I have Lady Evelyn twice via lodges Once at Ellen Island Camp (housekeeping) and once at Island 10 (American plan) Its a huge lake with two distinct basins as mentioned Ellen Island is at the far end of the first basin, Island 10 is closer to the narrows that connects to the second basin. As far as I know there are two other lodges on the Lake - Red Pine and Garden Island In terms of fishing - we really enjoyed it. Both of our trips were over labour day weekend but we did quite well for bass, good for walleye (numbers/size) and really didnt fish a lot of pike but did catch a few incidentally Personally I like the location of Island 10 or Garden Island best as we had more success fishing in the second basin or close to it than we did near Ellen Island Cheers Gordy

Purchasing a used boat from a dealer % rate
gordy28 replied to AKRISONER's topic in General Discussion
If you got through your bank typically they will charge you between $500 and $900 for an appraisal that determines your home value Many banks will have an offer in place whereby if you take $X loan they will waive the appraisal cost To get a sense of rates in your area - use ratehub.ca or other comparison tools I have found that having a sense of the market before going to your own bank is the best way to negotiate - have a sense of whats out there Good luck Gordy -
Thanks for posting. Great report As others have said love this type of reading in the dog days of winter cheers Gordy

That was an awesome video and an incredible fish Watched it with my daughter and the first small fish she was not so impressed. With the last fish she said. Wow Daddy that’s huge. You’ve never caught a trout like that lol Thanks for posting. Gordy

Yes both are water access You launch at the Montreal river and then trailer around a dam to get into Lady E. Ellen Island for sure has a bring your own boat price not sur about Island 10. Pretty sure if you search you will find a few threads here for Lady E. Camping is also an option. Cheers Gordy

I’ve fished Lady Evelyn twice which is near the Temeagami area once with Ellen Island Lodge which is cabin and boat rental and Once w Island 10 which is full service (meals included). Ellen Island is cheaper but is farther away from the primo summer fishing areas IMO. If you are bringing your own boat that has more power that the 20 hps offer its not as much of an issue Garden Island and Redpine Lodge are also on the lake and both have good reputations Good to great walleye fishing, great small mouth fishing and while we didn’t spend a ton of time fishing for them there is a good pike population

Having deja vu as I feel like I have posted this before - so excuse if its a repeat Brother and I were up in Hali to clear out his cottage (just sold) On our way back we were going to fish - ended up parking at Clansmen hotel and renting one of there huts for the afternoon No bites yet - sitting, having a good laugh and a nip of whisky I get what I think is a hit - jump over to grab my rod and my brand new Leatherman falls out of my pocket and down the hole - 100 feet down As I am both yelling and laughing I turn to say something and procede to kick my brand new St Croix ice combo (first time ever used) and it falls into the other hole Basically I dropped or kicked over $200 worth of gear into Boshkung lake in 2 minutes! We didn't even catch a fish - but its a good story I guess Cheers Gordy

Simcoe Perch Ice Fishing - Operator question
gordy28 replied to gordy28's topic in General Discussion
Thanks all greatly appreciated Rick. Coming from Mississauga but maybe picking up folks in Markham so sounds like both spots work i have fished cooks before but never out of Pefferlaw. Cheers Gordy -
Hey there I have searched through old threads and operator sites but not quite getting the answer I am after I am hoping to book a mid week day to take the kids perch fishing So - ideally high action, heated hut but also the ability to fish a half day or at the very least pay for a full day but have the option of heading in earlier if required From what I can tell most operators book full days - but wondering if anyone has used an outfitter the would recommend who offers half days or will pick you up at an agreed upon time which falls out of their normal schedule (re go out at 9 AM and be in by 1:00 PM vs the standard 8 - 4 shift) Thanks! Gordy

So not sure it totally fits your bill but we really enjoyed our trips to Lady Evelyn Lake Walleye, pike and smallmouth in the main lake - and I believe some of the lodges offer portage lake options for trout I have stayed at Island 10 http://www.island10.com/ which is full service and Ellen Island which is housekeeping http://www.ellenislandcamp.com/ Both Red Pine http://www.redpinelodge.com/ and Garden Island http://www.garden-island.com/ also get great reviews Its a huge lake - the one thing about choosing a lodge is which basin you want to be in (most believe Garden Island is in the best area) Also worthwhile talking to the owners about portages ahead of time - some have boat caches and some do not Cheers Gordy

Great post. Some great looking fish. As much as I love the sun more envious of the Hali hideout than your upcoming migration Cheers Gordy

IMO senkos are one of those baits you can't have enough colours - more than any other bait I have noticed one guy catching, other guy fishing due to senko colour If I had to pick favorites: Baby bass (green and white) Ragin Cajun - green pumpkin with red flake Black and blue - called june bug a lot Pink

