For the benefit of the Frequently Confused Club(of which I am a charter member) could somebody pls explain what is mean by 'dropshotting' in the modern day context. I understand it's basically having a sinker below the hook, or hooks, but are there any other defining characteristics. I don't understand what would make that a 'finesse' technique. I'm not being sarcastic, just curious.

I doubt the roof would be strong enough to withstand the loads. One big bump and the roof caves in on the passengers. I wonder if it had to pass any safety stds at the time?

i just re-read your post. If it's just mildew on the gunwales, rather than them being rotten, you can just sand them off and re-varnish or re-oil.

My gunwales are attached to my Novacraft with screws rather than glue. I didn't find it necessary to steam the wood.

Gunwales are normally made of ash. You can buy them from Noah's in TO but they are pricey----may not be worth it for an old beater. If it's a Novacraft you can get the gunwales from their shop in London.
