Yes those little guys count. Here's one that I caught that's even smaller.

Did she fire 6 shots or only 5?

I know they weren't woodies. They majority of his lures started with a "W" (willeys, whileys something like that) & those were used the most. I've seen other brand lures that look the same as the ones that we used. Here's the one that the 36" & 44" were caught on:

I’m not one for trolling because I find it can be a bit boring at times, the fish are usually half wore down from being dragged so it’s more like reeling in dead weight most of the time, and I don’t think it’s as challenging as casting for them. Plus I have bad luck when it comes to trolling, not that I get skunked but when it’s my turn at the rod (doesn’t matter what order I’m in to take the rod) I ALWAYS end up catching the smaller fish while everyone else pulls in the lunkers. I think I’m cursed when it comes to trolling. I went trolling for musky in Lake St. Clair today on Dennis’s boat along with his brother Tim & Adam. These are guys that I met online through the Lake St. Clair fishing site that I belong to. We started by the Belle River Hump & worked our way towards the Thames River. We went 5 for 6 in about an hour & 40 minutes time. The one that got off looked to be about 18 or 20 inches that was caught on the slider but we only saw him jumping with the lure & never even got a chance to grab the pole with him on. Biggest was 51 inches 32 lbs (Adam), 48" 25lbs (Dennis), one that was released at boat side about 44 inches (weight unknown but maybe went 15 lbs) (Tim), & a 36 incher (me) & another one that was around 30 inches (me). ALL fish were released screaming & kicking thanks in part to the new livewell that Dennis bought himself for his B-Day just yesterday. ;D The short period of cloud cover (11:20 AM until 1:00 PM) was the only time that we caught musky. We did land a 2 lb smallie & a 5 lb channel cat as well. I'm not sure what the lures were called (I'm a noob when it comes to musky lures) but all had yellow bellies. 51" 32 lbs Reviving in livewell. 48" 25 lbs My little guy (36 inches) 5 lb Channel cat on a musky bait

The BEST place to fish in Ontario is Lake St. Clair.

Yet another way that the rich get to take money from the poor.

if you could only have one bait in your box, what would it be?
Zib replied to banger's topic in General Discussion
That is so true. I know a few guys that will put out marker bouys in fishless spots just to get people to fish by them while they're fishing the spot that has the fish. -

A 4" Berkley grub in pumpkinseed on a 1/4 oz darterhead jig. -
That would be sweet to do!

Here's a live fish cam of the St. Mary's on the Michigan side. http://www.lssu.edu/arl/fishcam.php

Your impeller can still be bad. Just because it's in one piece doesn't mean it's still good. The impeller becomes weaker & more flexible over time. The more flexiblity in it the lesser water it will draw. Did you check to see if there are any scratches in the impeller housing? On most outboarts the impeller is locked inplace by a key (a pin that incerts into the shaft), make sure that is still good else the impeller won't turn properly or not turn at all.

That's an awesome job you did.

I went there back in 2004. Had a great time & caught a ton of fish. We stayed at Pine Portage lodge as well. There were 12 of us in the group & we slayed the walleye. The food was really good & great service. Great staff too. We ran the place out of beer in 2 days. They will give you a map of the lake when you get there. We mainly fished the central part of the lake. For walleye try the south side of Elmer's Island. There's about 4 or 5 other islands next to Elmer's that produce just as well. We caught a lot of walleye there & some pike. Caught most walleye there drifting a Lindy rig with a minnow on a plain hook. Jig/grubs worked well too. For pike you should go north of Elmer’s Island. Look on your map & you will see a weed bed by Sandy’s Rock & No Fish Bay (there is fish in that bay). That weed bed produced a lot of 24 to 28 inch pike. Go north of there you will see Rapalla Island where you can catch some pike there as well. The best spot for pike that we found was just off the southern tip of the island that’s west of Rapalla Island. On the southern tip of that Island is a rock/weed hump that comes up to about 4 feet. It’s probably around 20 meters across & isn’t marked on the map. If there’s a strong wind out of the west or east the mouth of Agamik Gap is really good for bigger walleye (5 to 7 Lbs). Fish the drop offs close to shore. The walleye ambush the bait fish by the current breaks. There’s a nice little bay off of Dick’s Point that we caught a bunch of pike up to 32”. For Perch try the rock piles by Simon’s Bay. For shore lunch be sure to do a broil one of the days because it’s awesome! Be sure to post back of how you did. Be sure to take GOOD rain gear with you & extra shoes.

Nice fish. That dogfish is huge.
-
Try using an 80 Lb flouro leader. I started using them recently, haven't caught any more musky but have caught more smallmouth on my musky baits.
-
If someone believes that fish is 12 Lbs. then I've got some ocean front property in Iowa to sell then.

The problem with many of the newer fishing shows today & hunting shows for that matter is that they just don’t get it. They catch a huge fish or a monster buck & the first thing out of the guy’s mouth is, “that’s what it’s all about BABY!” It’s not about catching the big fish or bagging the big buck. It’s about being in the outdoors & enjoying what Mother Nature gave us. Catching a trophy fish or bagging a trophy deer are just a bonus.

I caught one that was about 12 inches in Lake St. Clair before. Didn't know what it was until a couple of years later. If my scanner wasn't broke I'd scan it so I could post it.

Nice report. Too bad about losing your rod. My cousin lost his $200 G-Loomis & $100 Shimano reel while fishing with me once. We were drifting with crawler harnesses & he set his rod down & when he turned around it went over board. I once caught a rod & reel that had a live worm still on the hook. There was a guy & his wife/GF drifting in front of us & it must have been their rod. Once I pulled it in I looked to see where they were but they had already taken off.

That's a beauty! Did you catch her trolling or casting? The musky have been hitting good the past week or so. You can check out the forums on the following link to get some more reports. http://www.lscn2.net/forums/index.php?showforum=5
