  1. never have Wagyu but I'd venture to suggest that anyone willing to pay that much for steak is off their rockers. If I were to spend that much money on beef, I'd go to the source and get it from Japan. There are also farmers in Ontario that raise Kobe or similar cattle/beef. Keep the bucks here instead of flying it in from Aus. Similar to argument I hear about best sushi is in Vancouver etc. or coastal cities. Lots of great seafood is flash frozen on ships so there goes that tall tale
  2. $310 all in is an amazing price, if the bite is on. Actually, if the scenery is as great as it shod be, it'd still be worth it. Although I think you mean Elk Lake and not Elliot Lake As for the pike or lack of, I've never found them on walls that drop straight down. All have been in weed beds or near pencil reeds. I can see pickerel and bass hanging at the drops and jigging shld work. Did you try trolling along the steep shoreline ?
  3. I dunno about that Loco Moco Brian. I love bacon and eggs but that looks totally whack ! I'd try it though lol. can't be any worse than the Garbage Plate at Nick Tahou...
  4. I also have two Weber kettles (one at home and the other at the cabin). I plan to use those for smoking using the snake method, otherwise would bring up the Masterbuilt. @Big Cliff, I hear you about the simplicity of electric but the cabin is off grid so propane or briquets is the better option for me
  5. Resurrecting this thread with some info after using it a bit. Have smoked side ribs only so far but salmon/ trout and pork butt are in the works. First smoke was 5 hours straight, no foil. Was good but not great ring. Next few were 3-2-1 method which was much better, or I got better quality ribs lol. One thing about the Masterbuilt I need to tweak in the temp control. VERY hard to maintain low and slow with this unit. Looking at getting a needle valve to allow finer control of temps. Speaking of which, the built in temp gauge is way off. Picked up a Maverick 377 and life is so much better. Wireless so I can monitor from inside or out. also these two sites are great resources for all things meat http://amazingribs.com http://www.smokingmeatforums.com
  6. I have an Otterbox for my 6 but can't remember which one. All I scan say if I lost in the snow in the gutter of a Fort Frances sidewalk and when I found it, worked like nothing happened. has the screen cover that allows bio locking which can be very useful. I missed my BB keyboard for a year or so but the iPhone is a better media consumer and has more apps that I need. If BB Storm was not fumbled, they'd have more share.
  7. I have a 6 but know people who wish they'd bought a 6+ instead of 6. got mine with 128 gbs of ram. camera is great. much will depend on how many apps u use.
  8. I'm still a few years away from freedom but SWMBO and I have thought about this as well. If we did follow this path, it'd be a diesel pusher pulling a small vehicle. I wouldn't bother trailering a boat as the times I would want to fish, I'd find a lodge/resort that had camping space and rent their boats. or I'd strap a Portabote to the side for smaller waters. I like the idea that in a motorhome, everything is in one large space and there's lots of room if travelling with others. Would get cramped in a crew cab on long days. ymmv..haha
  9. Others may know for sure but I was of the understanding that one had to have an Inner Harbour license to operate a boat, from Humber Bay to Bluffers Park. That's a lot of water so not sure hope often they spot check. Thought about getting the license but never got around to it. and it's a big lot but bring your nose plugs, last time I was there, the place reeked of who knows what died upstream
  10. progress man, progress ! and that cute chinese girl in the chair would be worth the three weeks of pt/ot
  11. expensive lesson learned imo.
  12. but it'll help with removing the feathers and beats standing over an open fire singing them off lol
  13. was at the aquatics today when we won some hardware. looked iffy for a bit with the women's 10 m but they nailed their last dive to grab the gold. walked over to roller sport speed skating and that was interesting, seems like it's popular in south america judging by the results
  14. holy smoking jayzus Lew ! Glad help was there asap and you're much better. never heard of swarm attacks like that before unless a nest or colony was threatened but you've been there for years so it's strange that this happened. Be interesting to have a local beekeeper come by and see if he can figure out what they were. I know I've seen few things that I haven't seen before. metallic blueish looking thing, almost wasp length but didn't bother me. wonder if keeping an epi pen or something similar on hand would be worth looking into having on hand.
  15. wonder why they're playing 7 vs 15 ? I'd be going to Hershey Centre or whatever they're calling if during the Games, for the martial arts. Love me some judo and wrestling
  16. Lee Valley Tools has a motion sensor water spray that shoots out like a regular sprinkler. No idea if it works but they have a good return/exchange policy so I'd try that so be worth confirming their policy.ed it- couldn't find the Lee Valley link but this looks to be the same thing from HD. http://www.homedepot.ca/product/spray-away-motion-activated-sprinkler-animal-repellent/824716
  17. With tickets sales way below expectations, dropping the prices will be a necessity to getting bums in the seat otherwise the tv cameras will need to be selective about what they show. nothing like empty seats to instil booster spirit lol.
  18. Second the night drive though LSPP at night and moose. but drive slower than you usually would if you do. I found them much closer to the road than other places Bullwinkle usually hangs out at. I stayed at the Fairfield Inn and Suites when I'm in the Soo. great rooms and quiet. you can often find very good prices depending on when you're going. decent free hot breakfast and across from Marks Work Wearhouse if that can be considered a selling point lol.
  19. don't laugh but I keep char cloth and a sparker with me. and some red bird matches.
  20. There are different types strokes and hopefully it was a TIA vs any of the other nasty ones. and whatever the doc says is probably golden so rest up, get better and you'll be back on the water before the hard water season begins. And you have everyone's support and encouragement if you need to adopt a lifestyle change. I'm sure many of us have had to give up some of our vices and fav foods but it can be done.
  21. that you're able to bang out this post is a good sign and hopefully a little bit of medical tlc and you'll be discharged soon. fingers crossed when they wire you up to the ecg machine and all shows ok now if only we could do something about all the deep fried shore lunches that are part of the fishing tradition. sorry, it's been something on mind for some time and concerns me when I think about it. don't get me wrong, I'll inhale bacon like there's no tomorrow but maybe only once or twice a month if that, but I'd like to see some healthy food options for shore lunches. apologies for the preachy tone and I hope everyone understands the well meaning behind it
  22. it's a Sienna on a Tacoma 4 by frame. I've seen uglier vehicles than this haha
  23. yup, gonna need a full coverage helmet with that ride lol. Fish Hedz won't do much in a crash
  24. Definitely looks like a head turner and would love to know the price if/when it comes out Wonder what the tow capacity is on this and how hard it would be to modify it for camping. http://theawesomer.com/toyotas-ultimate-utility-vehicle/326032/
  25. if I win this Friday I'd buy it and leave it open for OFC'ers lol
