  1. No sure what the towing capacity for the CRV or the RAV4 is?
  2. Great group....had a blast! Wings HIGHLY recommended.. John..
  3. I have heard lots of good things about the Santa Fe. I have owned an Escape (V6) and would recommend it. Rendezvous gets good write up's, so I would think that you are headed in the right direction. Subaru Forester would also be on my list. John
  4. Thanks for the comments guys. Just bumpin' this up to the top again....
  5. Classy job Rick, we wouldn't have expected anything less.....
  6. 7 1/2 weeks to go and I'm drooling.....have already gone through all of the spots that I passed by last year and wished that I hadn't. Sooooo much water, so little time. I'll be riding shotgun this year so when we get up there really depends on my "drivers" work schedule...
  7. Wayne, I have a few ways figured out. Yours is one of them... grt1, I was (am) expecting to pay reasonable taxes. I wonder how many cottages there are up there that "don't exist"..
  8. I know that this topic has been floated around currently and historically, however I would like to put a different slant on it. Barbara and I have been considering (for way too long) downsizing our house as the kids are long gone and using the equity to purchase a cottage. Ultimately we will find a way to leave it to the kids.... Although we have talked about this for a while now, we have never really have the gonads to actually do it. If we don't do it now, we will continue to get left behind as I believe waterfront properties in Ontario will outperform long term as they have over the past 10 years. My question is this....If you had to choose anywhere within 3 hours of Toronto, where would you choose and why. More specifically, what would be your priorities and why? ie., fishing, recreational boating, quiet, close to conveniences, type of terrain, winter access, island or not, marina accessible...What negatives would you consider? I understand that 75% of what is 3 hrs from Toronto is unaffordable (at least for me), but at least I will get others ideas to compliment our own. John
  9. Will be there Roger. Squid, wanna ride???
  10. Tony, Scott Calder does a good job. He's in the yellow pages under Floor by Scott Calder. He did floors for me a few years ago. John
  11. I'm in Roger...maybe with my dear wife, maybe by myself... Pete, If you need a ride no prob, Barbara doesn't drink... John...
  12. Great report MJL.
  13. Have a great day Roger, wish I could have joined you. Nice to see you at the "office" today. John
  14. It's amazing how some (note some) hunters go into immediate damage control mode when someone is shot. There is no excuse for shooting someone. There are no accidents. Just stupidity. If in doubt, don't take the dangg shot!
  15. Good morning Brian. First of all congrats on a milestone that 2/3 do not reach... My sincere condolences on your loss. I lost my Grandfather many years ago now, yet I still feel his presence from time to time. I'm sure that he will always look over your shoulder........... John..
  16. Hi douG, how are they hanging......? As you obviously are looking at something with a long zoom take a look at these... http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Canon/canon_s3is.asp http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Fuji...inepixs6000.asp http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Sony/sony_dsch7.asp I have the Fuji and if you like the manual side of a camera you will love it. Has RAW capability. It doesn't have IS but if you can compose a shot without shaking there are no probs. If you like more of the auto features go for the Canon. Don't know much about the Sony except their lenses are AI. I have talked to a couple of guys about the Panasonic and they were only luke warm about it. Used to be that the Leica lens sold the Panasonic camera... Having said that it's really all about what works for you. I would probably spend a night or two doing the touchy-feely thing at a place like BestBuy etc and then decide what you like. Price on all of them is not very far apart. Don't make the mistake that a lot of people do and get caught up in the MP race. 6-8MP is way plenty. Putting 10+ MP's on a tiny sensor doesn't make a lot of sense to me as you suffer in other areas. Try getting a price from Dave Chong (I believe that's his name) from the board. He claims that he will give OFC's the best price anywhere. Good luck, J...
  17. Hey bookoo, how are you liking the 6000fd? I got one a few months ago and really like it. Musty admit that I haven't used it as much as I would like and I'm still trying to understand all of the manual settings. John
  18. Lew, When I lived in the UK some friends ran a hamburger joint on the sea front not far from where I lived. They had an English Mastiff (of Hound of the Baskervilles fame) who was a really big boy. At closing time they fed him the leftovers and he ate a hamburgers, bun and everything with one chew and one swallow! Of course he is long gone, however I have photo of him consuming his 6th hamburger in 2 minutes, the kids loved to have their photo taken with him......I will scan it and post it if I can put my hands on it. John..
  19. Hey Pete, I hear that they are putting a Walmart at Fairview and Appleby!
  20. It seems like so called tourist areas have been granted the ability to impose a levy under the guise of tourism development! Guess where the additional few % points go......into the pockets of the already overpriced places that are charging it. I was in Niagara on the Lake last year with my wife and we bought a few items to take back for our grandchildren. When we discovered the so called additional tax I challenged the store and they said it was a "tourist tax". When I asked whether it was a provincial or municipal tax she got a little upset and said "it costs a lot to run a store you know". At that point we left!
  21. I can only go by the article in Angling Times (UK). It was rod and line caught. I think that the way that I see the photo is that he is sat with that enormous belly over his knees...
  22. Hi Hookset, I wish you well. Keep up informed...
  23. Too bad..... kids should be able to be kids, without the pressure of parents wanting to live their lives through their children. You must be a joy at the hockey arena!
