  1. I have been a volunteer for the last 6 years and I love it. All areas compensate differently, my area does a points system. You get points for practices you attendand also for calls, longer the call the more points. Since my township has 4 firehalls how it works is say the TWP has $100,000 to spend on fire dept, they add up the total number of points from all the halls and divide that into the $100,000 and then get a value per point. So if there was say 10000 points divided into $100,000 each point is worth $10 if I made all 36 practices (usually an hour and a half) I get $540 for the practices plus however many points I accumulated by reponding to calls. I usally get around $2000-$2500. I believe the $1500 of that is tax exempt. You are not going to get rich doing it, but it sounds like you are getting into it for the right reasons so that won't matter. BEst of luck to you. IAN
  2. very nice. At least yours are edible I have a crabapple tree in my backyard has so many apples on it branches were breaking. Wife won't let me cut it down. I told my 7 year old i would give him a nickel for everyone he picked up so I could cut the grass and I am now $28 poorer. So far we have picked up over 800 apples from the tree and it still has some on it. If I was ambitious I would try making crabapple Jelly. Ian
  3. Hey guys my mechanic at work suggested maybe a lawn tractor battery says I should get about 25-30 hours before it needs recharge and I can get one for around$40. Any thoughts on this will it work etc. Ian
  4. thanks for the help guys. I priced a 12 v 7amp hour at the source $60..I may just run it off of my trolling motor power box for the rest of the fall and look at other options this winter as a small project. Ian
  5. Those are some amazing fish . I need to spend more time flippin:worthy: Ian
  6. I purchase a Hummingbird Piranhamax 160 late last year and have yet to hook it up. I have a 12 foot tinny with a minkota trolling motor. A month or so ago there was a topic in which many people posted pictures of how they made fishfinders portable. Some very nice setups I might add. My question is that many of the batteries seemed smaller in size ( I do not know what volt they were) than I would have thought. Do they not need a 12 volt to run? What batteries are being used to run these as I too may make mine portable. So looking for any help for a fishfinder newbie. Thanks guys and yes I know this does not mean I will catch more fish LOL Ian
  7. MY local CT didn't receive ant either in HUntsville or Bracebridge. Got some rain checks gonna give it a try when it comes in. AS far a line memory on trilene mono I have used it for 25 years and never had any issue at all with this, here's hoping I never do. Ian
  8. Cool video Wha the heck are they fishing for that you need to troll that fast?? And if your not fishing then there is no need to be in a boat LOL

  10. Mike p the long sleeves are my fault I told him to put them on this morning... I meant overtop of a t shirt but somehow that got lost in translation. So all he had was a long sleeve today. Ian
  11. Well the plan was to leave at 6am. Alarm goes off wife gets up to have a shower, comes back to bed 3 min later. I say is it raining she says no its 5 degrees outside I am not going out in that, rolls over goes back to sleep. So we hit the water around 9 am fished till 12:30pm. No monsters but around 20 fish today most in the 1-2.5 lb range. My son has figured out that if he nets it then he can hold it for a picture so he has started grabbing everyones fish and posing with them LOL. I tried some new things today. TIed on a chigger craw and worked the hles in branches of a fallen tree. I was about 6 inches from the tree would pick a hole drop it down. I have seen this on TV but I am always worried about spooking fish. Well it works was in about 3-4 feet of water and landed 2 using this method. All fish were caught on Senkos, chigger craws and topwater frogs. Ian
  12. I too have registered good luck with the business Ian
  13. My seven year old son and my--- year old wife LOL both use a zebco 33 combo I bought them from BPS for $29.99 they fish about 5-7 times a month and love the rods. My wifes is the lady version and has pink stenciling. Ian
  14. Well I finally managed to get my seven year old and my wife out fishing on Monday. Between running my son to Karate, skateboarding and Guitar lessons not a lot of time for a family fishing trip. Took them to a small cottage lake where I have managed a 4lber every time out. Usually 2 or 3 of them..... Until this year. 2 times now no 4lbers. Had fun just the same. Fished from 8is till noon managed 8 fish. In talking to some cottagers I may have found reason for poor fishing this year. It seems opening week 3 boats with 3 guys in each boat in radio communication were seen leaving 3 times with a limit of bass each time. MNR was called stopped them on the last trip out but they only had their limit, other fish as far as I know were not found nearby. But they did get caught with drugs in the car. Unfortunately this is a small lake and if they took 30-40 bass and I presume most were large fish. Even in half of those wer 3-5 lbs, as this lake usually holds, it could devestate this lake of so me prime breeding age fish. Ian
  15. they are paws not flowers mercman and he is a boy ..... man you are gonna give him a complex LOL
  16. thanks for the comments guys, fishing seems slow to me this year but maybe I was just spoiled last year. Most days I catch fish just not as consistent of a bite this year. Ian
  17. My inlaws moved to sundridge 11 years ago and 7 year old just came back from a week there he recognized the pictures right away as they had lunch there. If the guy from the bar lit it up I hope he gets his ass handed to him. Ian
  18. Several lakes nearby if you have a boat. Shoe lake is right across the road from raven lake landing there is a public dock about 1km in shoe lake road, Paint lake is a 5 min drive as is lake of bays. Good luck with both treatment and fishing. Ian
  19. He had an ear hematoema ( filled with blood). Could be a burst blood vessel from shaking. His ear is normally about a 1/4" thick it filled with blood and swelled to about 1 1/2- 2" thick. Ian
  20. Got up at 5 am to go fishing with my brother, was supposed to be wife an d7 year old son but $1100 vet bill on Friday and dog has cone on his head so wife doesn't want to leave him alone yet. Headed to a lake I have only fished once so we tried the end we have not fished. Nothing spectacular largest was around 3 lbs. I really need to figure out how to hook my fishfinder up to my tinny as I know they are in the lake just not too many along shore on this day. Saw the craziest thing, a sunfish somehow wedged itself between my brother's Senko and the hook of an EWG hook. I don't think I will ever see this again.
  21. I made one trip to BPS and after seeing the instore prices I am not surprised, just shocked it wasn't in the store. In all seriousness I am glad no bystanders were hurt. Ian