Anybody bought fishing stuff from wish.com?
gordy28 replied to chris.brock's topic in General Discussion
Chris Never bought from wish directly but I believe in a lot of cases you are buying from aliexpress as wish is really more of the browser than the e cool platform I have bought fishing stuff and camping stuff off Ali w good experiences (line, hooks, swivels, flashlights) and been satisfied Takes forever to get to you but free shipping from China on a $1.99 item I cant complain lol In general I have heard to stay away from the stuff that is branded re Mepps or Shimano as a lot of it is cheap knock offs. But the hooks I bought (no name) and swivels were great and a fraction of the price I would have paid anywhere else Cheers Gordy -
Thanks guys Brian def want a square back especially with my daughter being my main fishing partner as I need to have free hands a lot to help her Was a good season for me. Fished quite a few times local which was new and nice and feel like I made good progress in terms of making my daughter a fishing partner lol Love the fall as well. Especially this fall with lots of sunny days Gordy

Other than the slight chance I get out for steel head I am done fishing until the lakes start to freeze up Did manage to get out twice in September. Spent time with friends at the family cottage - kids had a blast catching rock bass and smallies off the dock I ducked out really early one AM - this is my view down the bay - love being on the water as the sun comes up Was out for about an hour and a half. Caught quite a few little smallies but eventually got into this guy. A favourite technique of mine - size 9 or 11 original rapala floater in gold florescent red/gold. Cast it out and mix it up between a jerk bait and a topwater. Always amazed at the amount of times a bass comes up to smash it on the surface End of September (day of the Fall equinox to be exact) headed out to Balsam for a day of whatever came our way. Man it was hot - water temp was 75 degrees mid day - hotter than we had seen all year. Stumbled onto a weird (to me) patter - key seemed to be finding shoals or shorelines with hard rocky bottoms (needed to be boulders) within a cast of a weed bed. Smallies were just cruising even with the sun as high and hot as it was. At first we tried casting cranks, jerkbaits, spinners and spinner baits - nothing. Switched to a wacky rig worm (Z Man ZinkerZ - a bew fave) Very fun - caught quite a few dinks but hit these two good ones. Biggest one was sighted and cast to - he turned like a snook, charged the lure and fought like a champ. One thing - my bro was fishing the exact same rig, different colour - I had 5 fish to his one. He switched to my colour and immediately had more success. Last outing was the most fun. My daughter has always been interested in fishing but like most kids she needs action and the ability to shift the plan when she wants. She doesn't love fishing out of the boat but really enjoys the dock. A friend introduced me to a local trout pond run by a municipality. I am a terrible trout guy but he showed me some things and eventually I caught a few. Took my daughter once - we saw everyone else catch fish but us! Dad fail - although she had fun and was keen to go back. Went back on the Monday of Thanksgiving - pond was quiet which was nice. Few minutes in my daughter sees a trout roll - says Dad I am going to cast over there (I am still rigging up my rod) - 30 seconds later she yells fish on (I turn to look thinking she is snagged or hooked on a weed) but sure enough fish on. Fish onto the stringer and that set the tone - we caught lots, the deal was even if I hooked a fish I would give her my rod and she could reel it in (she did let me manage the whole process once lol). We had a blast and most importantly she starting peppering me on when we could go again, when we could go somewhere else, could she come on my fishing trips with me. Exactly what I was hoping to hear This winter I will be looking at a canoe - most likely a sportspal - something her and I can use to fish local lakes/ponds together. She is also interested in ice fishing so a trip or two to Simcoe is in the works and maybe a trip to Haliburton to a new family cottage thats stocked with rainbows Cheers and thanks for reading Gordy

At one of the lodges we visited at the mid week fish fry there is a blind taste testing that's a tradition All fish are breaded and battered and fried. You sample 1 to 4 pieces that were supposed to be pike, walleye, bass and whitefish. You eat , guess and rank each piece. My favorites blind ended up being Small mouth (swore it was walleye) pike then walleye and finally whitefish Turned out there was no whitefish and my least favourite was also pike lol. Now I have have bass and walleye grilled and much prefer walleye but think the lesson learned was fried right. They all taste the same He said people are always amazed that a) they choose something other than walleye and they can't really tell the difference Cheers Gordy

Thanks Simon - very helpful I am a fan of the bobber as well - use them all the time with the kids off the dock - but just the old fashioned red and white ones lol Cheers Gordy
-
Great video - that type of action in your back must be incredible Simon I think you are using a slip bobber rig for some of the fish? Interested in why - re why not just a jig and live bait I always have a slip bobber in the box for our fly in trips - but have never used it - mainly because I am not sure of what dictates the need - re weather, fish behaviour etc Cheers Gordy

Brian you sound like me. Quit cigarettes for years and then one weekend out golfing smoked a colt. Years later still a pack a day of Old Ports. Quit date is next Saturday Good luck Simon. Stay strong Gordy
