Vehicle .... leasing or financing?
pikehunter replied to okumasheffield's topic in General Discussion
If it can be a tax write off then lease, that's about the only way it's sensible. Even my accountant advised me years ago to buy and not lease, but I did lease twice. The second time was in 1997 for a 4 year term on a new Aerostar and because of my unusual situation at that time it more than paid for itself. And to top that off I let them talk me into a disabillity insurance policy. And that actually paid off too! I went on compensation for an extended period, about six years, so after about a year and a half of payments I never had to make another lease payment again and even though the buy out wasn't a great deal I bought it out cash in hand. Reason I bought it was I knew the van's history and that made the buyout worthwhile. Buy it, or even better pick up a slightly used one. Stay away from leasing...don't be their slave every few years. Remember even though you don't own it you still have to do maintenance and repairs including new tires, exhaust etc. -
Both knees, ostio arthitis. Had the right scoped a few years ago to clean up my memiscus and he cleaned up some arthrits, had synvisc shots and multipule cortizone shots in both knees. Going to probably have my left knee scoped soon for a shredded memiscus I hope, but artritis will still be an issue as well as my messed up kneecap. Tried high doses of advil and it helps me a little, tried aleave too with the same results, T3 too and I don't like the effect and taken Oxy rarely but I don't take it and find that it doesn't help the pain, only makes my brain say I don't care about it. Doctor spoke aout a knee replacement but said that I'm too young (55) as it would probably wear out soon anyway because experience tells him that at my age I'm still too active! And I'd be back in a few years for another. Walking most of the time with a cane now and it helps me to move around easier. I'm afraid of falling if one of my knees gives out, which they do and I don't want to end up on the floor. Getting up from sitting is very painful and it takes some time to get a little flexible. By the time I finish an 8 hour shift at work walking on concrete floors I'm done. Also I am having my left lower leg swelling up like a balloon, have had 2 ultrasounds and other tests done because they were concerned I may have a blood clot but thankfully no. This doesn't help the knee either and it is as much trouble as the other problems. Then I had the brilliant idea one day that hey! I should take one of my wife's water pills! That will take the swelling down. Little did I know that they have sulpha in them, I'm allergic to it! I spent the next 5 days scratching hives! And have scars on my swollen leg from the hives that broke the skin from scratching. More bullcrap! to deal with. And yes I agree I have to drop some weight which would help.

Done the return to sender many times. Capital one credit card kept sending me junk trying to get me to take a card, did the RTS thing and after several times they either got the hint or just changed their marketing program. I still do occasionaly get addessed junk mail but lately ignore it. I think the worst junk mail is the kind asking for money....you know the type, gas bill, phone bill, electric bill, house tax bill ...... all junk mail!

Your'e exactly correct Dave. Yep Burns has been there on Plains Rd. for quite awhile, but as shown on the map, Sail is going to be near Tiger Direct and Costco, not in Ikea's current location. There is a somewhat large building under construction on the Service Rd. right now.

I tried to threaten them with that once Wayne. Didn't faze on him at all. He reached his hand into his pocket and said there ya go, 35 cents go ahead and open yourself up a new account across the street. I left and bought some penny candy at the corner store.

A great day on the ice with my son
pikehunter replied to crappieperchhunter's topic in General Discussion
What a great message to receive and congatulations on an excellent day fishing with your son. Congratulations to your son also, working, going to school and purchasing a home! He's really a busy boy and deserves a pat on the shoulder. Now then, can I send my son over to meet him and take some lessons? -
Never stayed at Golden Eagle but I used to fish downstream from there. Up Consol Creek and above the dam also around Elk Lake. Lots of pike. In opening waleye season you can do OK around the bridge in Elk Lake and the bass in the Golden Eagle area can be good as well as some eyes. Some old fellas told me that the waleye fishing above the dam used to be amazing. If you head that far down the river to where the dam is be carefull, it's really stumpy and your prop will became an excellent log finder. Well this may help you a litte, if not then at least your thread got bumped up. Have a good time at Golden Eagle and I'm sure they can direct you to the current hot spots.

Roots in my drain line Half way to the road

Good one Aplumma -
I also think the wrecking yard maybe the next cheapest to printing off the important stuff and don't bother printing off the junk like how to wash your car pages. Or: from helms I always wonder how owners manuals get lost? Doesn't everyone just leave them in the glove compartment?

Dave, I think he meant against the cop, not the defendent.

Hey Dave, My Ford has an alarm that goes off if the turn signal is flashing too long. First time I heard it was signalling to enter an off ramp and I just let it stay on flashing 'cause I was turning anyway. As I was sitting at the light waiting an alarm starts blasting. Basically it's saying you dumb ass turn off the signal. Told my son what happened and he said "See, I told you it's an old man's car!"

