  1. I think it's one thing to ram a car you're following too closely but when presented with a fully stopped vehicle that was up until that point not in the rider's visual awareness, then I think I'd be disinclined to blame the motorcyclist. Not to be morbid but a bike dash cam would speak volumes. In the end, many lives are uprooted no matter what her sentence.
  2. was curious so google mapped it and it's 100 kmh. oddly enough, minimum was 60. two lane concrete top. I don't believe there's anyone here who wouldn't stop to help animals but I can probably state for fact that we wouldn't stop in a live lane, let alone without hazards on.
  3. all reports I've read say the limit is 100, so if he was doing 120 then this would be nothing unusual tbh. even for ontario
  4. Good to hear you had a great time on Wolseley Bay and at Totem Point. The scenery is much more intimate than the West Arm and offers a different feel, one I'm sure you noticed and enjoyed. Now how about some photos of all those walters
  5. It's very possible that the bike was behind another car that made a last minute avoidance leaving little time for the bikers to take action. Same thing happens on the highways here when you come across retreads all over the road. I think we've all stopped to let animals make their way but I would never stop in an active passing lane. Sorry, not much sympathy for her since she obviously didn't consider the consequences of her actions. and was being a relatively new driver an issue ?
  6. Some camps have what look to be converted cargo containers as rooms, all lined up side by side. Walls looked corrugated and everything was steel. It's a room but some place one would want to be holed up for any length of time. Couple of rough bars in town if that's your thing. The town is pretty ugly from what I remember. But if you can swing decent digs, the money can be attractive.
  7. sweet god those are beautiful specimens !
  8. Not fair to blame the GTA. Peterborough, Ancaster, Kingston, Brant etc went Liberal so their support was not just urban centres. Hudak is paying for his 100 000 and Million Jobs mistake. When economists call out your plan and you argue it, then your plan is doomed to go down in flames. PC's need a leader who has a better personality and can connect with people. Hudak was not that man. Far from it imo.
  9. what a great report and fantastic photos. agree with everyone here, Sean's big smile says it all !! awesome job by everyone for getting Sean on the water and back in familiar surroundings.
  10. Think you better bring all your bug stuff Lew and your Skeeter *will* probably be the biggest one there. at least for your sake I hope it is lol
  11. first off… will take black flies over mosquitoes any day. ok, am south of North Bay and the black flies had a short run this season (although they reappeared last night for a spell). The mosquitoes are the worst I have ever seen. coils burning, themocell inside etc..top of my head is a mess of lumpy bites. I find Afterbite (or anything with ammonia) helps control the itch. anyone have experience with these CO2 generators ? thinking of one for the yard so the evenings aren't a total write-off.
  12. I just planted some Mary Washington crowns I got at Evergreen Brickworks. They're 1 years though. Gonna be hard not harvesting them but they need their energy to grow a strong root system so I can live with that. Have you thought of getting 3 year old crowns ?They look huge compared to 1 years. -I would try the Brickworks but Mark Cullen writes that you should be able to find 2 years at most good garden retailers.
  13. It's probable that the conditions in the bay were calm enough to give them a false sense of what might lay past the gap. Also, much would depend on how tight the waves were. If they were very close, they probably swamped from the stern. I don't mind large waves if they're spaced wide enough that you can ride the trough up and over the crests. Still, snugging real tight to shore on the lee side is always the plan if you can't sit tight for whatever reason. and the single pfd still bugs me…why only one ?
  14. If they rented from the outfitters, then I can't see how they can be short 3 pdfs. No way. I know the manager who runs it and he's solid. They most likely would have told them of the conditions past Sproule Bay as well but not sure what powers they have to stop them. Hope the two missing paddlers will be found/recovered so their families can move forward.
  15. Tragic story. I wonder if they made it out of the bay past swimmers island or not. A pfd is not going to do much good in the spring if you can't get out of the water. A floater suit, wetsuit or drysuit may well be the only thing keeping you alive. Also wonder if the outfitters warned them of conditions ?
  16. can always put cloches over the plants to give them a bit of protection.
  17. and don't forget the clipboard
  18. great report and yeah, that would have been great video of the thieving gull lol. the only thing better than spring in the Park, is fall in the Park. next, year, hit the long carry, could be even better waters for fishing.
  19. nice day on the stream Chris, beautiful and great you got your pb broke ! not familiar with Butterstick so thought to myself 'self, that's sweet, a bamboo stick' google filled me in lol
  20. Very tragic and unfortunately preventable. I feel for the families of the fishermen. While hypothermia is the usual killer, I also understand that sudden exposure to extremely cold water can cause heart attacks or cause gasping leading to involuntary intake of water=drowning. Dressed properly, cold water doesn't always kill. Stay safe while fishing in this late spring.
  21. true or not, this is a great story. can picture the poor sod getting hammered by the tykes lol. almost pissed myself laughing at some parts. http://themetapicture.com/welcome-to-norway-little-american-soldier/
  22. guess they're too cheap to buy those bear proof garbage bins eh ?
  23. probably how it was supposed to play out in the end. if you ever do find it, maybe place it in the bush somewhere to restore some balance ?
  24. Sorry all but imo, if he can't even stick to his efforts to lose weight (to much self promoted fanfare) then this is even more of an uphill battle. I would love to see him get better for the sake of his kids but I'm not expecting much change at all and he should have done this last year when the first video surfaced. I think this is why some people are quick to jump on Rob, because he HAD the opportunity to deal with it earlier. That's one year wasted. People (myself included) are just skeptical that this is a sincere effort and not just more pr spin. I've known a number of alcoholics in my life (one a relative) and their stories weren't the ones with happy endings so I understand the Herculean struggle that Ford now trods. Regardless, this is a very sad story that I hope doesn't end in an obit.
  25. I do as well but they (obviously not the kids)are part of the cycle of enablers who let it get to this point. He's surrounded by enablers and THAT is a major problem.
