  1. Likewise, haven't watched a fishing show for 10 yrs. but mainly because the children like watching other things. Pete Bowman was pretty good on Fishin' Canada, learned quite a bit from his shows on local waters. Nowadays youtube has plenty of video which fills the need, here is some OFNers... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9i5_DGf6DRU...feature=related
  2. I saw one caught off of Pickering many years ago, there in the Niagara R. and St. Lawrence as well, but muskies aren't open water roamers they like structure and reefs of which there is little in mid-lake. Definite needle in the haystack in western L. Ontario, could be a big one out there however!
  3. I remember reading things a few yrs. ago (Crossman and LeBeau) where the largest musky they could find, of the Kawarthas strain, was 42 lbs. Anything around that is probably the maximum weight. Not a bad sized fish!
  4. I remember as a child seeing the Red Fisher show and it was OK but can't really remember any of it now. Then came along Bob Izumi and that was pretty good since he mostly did Ontario locations. But back 15yrs. ago or so i saw a show called "Simply Fishing" where i guy was fishing for muskies on topwaters, or big lakers or pike. Even though it was in locations i never would go to the fish were spectacular! Here is some links i found on youtube, he is still at it... My favorite type of fishing here, very nice stuff!
  5. I thought there was two birds there. One larger one nearer camera and one slightly farther. Maybe ruffed grouse?
  6. Have caught carp in the middle of winter on lures! They are still feeding aggressively. Most people don't like going out and waiting for carp when it is cold.
  7. Thanks for further information Marc Having read the material you provided shows catching a musky near 60 lbs to be a very rare occurrence. The lack of pictures and true measurements provides evidence of this rarity.
  8. Exactly what i was thinking. There must be a few like that somewhere in L. Simcoe. That is a huge muskie!
  9. Very impressive GCD! The explanation of the process makes it all work. You should go by 'GCD- Chef of Lead' Great post!
  10. You sound well versed with the details of this situation and the members here have been quite helpful. Hopefully this will work out for you. If it all goes through you still have not much to worry about as long as you have great trailer park supervisors such as these....
  11. Thanks for posting this Marc, very thoughtful and probably correct. Only way to know surely is for fish to be kept, weighed and analyzed for next WR to be official. Some pics of brutes caught over last 25 yrs. from GB or Ottawa/St. Lawrence flow. O'Briens looks the largest but who knows?
  12. I agree with this opinion, whether renting or buying Mimico is the best area right now. Close to the cities amenities but close enough to the main thoroughfares to get out of town. Close to where you said you were working and some pike fishing spots A couple i know just bought a house in area and they aren't rich either. Good luck with this.
  13. Even though i don't fish these areas, really enjoyed this report and the great pictures! Looks like a productive time was had and some beauty fish were caught.
  14. Congrats on the birth of your child Initially you may not go fishing as much but your life has changed for the better!
  15. Nice muskies! Really shows the difference in appearance between Great Lakes strain and Kawarthas strain. Very nice
  16. Nice to see you around Lew, you always add wisdom and class here.
  17. From this thread it seems that fishing personalities are NOT allowed to fish out of season, But SOMETIMES it has happened.
  18. After reading the above it seems that the MNR does give out special permits for fishing under the guise of 'education' or 'science'. So fishing shows are filmed while fishing out of season sometimes.
  19. Those are nice looking lures, but definitely you will hook more fish with a treble(dressed) at the back end. Looks like a fun hobby!
  20. That is a solid 43.5 inch fish, looks even bigger! Nice going on the PB.
  21. Nice report and great pictures as usual! The picture of the cisco is great and the tip on identifying is helpful. Very nice
  22. Those are some real nice walleye! Those 'greenbacks' surely are more silvery/greenish than the gold/yellow ones seen out east here. Real nice job getting the boat and fishies there. Apparently some big crappie can be found in those waters at the right time. Thanks for sharing this
  23. Having grown up in the 'Shwa i remember as a boy The Rolling Stones played the Civic and that was huge! This looks like the biggest concert since then. Oshawa needs more of these events....

    For Ehg

Took a bit to get around to this but.... Here is a most recent painting(6 months ago) Trying to get better at this painting hobby, going for more outdoor related stuff eventually.
  25. Nicely done all around. You have a big advantage being able to use a boat, trolling slowly and covering water deeper, as it gets cooler. The fish will get bigger right up until March 31st. The pike in Toronto Harbourfront are obviously still doing alright. Very nice
