  1. When we bought our store we went through the same process. We were told that they were not going to set up new locations to sell them but with a little sweet talking we did get our sysem in place to sell them about 4 months later. The big problem is if there is another licence issuer within a certain distance you cant get it. Canadian tire being the most likely issuer. They now provide an entire computer system dedicated to the licence system therefor cant put them everywhere. I feel your pain and hope it works out for you. I too have spent some time in G B&T and really like the store. Have the owner contact me and I will give him my contact at the licencing branch of the MNR. Don't know if it will help, but you never know. Dan Dufferin Outdoor Supply
  2. Thanks for the feedback guys, they look good. Big Jim Mc really likes the stuff, just not too sure about putting a large investment out there if there isnt too much interest.. RED
  3. Just wondering if this is something you would use, I got some samples in and I got to say they look impressive. Especially the steel leader that you can tie, no crimps required...Looking for feedback to see if I will carry the full line. http://www.aquateko.com/ red
  4. Usually at the store, or in the woods, or on the water...in that order. Check us out on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/DufferinOutdoorSupply

  5. Get what you can afford, the Eskimo sled/hut combo is very good for the occasional ice fisher. A flip over clam style is much better but also more costly. However it is very handy( if you have room, might be hard to fit in a Honda civic...LOL) RED
  6. Ok guys, just got of the phone with a CO and this is how it is interpreted....Its a grey area, he determines at the time if the catch is fit for human consumption. #1 resource is the guide to eating sport fish. If the area says none is safe then there is no issue, ie Hamilton Harbor area carp is not an issue. Now if the fish was clean and the water way healthy, say upper Notty. Then he would think about issuing a ticket or a warning. Where we shoot them he stands by his words to kill every last one of them and I quote "I would never eat one out of there". I also asked him about the guys catching salmon, cutting them for eggs and dumping them(by the way I do not agree with that at all) but we wont get into that right now.... RED Oh ya, back to the OP when shooting you have to aim lower/below the fish...how low depends on the angle of the shot...
  7. This is a touchy subject and I will weigh in just a bit cause there is a little misconception about the whole spoiling/fit for human consumption. There are certain times when you are allowed, even encouraged to let certain fish spoil. Invasive species is one of those times. Round gobies being a perfect example, kill em, throw them up on the bank. Nobody will argue with that, right? Are they fit for human consumption...sure you can eat them(they are a bugger to fillet tho) Minnows are to be dumped on the shore after a day of ice fishing not put into the lake... anybody ever eat sardines? Carp, although they have been around for a long time are invasive to our waters and the damage that they do to the rivers is devastating. Yes they can be eaten, and yes they are very good to eat. I will make a point to give them to people that want them after I shoot them, but when nobody asks or wants them I will continue to feed the local skunks, raccoon's and foxes every chance I get. Do a google search on the Asian grass carp, we will be in a world of hurt if they make it here. Lets keep this civil, all hell breaks loose whenever this discussion comes up on other message boards. I have a call into a CO right now, and if I am incorrect I will certainly retract anything that I have said. RED
  8. NAP makes a bow fishing kit for around $60, put it on your bow( low poundage is the best cause you will be shooting alot and holding for longer periods) most shots will be under 30 ft. The rests are very different. It is an absolute hoot. You will have some people frown upon throwing the carcasses up in the bushes, but some of the CO's around here will tell you to kill everyone you can... I carry the kits in my store, I am pretty certain Gerry has them at the Wolfs Den also which is close to you... DAN
  9. The sad part is anything you do will only stop the honest theives. Chain it to the tree- they will cut the tree if they want it. Two options have been booted around and they will work. There are new models that are cell phone transmitters( meaning pics go directly to your phone and e-mail addy) this way you will have a pic of the theives right away. Second, simply put a sign below the camera saying 'your picture has been sent to me already, think before you steal this camera' even if it isn't a cell trail camera they may think twice before swiping it... The C4 is a good idea also.... RED
