  1. We have bought 'free range' and antibiotic free chicken from a farmer up the road. Expensive, yes, but no comparison at all with a BlahBlahs chicken.
  2. Wow! Thx. The wonders of Google. I guess I should have checked. So it looks like the last were prob sold around 1997. I'm not sure how long mine was at the bottom of the river. Funny though, there wasn't enough of the hook left to create a snag. Steel tends to rust slowly when submerged compared to when it's exposed to damp air, so I guess it had been there for a while.
  3. I have a couple of those---I should look at that too. I guess it's no big trick but can't be bothered figuring it out when I'm fishing.
  4. I have 1 or 2 of those(Or are they Kwikfish?) and find that hanger thing to be a PITA, esp if using a landing net.
  5. I snagged 1 of those from a river bottom a little while back. Anyone know how old these things are? Just cleaned layers of gunk on it and can now see the girl.
  6. I think it takes 2 days just paddling, Mike. I've float down the Notty here and only covered 5-6 km in a day of fishing(wasn't a really long day, mind you)
  7. Someone suggested that what we were marking was suckers. Aren't suckers mostly in the creeks spawning by now?
  8. I have been wanting to float part of that river for see time now but haven't overcome the hurdle of a car shuttle. What section of the river did you do, or is that a secret? It really looks beautiful along there with the sand banks etc thx
  9. Thx for the comments, guys. I think the temp function on my FF was probably not working but the water was bloody cold. Dipped my hand in and it felt like ice fishing. My guess is that it was about 4-6 deg. We didn't bother with buying minnows as we thought that some of the lures would work. We hope to get back up sometime mid-week to give those fish one more chance!! We might try minnows but I'm sure I'll try some of the tips offered here.
  10. Maybe. But he probably could have gotten a nice new house right next to the 400 coming out of TO for the same price!
  11. Sounds like fun just the same!! When folks say "any luck'? I say "Yes, I'm lucky to be able to fishing today".
  12. There were lots of well defined fish 'arches' about 15 ft down but sometimes just off bottom. we went from 50 ft to 10 ft or so. My guess is that until the surface warms a bit the fish have little incentive to move near the surface. When it does I guess they would move to warmer water near the surface to get more energy until the temps reach the upper limit of their 'comfort zone". Does this theory hold water? (Ever met a fisherman w/o a theory?? )
  13. Given that it was zero at the surface I would assume that it was zero all the way to the bottom.
  14. My buddy and I were at lake Joe near Pt Carling today. We marked lots---and I do mean lots---of fish, presumably lake trout suspended at 10-20 ft deep. We mostly slow trolled lures such as fairly big Little Cleos and deep crankbaits with nary a bite. I think the lures were running deep enough as we both hooked bottom once or twice in maybe 15 ft of water. We also did a very slow drift with sinkers and worms over an area where we were marking fish i.e. ice fishing technique. again---nada. The water temp on my FF showed as zero. What gives??? Does the water need to warm a bit? We had never tried for ice-out lakers before.
  15. We are programmed to receive You can check out any time you want but you can never leave!!
  16. 5 times as lucky as me.................er, um....wait a minute 5 times 0 is still 0!
  17. Thx guys. I'll have to try that stapler remover before I look for another pair. Or maybe find some pink Shimanos !
  18. I'd like to replace the trebles on some of my lures with single Siwash hooks. The pair of pliers I have now don't work too well---I don't know what brand offhand. Can anybody recommend a type well suited for this application? thx
  19. Right on! The author admits that it may never work but they will give it a try. The name's Bombardier after all!
  20. I'm surprised the temps were that high. After all, the ice just went out. I live on the Notty and the temp last week reached 10 or so but that's a river w/o all the mass of lake water to heat up.
  21. There are a lot of 'shoulds' in life! Realistically we know that only a minority will save on their own. Canadians have more per capita debt than ever before. Let's look at the consequences for the future if people don't voluntarily save enough for their retirement------a lot of seniors at the poverty level. So who is going to pay for the social services---welfare or whatever. Obviously the responsibility will fall on the general taxpayer. Isn't it better to prod people into saving their own money to spend later on rather than have to rely on other folks money??
  22. Don't need no steenking fly rod!1 All you need is a long handle net for those saLmonS when they are spawning!
  23. I think you could make that very same argument against CPP. Do you think the CPP is a bad idea as well?