Roots in my drain line Half way to the road
pikehunter replied to davey buoy's topic in General Discussion
Just had a similiar problem, wasn't roots though but a calcium build up. House is about 60 years old with clay pipe sewer. Blockages were on both my side of the line and on the city's. Had the sewer power flushed by a guy that has a truck mounted unit and it took him 2 trips to break it up and then I also had to have my driveway dug up next to the house to repair a break. Cost me about 2 grand in the end and I have a gravel patch in my driveway now that I have to repair. The city would not help with any of the costs, said something about being on my side too so basically they just told me to go and blow it out my ear. Also the guy at city hall said that power flushing/cutting the blockage out doesn't work but I have the before and after video to prove that it did. Plumber also said to quit using 2 ply toilet paper and no grease down the drain. Has anyone tried finding 1 ply paper lately? Hard to find, so we've been buying a 2 ply septic system safe type but did pick up a huge package of 1 ply in the states last week when we were in Dearborn. -
I've had many, many ideas. Trouble is I'm too lazy or am I too busy doing other stuff to bring the ideas forth and then some time usually passes by and BAM! Someone else went and did it! I then spend a week bent over kicking my self in the butt. I'm such an idiot...or is it my quest to just remain poor? My wife's uncle held patents on quite a few things ranging from misile guidence systems to touch keypads like on your microwave oven and the little hologram on our paper money. Yes he died wealthy but to no advantage to anyone other than his offspring, and that's only right. He also worked on the Avro Arrow. He was a pretty fart smeller.

Like Lew, Jimmer and Autographs said. I have an uncle who drove for months with a burned out headlight and he had a spare replacemet headlight in his trunk. Got pulled over a couple of times and said it just burned out, sorry I'm on my way home to fix it as I don't have any tools with me, it worked back then. After getting pulled over once, about 30 years ago, for a burned out licence plate light I try to remember to check my lights regular and try to instill this in my son. Reason: It just gives a cop an excuss to pull you over, why give them a reason to screw with you? BTW, yes your ticket sucks! The cop is an

An American (Canadian Citizen) bringing his boat to Canada
pikehunter replied to fishnsled's topic in General Discussion
I would keep it as registered. Customs inspector may ask if the boat is returning to the States though if they do then just answer yes! I think that it will be a smaller and less frustrating can of worms to open then the hastles of registering it here. But that's only my opinion, best to enquire with customs. But I think that is their main concern, if he is bringing it up here to sell or if it is going to become a permanent fixture. Isn't his tow vehicle registered in the States? Same thing is't it? I believe that there are a lot of Canadian registered RV's and boats that made their way to Florida and then get stored down there over the summer for use next winter, same sort of thing...right? I had an aunt and uncle who had moved to the States and were still classed as Canadian citizens, whenever he towed a house trailer behind him the customs inspector always asked if that trailer also had Indiana plates on it, that was all. But then that was back in the seventies. -
I thought that was you I saw across the aisle!

Last renewal I bought a 3 year for my wife and myself, that way I beat the HST ! That was the only reason, figured it was the easiest and only legal way to cheat the government out of some tax money...even if only for a few bucks.

I had a very well worded although somewhat sarcastic response all typed out to this discusion but I hit the backspace key and decided the last sentance in my post was good enough and wraps it all up. Geeeshh! I should go and just learn to keep my mouth shut 'cause like they say, 'Even a fish wouldn't get into trouble if he kept his mouth shut."

Sorry to hear you are in so much trouble and how bad your condition has become. Sometimes I wonder if certain doctors have more pull than others? I have not had to wait that long for an MRI as yet. The 4 I have had were at Joseph Brant in Burlington. Just had one on my left knee last Friday, I had about a 6 or 7 week wait. The last MRI was on my heart and abdomen, it was around 2 months, the time before that was my right knee which was about 2 years ago and I only had a 2 week wait and was booked for surgery about 2 weeks after that. Considering all I think wait times are not that terrific and I wish you well, start raising some crap with your elected government reps and like Cliff said threaten action. As a side note; My best buddy passed away a couple of years ago because of a misdiagnosed lymph node cancer. If the doctors had been on the ball and figured out his problam sooner he would have had a chance, after dinking around for a month sending him away with pain killer scrips they finally figured out after he entered emerg in a wheelchair with no bodily function control "Hey this guy is really sick!" we better do some tests and then it was downhill for the next 3 months with never leaving the hospital after that until the funeral home arrived. Time for the officials in Ontario to smarten up!
