Went to the Dorset kids Derby as we do every year. Great event all kids get a prize $2 to enter and they provide the worms. Great prizes also including Shimano combos. Takes place on the dock By the Bridge in front of northern delights. Usually catch rock bass and little smallmouth. 3rd cast today my son catches this beauty. Biggest fish of the Derby. Very long and skinny I put it around 2 1/2 lbs. Figure it would be pushing well over 3 if it wasn't so skinny. Thanks for the read Ian

Great report!! I have recently decided to take up fly fishing again after about a 15 year hiatus. Picked up a cheap Hobbs Creek combo 5 weight at BPS ( same crappy service as my only other trip there). Hoping to find some beauties like those fish. Ian

If you are familiar with the area you could try the Locks on Brunel road, if you get to the school you have gone 100 yards too far. Also on your way to the Locks there is a public dock just past cemetery on the left where people fish for bass and pike. Also have seen people fishing from public docks on main street behind Pizza Pizza. Good Luck Ian

I live in Baysville and work for the local Township which takes me around Dwight, Dorset and Baysville every day and 40% seems way off I would have guessed25-30%. At least 2 weeks until better than 50% would be my guess. Ian

Have to go to a wedding in Walters Falls next Thursday and Friday we will be staying at The Falls Inn. Bringing the fishing gear to pass the time, just wondering if anyone knows what species i may catch? I have been told I can fish right at the Inn, just wondering if there is any where close by that may be better. if fishing Whitehouse bay you want to use the launch at the town of Huntsville Dock . . It is located on South Portage Road however there is only enough parking for maybe 4 trailers. From BaYsville launch it would be 10 min boat ride max to Whitehouse bay. There is also another launch on the Dwight end of South Portage and a launch on Dwight beach road in Dwight Ian

Hey I live in Baysville the launch at the marina on North road is owned by the township and is a public free launch trailer parking is located 30 seconds away by the tennis courts. There is also one about 10 km up the road on old HWY 117 beside the Bigwin Island docks. Good luck ian

Well my young lad heads to the in laws for the week on Monday. Decided to head down for another evening of fishng before he goes. I get the goat horns tonight as last night Tyler had a snag and I tightened his drag to break line. Yep you guessed it, I forgot to loosen it back off for tonights fishing. He had a great fish on jumped several times looked to be all of 4 lb smallie. About 1 foot from shore as I am running to help him I hear the deafening snap of his line breaking. I felt like crap when I realized what had happened. We did manage to land some fish. My first fish was around 2 1/2 lbs and when I got it about 3 feet from shore in about 2 feet of water i noticed 5 more fish identical in size, give or take a few inches, swarming around the hooked fish. I have seen 1 or 2 fish and several small ones follow a hooked fish but this is the first time I had seen so many large fish like this. We managed several smaller fish before I landed the twin to my first fish. Later on my wife got in to the act with a fish similar in size 2 2 1/2 lbs. All in all another great evening. Thanks Ian

Well my young lad spotted my minnow trap in the shed a couple weeks ago and wanted to try it. So we set it last night for fishing today. I have not used live bait (other than the odd worm) inover 10 years got tired of having my traps stolen. The old stomping grounds didn't dissapoint trap had about 8 dozen minnows in it this morning mostly golden shiners and dace. We headed to the dam at 8am Tyler had 2 fish before I had a hook on my line. It continued from there for 30 min we had a fish every second cast. Then Tyler decides to move down a bit to fish. The result was a fish every cast no monsters but he did manage 3 or 4 cookie cutters in the 1lb range. FIshed from 8 until 11 caught about 40 fish. We headed down tonight to use the rest of the minnows and to see if I could redeem myself LOL Fishing was not as great but steady. Biggest tonight was around 2 2 1/2 lbs When my wife said hold it sideways so can get a shot of the gut I thought she meant on the fish LOL Ian

Well I placed an order a couple weeks ago with etackle. Needed some line for the new baitcaster I bought and also a few new Live Target frogs. My wife got a call from Phil last week that the order was returned to him. He was very apologetic and insisted he would throw something in for the troubles. Turns out it was a shipping label issue. Package arrived today with everything I ordered along with some FREEBIES. I would have been happy with a package of hooks but no here is what arrived Package of saft baits 2 hard baits package of line Very unneccessary but greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot Phil for the great customer service. Now if I could get you to carry everything I use I would never have to order any where else LOL Thanks again Ian

First off thanks for all the responses. Second if we stick to the original topic many of the threads on this board would not end up being locked, if you want to comment on another issue start your own thread. To comment on a few of the earlier posts No walleye within 40 km of this body of water so shouldn"t have been a surpride they were catching bass Never thougth to get the plate number as I never dreamt this is what they were doing and by the time I found them they were long gone. Never considered taking them home to eat because a dog was munching on the other pile I did not photo so lord only knows what was on these fish One of these days I will figure out how to quote so you know who I am responding to LOL Thanks for all the comments Ian

Went down to the Dam this evening to teach my 8 year old how to cast with a spinning reel and also to cool down a little. A couple were already fishing our favorite spot so we moved 100 yards or so down shore and fished there. The other couple were having some success no monsters but catching fish. They left 20 minutes after we arrived and we decided to move up to where they were fishing. It looked to me that they were keeping some fish which i have no problem with even if the biggest looked to be about 11 inches or so. Upon arriving at the spot they were fishing I found out that they were indeed keeping the fish. Problem was they were keeping them out of the water to die not to take home and eat as this is what they left behind. There were at least 4 other fish 3 smallmouth 1 rock bass also left on shore to rot. People like this piss me off. Why bother fishing? These are the fish keep our fishery healthy. The couple looked to be between 50 and 65 years old so I can't even blame it on immaturity due to age. My 8 year old was really ticked off at this he kept asking me why they would do it, and I had no logical answer for him that didn't involve swear words. Well that's my rant thanks for letting me vent Ian
