That's awesome - I am jealous. Whenever my wife and I talk about moving either a real wood burning fireplace/stove or like your place a fire pit is number 2 on my wants list (number 1 is a double garage for all of my gear lol)

For the most part the cars I have owned have done well by me (Ford F150 1999, Ford Ranger 2002, Hyuandai Santa Fe 2010 and a 2019 F150 which i just got in May) I will say that I will never buy a Mazda though - my parents had one and the trani dropped at 110,000 KMS (Protege guessing 1991 ish) and my wife had to the replace the trani on her Mazda 5 with 80,000 KM. Part of what I didnt like was that the Mazda 5 was covered under warranty but Mazda fought for 2 weeks saying you didnt do oil changes, oh you did but we don't recognize that dealer and so forth. Eventually they covered it but was PITA

Working on the website has definitely brought back a lot of good memories - trips, people and really reminded me how much I love being outside. Fishing trips, kayaking w my daughter, camping with the family and even just spending a night at the cottage Recent post is about my love of a good campfire. I am guessing I am not alone in this (especially on an outdoor site) https://www.northernjacks.com/post/campfire-magic Cheers Andrew

I am spending some writing up reports from old trips and re creating some other ones for my site In 2008 5 of us did a boat in trip to Island 10 Lodge on Lady Evelyn Lake It was the start of a 10 year journey and 4 of us are still doing these trips together You can read the report here https://www.northernjacks.com/post/things-that-go-bang-in-the-night Cheers Andrew

I am a big fan of Merino Wool socks - ideally in heavy weight. Best pair I have are Cabelas brand but I dont think they carry the heavy weight anymore.

Thanks guys - I definitely think its easy to get hooked on being constantly connected I think of my youngest daughter - basically all she has ever known is having access to "everything" at her fingertips. its one of the big reasons I am hoping she inherits our love of the outdoors Thanks Mamona - yes - its been a grind but I feel better and my wallet is heavier!

Latest post is up https://www.northernjacks.com/post/disconnecting-outside Its a little different. Recently I have realized how often I check my phone and don't pay enough attention to what I am doing Flip side of that is when I am enjoying any of the things I love to do outdoors like fishing, kayaking, camping or even golfing I never even glance at my phone. I mean on our fly in trips if I use it its as a camera only. Since I generally feel much better after one of these trips and do some of my best thinking it made me think of the health and wellness benefits of just getting out there and disconnecting Cheers Andrew

Nice - I really enjoyed the trip up 11 and loved the East Coast. After a few days in PEI my wife and I were both jumping on the MLS app to look at places lol Sandy Beach is between Fenelon Falls and Rosedale (off of highway 35). Basically its about a 5 minute boat ride from the bridge/river/locks at Rosedale Cheers Andrew

Which type of fishing trip is right for you. Fishing Related
gordy28 replied to gordy28's topic in General Discussion
This made me think of one of our first trips. We were struggling to catch fish and two gents from Ohio came over and really tried to help us out. They were the only Americans in the camp Next trip we were in a different camp where we ate in the lodge with all of the others guests. As its my nature to talk I was telling the story of the nice Americans a lot when my brother finally pulled me aside and said "stop prefacing that story with Americans all the time, look around the 4 of us are the only Canadians here" It was true lol - in my mind American guys fishing in Ontario was a rarity but have come to realize over the year that for a lot of camps a huge percentage of their business is from our friends down south- 19 replies

For sure Simon - most of our trips are done end of August though and we have found minnows hard to come by (and tough to keep alive when we have had them) - hoping we can get them for our 2020 trip - my personal best walleye was on a jig and a minnow

Thanks HH For me I have always found that If I need a crank to run deeper than what I can get a hot n tot to go I shift to the worm harness/bottom bouncer call out But yes - If I allowed myself a 6th either a rapala tail dancer or rapala minnow rap would be there for sure Andrew

I will be the first to admit that I am not a walleye specialist and definitely not an expert Over a bunch of trips i have gotten to a place where I have 5 confidence baits that I would be pretty comfortable as my only lures (caveat would want different colors and backups lol) This is a far cry for our first trips where we brought everything but the kitchen sink Blog is up now at northernjacks.com Cheers Andrew

Which type of fishing trip is right for you. Fishing Related
gordy28 replied to gordy28's topic in General Discussion
I am bad at multiple quotes but: I agree that it's the journey not the destination and the people you are with make a lot of difference Totally check multiple sources, ask for references, spend time on forums like this one. I find sending people messages directly tends to get you a more honest review vs replying in threads 3rd part of the series will be up on www.nothernjacks.com sometime next week and it's all about how my group researches our trips- 19 replies

Chris like you our group likes being left to our own devices. I do see where having others around in the lodge setting is advantageous but overall the feeling of "renting a lake" on a remote fly in is addictive- 19 replies
