  1. Ya...I was wunderin" how the grass was going to get taken care of also... Have fun Lew and Diane...If you find yourself up this way terrorizing Meely's muskies watch out for the "Tin of Beans" on Tait's Bay...
  2. Lots in the Kawarthas...
  3. Page 79 of the regulations for zone 16 (incls L. Simcoe) states: for a sport fishing licence 50 perch daily (possession 50 (exception L. Simcoe 100))...50 sunfish daily (possession 50)...30 crappie daily (possession 30)... How this converts into pails full, I don't know... I would like to see the same limits applied to zone 17 (Kawartha Lakes)...
  4. Good question Jer...We are kinda wonderin' the same thing...Crappieperchhunter and I tried boating to hunt for them and caught a bunch of blugills (big ones) but I blanked on the crappie and Steve caught a half dozen maybe (no size)...Nanook fished from shore and put us to shame...in one little spot he nailed a few good slabs...looked good on the old guy !!! I think the cold nights have sent them out onto the lake...we need the nightime temps around 10*C... Steve and I are going on a search mission today to check out a couple of areas we heard were producing well...got our fingers crossed...
  5. The last two nights of zero celcius sure shut the crappie down in our area...one of the boats found some a little further out in the lake from our shore spots along with a bunch of bluegills...I told my bro-in-law that it was bad luck to bring a banana in his snack pak but did he listen...oh no...what does that crazy old beans know...
  6. About half way from Buckhorn, ON and Nanook's house... West of Buckhorn off Lakehurst Road...P'Boro is about a half hour away
  7. Good on you and the shore fishermen Ron...two of the boats were asking and telling each other what tournaments they were fishing this year...don't think I would trust their weigh-ins and little did they know that a couple of the shore fishermen could put their boats to shame and one of the boaters did go home, docked their boat and joined the shore brigade...
  8. You're right Jack...Saturday was a zoo...but we managed a bunch for dinner for four and we have some fillets left over for another feed for two...Sunday was lousy weatherwise...no matter the company was good and Cliff was the only one keeping any...Today the weather was great and once the day got warm the bite turned on...this afternoon dave and I had the joint all to ourselves and the wind...nearly a hit every cast...we C & R'd some nice slabs and a big bunch of smaller ones...no boats to contend with today...Dave insulted the guy in the only boat who was trying to tell us it is against the law for Tim Hortons or other such places to refuse to let a non-paying person use the washrooms...gotta believe Dave...32 years on Metro police force...after he told him he was full of Bull the boat left... I wonder what makes the yo-yos with the big bass boats think they own the water ? I was thinking of running back home and gettin some three ounce carp sinkers and start bouncing them off their boats...parking right where we were casting was just ignorance as far as I'm concerned Besides...using a $60,000 bass boat to catch crappie seems like a bit of over-kill... No pictures allowed Dawg or else suffer the wrath of Uncle Vinny (The Chin) and Guido...
  9. Do the shopping by yourself when you get to your destination...that way you get what you like to eat...
  10. When it comes to cleaning, nobody does it better than Crappieperchhunter...
  11. We used to do well fishing off the cement pier opposite the statue (Champlain) in Couchiching Beach Park...
  12. Ya...but you sure put a smile on CCMT's face...
  13. Uncle Dave and I'll be trying to put Meely and Buckster on some crappy...Poor boys have never caught one...
  14. Stay away from Pigeon Lake...Ain't no fish left...Meely and Buckster's sister caught them all...
  15. You can always slip a piece of surgical tubing over the "R" bend to form an eye...
  16. You are absolutly right my friend...stopped by Mark's Worm Warehouse for some 1 3/4 inch Fin S shads and some 1/16 ounce lunker jigs and Mark had a bunch of the "Fitovers" for $19.99 Got me a pair of them...a bit tight going on (prob loosen up in time) but very comfortable to wear and what a difference !!! Dropped by the new Kawartha Lakes Outdoors store in town and met Paul Clark and his dad (I think it was his dad)...They didn't have exactly what I wanted but they do have a good selection of stuff...If anybody is in Bobcaygeon and want to check them out they are in the back of the building where McDoos restaurant is opposite the Municipal parking lot... My bro-in-law (uncle Dave) is coming here Friday for a few days of crappie fishing (got any venison pepperettes Meely? Or were they Joe's?)...we will both have a look at both stores then...He loves to buy real ugly lookin' lures... ...you should see the apartment size tackle boxes he lugs around...full of Ugly Lures
  17. I have been tempted to order a pair of those over your glasses frames I saw advertised on TV for $29.95 plus S&H...You get a bonus clip to hang them on your sun visor...and a second pair for night driving... It would cost me more than the price in gas to drive to BPS... Unfortunately I didn't get the phone number...anyone help ???
  18. Welcome to the club...we moved up here 16 May 2003...and don't get out of Tait's Bay very often with a 14 ft tinny (Tin of Beans) and a 4.4 hp Mercury unless it is damn near dead calm...
  19. No Costco or Wal-Mart...(yet) but lots of Tim Horton's...Zellers, CTC, Loblaws, Food Basic, Giant Tiger, 2 bait and tackle stores, Marks Work Warehouse etc. Lots of fast food outlets and restaurants... Pickerel and carp fishing down by the locks...
  20. Nice clean lookin' cat you got my friend...Glad you had a good time despite the weather... Cheers!!!...Mate
  21. Thanks for the report and video Ryan...I loved the sound of the squeals of delight when she was bringing in that first fish...
  22. Sounds like you got the basics...#6 or #4 size hooks are my choice...haven't tried float fishing for them yet...I use a 1 or 2 ounce spring feeder with moistened ground bait (sinker is built-in) which slides up or down the line, a swivel, then a 12 inch hair rig with softened maize for bait (and chumming)...17 lb test mono and my hair rig is made with 12 lb test fluorocarbon leader material... We can get into that when you come back...for tomorrow I would carry on as you are and enjoy the fun...
  23. Ya...like the man sez...a baitrunner takes some getting used to...hard to remember to shut the free spool off before setting the hook when your alarm is screaming and the fish is stripping off line...then try untangeling a bird's nest with 20 pounds of angry carp on the other end...took me four lost carp before I got the hang of it... Before I had a Euro type carp outfit given to me, CPH's wife got a big laugh out of him and me scrambling down the bank chasing my old carp rod (Ugly Stick) and reel (Zebco Saltwater spinning)...but we got it ok... A baitrunner is the way to go...