  10. For a back up rod who can go wrong with an ugly stick. Yes you will lose sensitivity but they are all but indestructible. Get a half decent reel with it and you will have a great backup for under $100. You also wouldnt mind lending this rod to a kid or a friend unlike a $200 St. Croix. I have a 7' ML Triumph in a case under the back seat of my truck always, whole combo and case was about $150, absolutely love that rod... RED
  11. Very nice, and only you can decide weather it is an ethical shot or not. Situation always dictates the shot. Head on at 18yds is a gimmie that i would take almost any day. When he stomped that is where I know he is on alert and would start to be concerned also, but when he continued eating I was saying in my head'SHOOT!" I would much rather take a head on shot than a 'quartering to' shot that he did present to you earlier. Congrats on your first buck, you have nerves of steel my friend to hang out that long and get video of the hunt. A trophy for sure.. RED
  12. PowerPro all the way for me here, I would suggest the new superslick PowerPro, you can hardly tell its a braid, stay with the 50# and see the difference. I had my baitcaster spooled with it last year towards the end of the season and all I can say is wow. RED
  13. Just head west from Island lake towards Fergus and give Belwood a try, walleye in there also. You can try Conostogo too.. RED
  14. If you get this in time, the largest outdoor show in north america is on in Harrisburg PA. This week, Well worth the drive if you can spare the time. You will not take it all in in one day... Not sure how much fishing stuff is there but if you are into hunting...WOW RED
  15. Problem will be if you are a hunter also...card , paper for fishing, paper for small game, paper for deer, paper for bear, paper for moose, migratory tag, pal and regestration papers. Can you say Costanza wallet.... On a side note, my system finally showed up, and it makes my life a whole lot easier, swipe a card, enter some #'s and print it out...Saves about 3hrs of reconciling the licences every month. RED
  16. Absolutely the most essential part of turkey hunting, and fall black bear hunting, I have 3 and cant say enough good things about them. And yes, they work on blackflies... RED
  17. The new storm 'hot n tot' cranks have metal lips but not sure why, most of my musky ones also have metal lips, wonder if it has to do with strength? RED
  18. Kids and wives, the hardest to keep entertained while ice fishing. I am in Orangeville and know the resevoir well but.... the bite is fast and furious then nothing, then fast again.. Long periods of nothing. Perch in Gilford will most likely be non stop action all day especially right now(new ice/ dumb fish) and as for O-vill being cheaper for huts.... last I checked it was $40 per person plus park entrance. Cooks bay huts will run any where from $35-$45pp . Bellwood openes friday but when I was talking to him monday I am pretty sure that he said they werent doing huts this year, could be wrong though... Check out the cooks bay fishing board to get all the operators info. RED
  19. That is awsome, glad to hear they nailed some of the bad apples out there. Happens way to much around here... RED
  20. OK, I need the room in the store, Only have 5 left. XL and XXL. Helly Hansen DeltaI red/black float suits. $299 +tax, first come first serve. Come on in and see us, 312 Broadway, Orangeville, L9W 1L3 (for the GPS users) 519-941-4218 Dan
  21. I know its been done before and people still do it but guys, c'mon, please don't promote putting WD40(petroleum product) on your lures or in the water. If ya want scents use the biodegradable ones that are sold for that purpose. Cod liver oil has worked wonders this summer, we have been putting the pills in our hollow body frogs, never thought of dipping spoons in the oil though, going to give that a try:clapping: RED
  22. DOS

    Island lake

Its a great little fishery, mostly hammer handle pike but if you can find them, the crappie fishing can be exceptional. Mostly very shallow so the preferred method is to tip up or dead stick for the pike and ya got to be quiet. I have watched the pike sit with their nose at my bait for 5 mins before striking but if you tap your foot or someone walks by, they take off like a rocket... Will let ya know when it opens RED
  23. is there ice yet... I am on pins and needles waiting... RED
  24. Well, I just drove past the resevoir in Orangeville and it seems like we made a bit of ice last night. Looks to be frozen across, man am I getting the itch, c'mon -10c weather. Got to make the ice thick now... RED
  25. Batteries seem to last quite a bit, in my hut the fishtv will go a solid 7hrs, outside about 5. No good if there is a current if ya want to watch your lures, dang thing keeps turning, great for keeping the kids entertained fishing for perch... RED
