Well, this is sad news for sure. It's really too bad. The big box stores sure do kill the little guys but this is not only in the tackle industry. I am sure everyone here has shopped at Zeller's, Can-Tire, Walmart, Price Chopper or The Barn before and these stores have also killed the little guy in the food industry, auto parts, furnature, clothing industry and almost anything else you can think of. This seems to me to be just the way it goes. It is terrible for the little guy but we are all guilty of going to the big box stores of some kind! I do miss the smaller hardware stores since they had better one on one service but most of us rush to Home Depot for hardware. Couple reasons. Selection and price. I try to support the little guy at times but with gas prices the way they are, I NEED to save every cent I can just to keep fishing so if a small shop has something for $100 and the big box store has it for $80, sorry to say, that's where I am going. The big box store! Sad but true. Good luck to all the little guys out there. I wish you all the best and will support when I can..... Sherriff

Anyone have any info on where to get the best price on 24"x24" patio stones in the Hamilton area? Best I found was close to $6 each. No one seems to have seconds in this early in the summer.. Thanks Sherriff

Any of the BIG pet stores (PetSmart, Petcetera etc) have them. The smaller ones are better since all the jackets have the lift handles. I was told that if you try to lift a large dog out by this, it will break it's ribs. Little ones are ok....I had one for my shepard just in case..... Sherriff

I was in Dover yesterday with the family for a drive. Stopped by the Arbour for a couple foot long dogs and then saw the same birds. I also wondered what they were... Sherriff

I have a German Shepard mut and I have taken him and a few 4-5 day trips. The first one he had never been in a canoe or boat. He had no choice but to settle down. I made a spot in the middle of the canoe with a blanket and kept it dry and he was fine. He would even go down and lay in the canoe while we were taking the tents down. Guess he did not want to be left behind. I am sure your beagle will be fine. I also bought a dog life jacket because we did run a few rapid as well. Here are a few pics.... Sherriff

I agree with Tony on the Government jobs and avoiding some Fleming courses. I too took F & W and after seeing the job prospects, I quit. During the common semester, I found I really enjoyed the computer courses and switched over to Cartography which was starting to lean more towards digital mapping and GIS, rather than traditional mapping. I did my three years and have never had trouble finding good paying work in my field. Couple things, be prepared to move anywhere and everywhere during the summers off in order to work in your field no matter what the pay is. Coming out of school with zero work experience really hurt many of my friends that took the same course. Also, after grad, go anywhere you can to get work/experience. I took a job in B.C. right after grad and stayed for my 6 month contract and then was talked into staying for 6 more. Great experience. I left that job to take a job back here with Dept. of Fisheries and Oceans. Great place and stayed there for 3 years. Cut backs were killing government programs so I left there too. Again, lots of job in GIS in every municipality, town and still in government. You can make it work but as mentioned above, I would avoid the CO, Fisheries type of careers.... Sherriff
