  1. Sounds like a good retirement plan---snap 'em up at Walmart and sell them on E-bay at $500 a pop!
  2. maybe the lure is pure silver??
  3. 1 reason not to do that and let him go free is the hope that maybe whoever put the pike in there would go skinny dipping there 1 day when the pike are hitting on worms!
  4. Thx for your suggestions, guys. I think pinching down the barbs would help but single hooks would be even easier. As suggested, I would test 1 of each type by casting before doing any more, just to make sure the 'wiggling' performance was not affected. Raf---why did you use siwash? Rapalas have split rings, so hooks with ordinary close eyes could possibly be used. I know my silver fox lures, for example, come with a siwash----there is no split ring.
  5. We are headed up to Nakina where the fishing is great. Lots of walleye and pike. I am considering replacing the rear trebles on my crankbaits such as Big 'O's and Hot 'n Tots with single hooks. The reason for doing this is to make the hammerhandle pike easier to release. I can afford the penalty of possibly losing more walleye with a single than a treble. These lures have split rings, so I don't really need to use Siwash hooks with their open eyes. What sort of hooks---type, brand, size---would you recommend as replacements? The crankbaits are the smaller 2 sizes---maybe 2-3" long. thx
  6. Wow! Not sure why they bothered with PFDs, though----extra padding I guess?
  7. The Borgerman knows all sorts of great places in NW Ont., if you can get his attention. I know folks who have gone to Esnagami Lodge and caught lots. There's lots of info on the net re Esnagami.
  8. Not gonna argue the point. It's a free country.
  9. They get to 'do it' once every 17 years. Slightly less than some married guys!
  10. I have a similar 1 that came with the tent. I leave that at home and take a plastic tarp to use inside. Slightly bigger than the tent floor allows you to tuck up the ends to make a 'bathtub'.(In reverse, since it is used to keep water out. Even if it's not bigger you can tuck up the upslope end.
  11. I quit many years ago. Best decision I ever made!
  12. I'm not sure how much camping you are planning on doing, but if you intend to go frequently I would recommend to spend the extra $ on a 'higher end' tent such as a Eureka.. Some good tents have just mesh for the walls and rely on a good fly for the rain. Lot's of ventilation if that's your main concern. And, BTW, the 'ground' sheet goes on the inside to keep your backs dry, not outside to protect the tent floor from abrasion as is too commonly done.
  13. I always count down my last 3 casts. If I get a hit though, I'll stay around a little while.
  14. Very true about a well designed tent. I have a Eureka Mountain Pass XTC 3 person tent with full fly and no condensation problem. Sometimes I rise really early to go out and take pix--I leave my wife in XTC! .
  15. Good for you,M or S! The scenery out there looks a lot better than inside a hospital, for sure!
  16. or just learn to eat fish with bones in it. It's quite easy---maybe slow you down a bit to savor the flavor! I think it's wasteful to fillet fish.
  17. Nope! Not in the least. Just some banter on here on OFC.
  18. You must know the unedited version of the joke, then!
  19. How about when it says the high for today is 20 deg but the current temp is 22?
  20. You mean as in "Let's be Frank. I'll be Frank tonite, and you can be Frank tomorrow nite'? (old joke)
  21. Then again, not many people get second-guessed by a groundhog either! I've noticed a general trend----they predict 30-40 mm of rain 6 days ahead, then revise it 3 days ahead to say 15-20, then 1 day ahead to say 5-10, then we get 1-5!
  22. I assume that some of you have tried this for lakers near the bottom. Does it work well? I intend to try it later in June.
  23. Thx L19-----I understand what you're saying quite well.----good explanation.
