MY BOAT SANK! NEED HELP (update #3, May 9)
pikehunter replied to young_one's topic in General Discussion
I'm sorry to hear about your incident. whether it was an error on your behalf, a manufacturing problem, a dealer problem or even foul play it is bad news. Looks like you may have to replay the day to find out where the problem originated. You are probably talking to the dealer right now trying to find a solution, and that is where I would start. You never know if he has an immediate answer (in your favour of course, not one that makes his life easier) and resolve the issue right off the top. I wish that it all works out well for you in the end. We all can empathize with your trouble. If it is a prob with the boat then I hope an easy resolution is reached. If it was your own fault or vandalism...well what can I say? I hope you didn't piss someone off out on the lake! This reaction would have been a more than mean. It would be criminal and if so then what goes around comes around...or something like that. Crossing my fingers for you. -
Wow! NIce size kitty! And I have to say...looks like a picture of beauty and the beast.

Yeah I know the "u" in certain words really is redundant. It makes sense to drop it as it pretty much silent anyhow. It's just one of those things with me, to make sure that those who drop the U know there is another way to spell it. Something like the time I walked into a butcher shop in a town somewhere near Corning NY one day and pointed out to the shop keeper that they had something for sale that is not available in Canada... "Canadian Bacon" She did not see the houmour (there's that U again") in my comment. Maybe we can slip that "U" into Canada Day somehow Eh?
-
Ohiofisherman....You do realize you spelled "neighbours" wrong, right? Just kiddin' wit' ya Eh!
-
LOL Terry. The Friday Canada Day idea will go further.
-
Not a bad idea. Personally I would vote to have a Canada Week, everybody has a week off with pay Or how about a week when we pay no tax on income, pay no GST and pay no provincial taxes! That would be retailers busiest week in the year. But really, your idea makes sense.

You're right about the Ranger and Explorer bumper hitches, but they are formed into the bumper just like a regular pickup truck bumper, right? Hellfish is referring to an after market bolt on affair. This I believe is not the same as what you have. Aerostar's rear bumper is not the same as a ranger's, it is more like a car's bumper.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you Verno, in hopes that the rest of the hull is also sound.
-
Looks like a fun project. Just watch the wallet and don't spend any cash on items that are not needed. What condition is the hull in? You mentioned the floor, carpet and seats. But as you probably know the hull is the most important. Those old glass boats can be pretty rotted. The fold out seats can be replaced. There are many internet sites that sell them. As for the motor. Get it running before spending time prettying it up. Good luck. I hope to see a photo journal of it soon.

Myself neither, I wouldn't trust to tow anything on a bumper hitch. The shadowmount is frame mounted. Would an Aerostar even be able to use a bumper hitch? The bumpers are only a frame covered in plastic.

No such thing as a stupid question. There are only stupid answers Sounds like you bought a nice package, congratulations and have lots of fun with it. We are all are anxious to see the pictures. Enjoy!

I have a '97 Aerostar too! Had it since new. I put a Reese Shadow Mount - Class I, 2000 lb./200 lb. tongue weight hitch on it from Can. Tire. I pull a 16' tinny with a 25 Johnson. It does the job, you don't need the bigger hitch for this size of boat. I had to buy the receiver bar with the bend in it though as the straight one didn't raise the trailer tongue high enough. The day I bought this hitch was the same day that a hitch shop was to put a class 2, something like the Omni Fit Class 2 in the below link, on my van, after sitting there for over an hour (had an appointment too) they came and told me that they thought that there was one in stock but they were wrong. I left, went to Crappy Tire, bought the class 1 and did it myself. Not that hard to do. Reese Shadowmount link 3rd hitch picture from the top is the one I have. Sorry, can't remember what it cost.

Yep another reason for the non-fishing public to want to close down a public access point to fish from. What a bunch of IDIOTS!!

If you are taking Plains Rd. from Burlington stay on it and it becomes York Bl. in Hamilton. (If you take the 403, exit at York Bl.) When you see Dundurn Castle on your left you are on the correct route, at the stop light veer to the left. Continue to follow York Bl. heading toward downtown. Before you get to Copps Colosseum turn left on Bay St. N. Follow Bay St. down to the harbour. You will pass Barton St. and then go over a bridge which crosses the CN Railway tracks. You will see Hutches then you will come to a 4way stop. This is the entrance to Pier4 Park. Turn left here and go down the hill and continue down around the curve and enter the boat ramp parking to your right. Hope this wasn't too much detail.

Neat report, it's not everyday that you go pike fishing and catch a seaplane Good job with helping out a guy in need and you gave us a photo journal to top it all off.

Thanks for posting the warning Photoz. We do seem to have an overabundance of them in some urban areas. Is it because of people feeding them and they are lingering on, or is the general swan population higher than in the past? If you had run into one of those pesky women who feed them you would have had an even larger battle to fight! She may have smacked you over the head with her cane for hurting her big bird! I wish people would refrain from feeding the ducks, geese and swans. It only keeps them hanging on. I launched at LaSalle Park one day and someone had dumped a whole bag of corn on the dock to feed them. It could have been a very dangerous situation if somebody was to slip on the kernels.

Good post, a couple of keepers is better than none. Where's all the jumbos and the tagged ones hiding?
-
OK, thanks for te clarification. Guess I'll just put my ol' hat on my head and go have me a swig of Grannie's shine

Just went out and checked the backyard, the front and the sideyard. Not a worm to be had. Guess the grub killer I doused it with last year might have killed them off. My father had the same problem at their house, used grub killer and then could not find a worm. But why is it the grubs still live but the worms are gone? Sure seems that way anyhow.

Sorry to hear it was canceled...Remind me please, was this a carpal tunnel operation? Getting old and forgetful I guess.

Just look for the convoy of boats and you'll do fine if early enough you can prob launch at the narrows just down the road from Tromblys. Be careful, watch out for the yahoos in the bigger, faster boats and catch lots of perch! You and your son have a great day!

Wooooooo Doggy! Nice lookin' Lektric Geetar there Jed! Now is Granny gunna be playin' da fiddle wit ya? And Jethro on da banjo. You gunna make Earl and Skrugs jealous wit dat.

Ancient Remedy for allergy suffers to try....
pikehunter replied to dsn's topic in General Discussion
I have had a lifetime of nasal problems. Allergies, continuous sinus infections, congestion, you name it I've had it. About 10 years ago I went through sinus surgery and also the centre part of my nose reduced too. This did help, but part of the therapy is to use steroid nasal spray and I hate it because it causes nosebleeds. Stay away from nasal spray decongestants (Dristan) if possible or only use them on occasion because the rebound congestion is even worse. Go to the pharmacy and pick up a small spay bottle of any brand of "Saline Nasal Spray" it does help to relieve problems of congestion by moistening the nasal tissue. This saline mist/spray sounds like a commercial version of the salt water thing you are describing and you won't experience the gagging sensation so much. That is if you use it correctly. The spray only costs a couple of bucks. -
Just hope that you stopped to breath once in a while while you typed that.

This is also my thought. I would feel safer with a lower centre of gravity. You had better hope for nothing but calm water in a 12' modified in this manner, well in any 12'er for that matter, I have had 2, 12' boats and never again . It does look attractive and functional and I admire the workmanship that went into your boat.
