Simcoe changes from week to week.
Last week I managed 1 bass and a dozen bullheads.
I think I'll leave the bassin' for you guys; this weekend I'll be perchin' .... Don’t buy up all the minnows!!!!
buy a chair??
build a chair!!! you already have a 500 hour project; what's another week or two for woodwork?
p.s. don't forget my offer to help out with the paint
I have a little hand on experience on the matter: I've worked on planes for 15 years and also worked as QAM in a weld shop and currently own an Al processing/paint shop.
If money was no object.... my next boat would be 5mm welded Al plate
since I work for a living I'll likely end up with 2mm riveted sheetmetal.
I think it boils down to QC
If you want to buy a welded boat make sure it is assembled by a craftsman
if you buy a mass produced boat then stick with rivets.
BigBuck: thank you! first time I see Stahn craft mentioned.
Kemp looks like a nice option, precisely that type of place I'm looking for.
I just don't get it how plywood and carpet are acceptable materials on a boat?
My current ride; a 30 year old riveted alumacraft that still holds her own. I'm starting to wonder how my more can she take? (I’ve had her to hell and back) I think I have another season with the 'ol girl but after that I think it will be time to upgrade so I'm starting to look at some options.
I'm doing a little research into welded boats
looking at the likes of: Stanley, Harbercraft, weldcraft. Are there any other brands to consider? places that use thick Al?
I'd like something in the 17 foot 100/125hp range.
Same with me.
The last time I went out to perch Eerie I could not find any minnows. The last place I went had the Gulp on sale so got that.
A 1/2 day of fishing without a bite I went back to the dock and started begging some boaters. Went out to the same spot and picked up dinner (about 10 fish) in just over an hour.
Live update from my balcony:
stay home!
Heavy swell I'd guess around 3 ft and a good chop
A few whitecaps but they are all the way out as far as I can see
Only 2 big sail boats on the water right now @ 6:30pm
Don’t do it.
If you take the boat out 30 times a year for the next 5; a total of 150 water days.
27k\150 =$180/trip + + + + + you are at $250
save up some cash...
for 7500 you are in the market for some real nice boats.
7500\150 =$50+++ you can have a nice on the water for $150 day
conclusion... buy used and you can run for free for around 4 years?
Nice work but why the auto paint???
this stuff should be done using a single stage polyurethane over epoxy.
best yet, anodize all the AL bits before the primer.
. . . after the season I'll make a step by step from stripping to anodizing to paint.
Might even mill out some knobs .....
where do you get all them shiny bits? can you post a few links where I could get some ideas?
the only places that you can buy good steel is Sweden or Japan. yes it will cost ~200+ for the knife..... it will last a generation or two.
I'm not a knife snobb but once you try sharp you can't go back.....
