  1. Better than a skunk! Nice weather eh?
  2. Unorganized Township means there is no municipal government. If there is a community, there is often a Local Service Boards that administers/sets taxes on things like roads maintenance, community center, volunteer fire. Everything is run by volunteers. For small communities, it's the best government system because the townies run it and have a true interest in keeping costs low and service quality high. No waste of taxes on politicians or high-level managers or administration. Other than provinicial tax portions and school taxes, all the other tax dollar go directly to services. Awesome isn't it? Unorganized Territory is an even higher level of unorganization. A lot of place far north have that designation.
  3. Don't they say 1 in 10 people are gay? If that's true, and based on tv culture I'd say it is, then why not teach it in school? I see many people in the public that shouldn't have kids; I'd rather rely on the schools to teach kids these things, than their lunatic, lazy, worthless parents. When I was in school, being gay was a bad thing and we were brutally mean to anyway who wasn't straight as an arrow... man were we mean and I regret it. My dad was a teacher and he had strong anti-gay attitudes as well!..not anymore. The culture based on 'traditions' and religions is absolutely counter-intuitive, both to science and to society. I'd rather over-liberal weirdos over right-wing brainwashed idiots. I fall in the middle somewhere I think. There is definitely waste in Government, and Hydro one drives me friggen nuts, but government also has a role in society as much as the economy. I agree that financially this provincial government has screwed up big time and I'm personally feeling the pinch in taxes, higher rates etc. and will not vote for them next time (nor did I last time!). I can however, separate the financial failures from the positive gains in some circles of society and the environment. The current federal government has been good to me financially, but they are creating a culture that I feel is anti-canadian and it's pisses me off so I won't vote for them either. Life is hard to balance, there are a lot of things to get over and move-on from. I'm very happy with my life at home, so the things I can't control don't bother me so much.
  4. Limey, life is certainly imitating art in that photo/painting!
  5. I was hoping to see a flaming bass, but this'll do!
  6. Haha, $100/sq.ft. I meant. New math? Need new brain.
  7. Based on my plants right now, it's gonna a good BB season. If you want to do some serious BB picking, come see me, we can get 5 gallons each in a day. The wild strawberries are really good this year!
  8. Doing nothing is probably the best plan. The lake would rebound on it's own just fine. Unfortunately neither rec angler or FN can be patient for more can 1/2 a season.
  9. $1000 on and including the foundation and pretty much functional. That's what I was estimated by two companies. Just the building is much cheaper. Figure 150,000 for a new small house isn't bad. Another vote for unorganized if you are going to build!
  10. Taxes in unorganized townships are going up this year and over the next several years. It won't be a ridiculous jump, but it'll be significant. All the northern municipalities with high taxes are blaming unorganized twps. for being a burden on their services... it's just tax envy from their own spending/salaries/mismanagement and since city services cannot be used by non-residents for free they really have no good reason for saying that... people in North Bay actually tell me I should pay them to use their roads hahaha..maybe I'll take all my business elsewhere then, and at the same time everyone from out of town should pay a toll to have the right to enter North Bay hahaha. Anyway, what you are looking for will be very expensive and restrictive. Buy a property you can live and play on...much cheaper and more options to be had. As for the wife, I know a few people who their spouses said they need civilization, until they move to the country, then they say they could never leave. It's just a lifestyle change, but usually people get used to it. Be prepared to buy lots of screen for a porch/gazebo!! Waterfront land will cost over 100,000 at the very least. Buiding a rentable place will be well over 100,000 and you still have septic, well, driveway, chattels, dock etc. A pre-fab is about $1,000/sq.ft installed (based on my local research). Lake front property is crazy expensive nowdays...on the plus side for those who buy now, it will likely keep going up in value.
  11. You sound just like the lady on the phone at the CC company haha. "It's only $100, sir". The fact that it's that easy to get up to $100 is brutal, imo. I'm on my statements like dirt on a pig, but most people are not, and it just opens things up to petty thieves. Plus, who needs the headaches of dealing with cc companies? If they decide they don't want to cover it.... It'll be as much fun as settling an insurance claim.
  12. cancel card, switch companies, drop your limit to a reasonable amount and tell them you don't want the tap feature which is the most dangerous thing they've ever done.
  13. I think the idea is that by going over 18", people will catch/keep very few fish. Nearly equivalent to closing the lake.
  14. Greasy carp! So what were you actually fishing for when you caught the walleye and musky?
  15. Ya, Joey bailed on me. Lots of boats out there... a guy showed me a 23lb trout he caught last year!
  16. Public pressure on the MNR maybe? Anyway, I trust that the lake will rebound with the current management practices. The lake took a beating, now we need everyone to hold hands and be patient.. it's a walleye factory and it just needs some breathing room and maybe a boost (stocking). The local FN seems a bit more inline with what the other stakeholders are saying, so that can only help.
  17. Your obsessed with Kathleen. Kind of weird. Clearly they were harassing wildlife. Moose are a managed big game, so yes, this is different than kids innocently handling frogs/snakes. If I punched a deer, it wouldn't really affect the deer, but it's still a jerk move.
  18. Sure, a moose attacks my car as it slows down to avoid hitting him, but this moose doesn't turn around and bite loser's face off. I feel bad for the moose.
  19. that's just not true Rick....just NOT true. A heck of a nice day wasn't it?
  20. It's in pretty rough shape...I assume the buyer will use it for parts My lawn cost exactly the price of a 24 of Coors Light to get cut haha.
  21. I assume it's early 1900's, but there are some parts that are newer than original.
  22. This pile of metal was here when I bought the place, at the base of a steep drop behind my house, right where I want to make a killer snow-slide! Well, I posted it on Kijiji and sure enough someone wanted it, dead or alive. He paid me for the unit and the extraction, and he can deal with the shipping to Manitoba (not cheap!). A local crew did me a big favor and yanked 'er out. Check it out.
  23. That would be a perfect companion to my Husky Buddy. Cute as hell she is.
