  1. Well, why didn't you say so in the first place!!! Forget what I just said. ( Don't need 2 bolts on each end, though---setting the X-beams down into the supports will brace it---except for a little bit of slop because of a loos fit)
  2. Lookin' good, D01. I'm planning on building 1 myself. Suggestions for #2---(1)move the supports closer to the rear so the tips of the skis can flex more to ride on the snow. (2)lighten the weight a bit by using smaller X beams. I'm considering using old hockey stick handles for mine. Your load may be bulky but not very heavy, apart from the gas auger.
  3. That's quite a funny flight of fancy!!
  4. Aha---I see Olive, the other reindeer!!!
  5. These mini-rants are good fun until the ice comes! (First world probs, after all). The 1 that stuck in my craw was the sign at the little 'coffee kiosk' at work. "Due to the increase in coffee price the price of beverages will increase by 10 cents starting Mon." As I tea drinker I felt ripped off( I guess it was a long time ago with only a 10 cent increase)
  6. A little girl who was writing a school paper asked her father, "Dad, what is the difference between anger and exasperation?" "It's mostly a matter of degree." The dad replied. " Let me show you what I mean". With that the dad picked up the phone and dialed a number at random. A man answered the phone and the dad says, "Hello, is Homer there?" The man on the other end answered, "I'm sorry, you must have the wrong number. There's nobody here by that name." The father hangs up and immediately hits redial, "Hello, is Homer there?" asks the father. "Now listen up buddy, there's nobody here by that name so quit bothering me!" The dad listens as the man slams the phone down. You see, says the dad, he is starting to get angry. He hits redial and a loud voice comes on the line. "HELLO!" the man yells. "Yes, is Homer there? asks the father calmly. "Are you crazy?" the man screams, " I told you Homer doesn't live here so don't call back again!" then he slams the phone down again. "Did you hear that?" the father asked the little girl, "Now that is what anger sounds like." "Now you're going to hear exasperation." He picked the phone up and hit redial again. "HELLO!" boomed the voice on the other end. "Hello" the dad says politely, "This is Homer, have I had any calls?"
  7. I have had trouble setting up my Mark 5. I suspect many others have had probs setting up the Lowrance FF. Maybe you can post what settings you use----maybe in a new thread? thx
  8. I guess it depends on the type of fish being targeted. I fish for the smaller lakers in Muskoka rather than the bigger(but scarcer) ones in Simcoe. IMO, based on this experience, it doesn't really matter much what kind of rod you use. The drag on the reel, rather than the flexing of the rod, provides most of the resistance to the fish.,
  9. Thx sinker. Sheesh----troutchaser had me sweating there for a minute: I just bought an Elite 4X
  10. You were right! I bought it on-line and picked it up a couple of days ago. The pic shows what was included. I guess it was possible, but not very likely, that the unit was sold w/o a Xducer. For the price listed i would not have been surprised.
  11. Yup, just like Farmers' Almanac said it would!!
  12. You're being far too kind. The Moosey reports and the Borgerman's reports get a full 10. Gimme a 6 and I'll be happy! BTW--thx to the mod(s) for deleting that political sideswipe from another member.
  13. The truth of the matter is that OPG, Hydro 1, and their predecessor, Ontario Hydro, have been yanked about for political purposes by all parties over the years. e.g.(another Liberal one, granted, but Mikey and the boys had a good kick at it too)---a big part of the cost overruns from Darlington was due to Peterson putting the station on hold after much of the major eqpt had been bought. It didn't take long to run up the bills with interest rates we had in the 80's. The TVO article that was posted back there in post 26 was informative, the first post article merely provocative.
  14. The lady in the Gagnon's I went into called it "Toys R Us" for men!
  15. If it wasn't for Farmers' Almanac and Wiarton Willie I'd have no idea what to expect!!
  16. This comment is right on! Rates were kept too low for too long. Sooner or later we have to pay.
  17. I'm not much of a techie re cell phones but I have been told that they work as a GPS even when you are out of cell phone range. With the Navionics app might render a GPS on the FF redundant.
  18. Hard core indeed!!! Last trip?? You could prob sneak out there again this week if you had the time off!
  19. Thx. You are prob right---I had assumed that it did not. I just ordered it---if no Xducer, then I'll just return it.
  20. I was looking at buying a lowrance elite4xchirp at CTC for $139 but it looks like I would need to buy a new Xducer as well(not incl in that price?). I have a Mark 5x pro right now so I don't thing that would work with the elite 5x. I went on the Lowrance website to see if it would give me a definite answer on that but was confused.
  21. I bought a float suit a few days ago with a 60% price reduction. When I was in the store I notice a combo with 2 berkley ice rods and reel cc/w a 50 yd spool of Micro Ice and a 50 yd spool of 'Coldwater' mono. The price marked was around $25, but on-line it was listed at $18. Without going into cognitive overdrive I chose the lower of the 2 prices. The spools of line are listed at $14 and $7.50, totaling up to $21.50. So I'm not getting the rods and reels for cheap or free, they are paying me to take them!! I tried posting a link but now they have none left they are selling them for $50!!!
  22. Just a leisurely aft out for a paddle with my wife dragging a Rapala behind----caught 3 small pike as well. A lot better than 2 hard days fishing with my buddy recently. . My wife is not interested in going back out today, though, for some reason??!
