material 20 years old and still stuck solid. Its a good idea to warm it up a little before putting it in the caulking gun if it's cool outside.
  7. They are top notch cranking batteries. Unfortunately they will not do well on your electric motor. Batteries are designed differently for deep discharges. Cranking batteries will not take being discharged and recharged too many times.
  8. Very good little outboards. They ran smooth and virtually trouble free. Rewinds were sometimes a pain. The engines were very durable, can't say that I ever had to overhaul one way back when. Maybe a head gasket or two. If you ever want to part with it let me know.
  9. I toss em at the end of an walking dock and watch the osprey and the heron fight over them.
  10. Thank you for the links guys. Interesting seeing before and after pics from the same perspective.
  11. Nice looking van Joey. They do have a nice ride and they handle OK too. I know what you mean about seating position too. Don't care for driving a car anymore either. Well unless it was a late 60's Chevelle SS.
  12. Great report Glen. Laughing out loud at the episodes you witnessed. I worked at a marina one summer about 35 years ago. Lots of antics there too.
  13. This will likely be the last bunch for this season as the days are getting longer and the honeydo list is growing. So I better get them done before the ice goes out. So without further ado....... This is a shot of my dad and uncle on the maiden test voyage of their latest model, the Lake Huron (way back in 1958 or so). One of dads fishing excursions not sure where. Not sure where this is but someone here may recognize it. This may have been my Grandpas car. Another one suitable for framing. This poor fellow didn't have a long life.
  14. Check the timing belt. It may be loose and has slipped a tooth or two. Few other things it could be too but being as old as it is it would be one of the first things to look at. Don't forget to replace the water pump too.
  15. Great post Wayne. Terrific looking fish. Not so sure about getting up that early in the morning but if it produces fish it's worth it (I guess ) Love the sign but where is the tourney one?
  16. Well done Carole! Nice fish. My wife likes to fish too. But only if.......it's calm, no storms coming, it's sunny, the fish are biting, no bugs, ........shall I go on?
  17. Sorry about your friend Rick. I have always been an advocate of being an organ donor. It's a way of helping out others in need. Be a blood donor too if you can. Only a couple more donations of blood for me and it will be the 50th.
  18. Which part of the 765345 hectares of the park will you be visiting? Seriously it's a huge park which most of it will still be pretty much frozen. Best to fish it several weeks from now paddling in a canoe and camping.
  19. Every kid in Canada should have to work a farm for one summer in their teens. Was a real eye opener for me at 14. Great physical training.
  20. Glad you enjoyed them Brian. We replaced those heavy shavers in for something lighter in the mid 1970's.
  21. Well I guess we better all stay inside, make a law for it. Too much risk doing anything nowadays.
  22. Time to add a couple more. Some of the guys doing dishes. I suspect around 1960. Building the huntcamp 1960. The guys out for a ride to the camp around 1985? Heading up the lake. Barber at the hunt camp. Who is next? A brand new Evinrude . In 1955 or so.... Going fishing.
  23. Great to get out with a friend isn't it Glen? Good for you fellers! Always great to get an open water boat report from you. Hopefully it will open up soon here too.
  24. Just add on a nitrous kit or a turbocharger and she'll be good to go.
