  1. That reporter isn't a fisherman so the idea of icefishing probably bores him. He writes tech articles not fishing. He just likes to play with his new tech gadgets then writes a weekly colum about them.
  2. Here's a video blog on ice fishing Lake St. Clair. http://www.freep.com/wendlandvideo
  3. I went to WFN's website & they offer free On-Demand video of all there shows after they have aired. Hopefully they have tonight's show on there later on.
  4. Thanks Fishindevil, Unfortunately I don't have the option of getting WFN here in Michigan. My choices are The Outdoor Channel & Versus (which I believe is OLN's new name). In order to get those channels I have to get a higher end digital cable package that comes with movie channels that I could care less about. I get my raise in a couple of months so I'll be upgrading my cable service then. My son will be happy because then he can watch the Red Wings on Versus.
  5. Too bad I don't get that channel. I'd like to see them on the Detroit River. Can't wait to spring so I can get out there. Does anyone know if OLN went off the air or did they change their name? I'm looking to change my cable providers so that I can get some better outdoor shows.
  6. Nope. Not interested in that at all. Actually I don't want to do anything related to finance or accounting other than doing it for my own business. Being an auditor, I see a lot of businesses that waste money that they pay to CPA's that they could be doing the work themselfs.
  7. It's funny that you posted this question because just this morning they talked about this very topic on the local news. They said that more than 90% of 1st time business owners report a loss in their 1st year of business. They said that before going into business for yourself that you should talk to other people that have started their own business. They also said that a majority of the people wished they had had some financial education prior to starting their business. I have wanted to start my own business for years. Being an accountant/tax auditor I believe I have a slight edge over those with no financial background. Problem I have is deciding what type of business that I want to start. I have several ideas but always find something negative that makes me change my mind.
  8. >>>25.) 80% of Men who read this will try mixing the Clorox and brake fluid.<<< Just as soon as it warms up outside consider it done.
  9. I almost took you up on your offer. I can put up with crazy Americans because I'm one myself, I can hold my liquor, but I can't put up with the smoke.
  10. If you are going to be fishing in Cook's Bay you can get minnows on the ice at the end of Gilford Road. Look for a green & white shack that says "BAIT" on the side. A guy named Peter sells them for $4 a scoop (approx 48 minnows).
  11. If you are planning to go on the big water then definatly get more HP. As someone else said, 2/3 of the boat's max HP rating. You don't want to get stuck on the lake if a storm comes up & be under powered. I had this happen to me when I was fishing in a friends boat. We all put on our life vests because it got that bad, that fast. Being under powered we ended up getting stuck in some rocks near an Island because the motor couldn't handle the wind & waves.. Also you should look for a boat with a wide beam. That will help a little with the waves.
  12. I went to Pine Portage Lodge (Kaby Lake) back in Aug. 2004. We caught a lot of walleye & pike. Even my father-in-law caught a lot & he's not a fisherman. Not many trophy fish (though they are there) but you will catch a lot. They don't have any bass but do have whitefish & perch. The food at the lodge is great & the people very friendly. Our group ran the lodge out of beer in less than 3 days. Here's their link: http://www.fishthefinest.com/
  13. Unfortunatly I was short on cash & missed his concerts in Detroit back in December. Hopefully he'll play some more shows in Detroit. Back in '96 he had 7 sold out shows in Detroit.
  14. The guys that caught it post back on the cooks bay fishing board and said that they used 4 Lb test.
  15. Rich, When I fished without a shanty I found that I also caught more fish with a 6" versus 8". When I fished in a shanty I found no difference. The problem I have with the 6" holes is when using my tip-ups and a largemouth comes along & takes my 8" chub & it gets difficult to get the bass through the hole.
  16. For me I need 4 inches of solid ice and below freezing temps the whole week before I will venture out. Just because it's 4 inches under your feet doesn't mean it's 4 inches 10 yards away. I was fishing on 8 inches some years back when I had to chase the lid for my minnow bucket that had blown away. Within about 25 feet away from my hole the ice started to break up under my feet. I was fishing over 40 feet of water so I had to crawl back to my gear then moved to a safer area.
  17. I gave up fishing LSC a long time ago. Seeing too many Coast Guard rescues made me stay away. It amazes me to see a guy get rescued from a section of ice that breaks off & starts floating across the lake & then turn around & head right back out to fish. My life is more important than a couple of perch.
  18. I know what you mean. I just went to a fishing show this past weekend. They advertised how it was a fishing show that had the largest selection & best deals on tackle in Michigan. Ya right! They had more tackle last year and the prices were a rip-off. The majority of the booths were non-fishing related. Some old lady was pestering me to put some stinky lotion on my hands & some other clown was trying to push gutters that don’t get clogged with leaves. Too bad those gutters cause ice damns & cause more damage than a gutter clogged with leaves. Tackle vendors can't afford to spend $800 plus for a little 8' X 8' floor space to sell tackle at a small mark-up. The only good thing about the show was 2 of the 3 seminars I sat through, Kevin Van Dam was worth the time spent along with this other guy that guides on Lake St. Clair & Lake Erie. I said in the past that I wasn’t going to any more shows but every year I still end up going because I get bored sitting around the house all day listening to the wife carp & the kids fight.
  19. There are a lot of lazy people out there that want to take the easy path to sucess. I take great pride in taking a deer that I worked hard for. Here's my buck of a lifetime as of this year. Maybe next year I improve on it.
