  1. Son-in-law Troy & I were successful bidders on the Tyler auction and had a date with FisherPete for cats on the Grand River. Knowing between Pike opener & Bass opener we were going to be limited for dates, I was trying desperately to find a date from mid April to 3rd Sat in May. Weather (miserable) & weekend commitments were proving daunting. We eventually found some mutual time & settled on last Saturday (May24th). Met Pete at the launch @ precisely 6:30 am (as agreed) on the finest Saturday fishing day so far this soft water season. As an added bonus, Pete brought along tournament partner LunkerHunter and his bigger boat. We were on the first spot by 7:00. 20/25 minutes & a baby channel cat, it was time for location # 2. Another brief stop produced only chewed up bait & nothing committing. Time to move..... We hit spot 3 I'm guessing by 8:45ish and never moved. Pete & Andy found the Honey Hole . Over the next 4 hours (we pulled anchors @ 1:00 pm) we boated an additional 24 channel cats, 1 carp & a couple sheepshead. A few cats came in less than 4 lbs, most 5-8 & I think 4or 5 were in double digits. Can't remember the biggest fish as my SIL landed the top two weight wise (in a 3rd period comeback) LOL. Pete & Andy were awesome guides. I suggested if we hit double digits, the guiding was over but these guys kept handing the rods over!!! Without a doubt, this trip was a milestone . We've never boated 25 game fish (not counting the Sheepshead) in 4 hours!!! Y'all got to keep an eye out for the next Tyler auction. This is worth it!!!! So a few pix...... Can't thank Pete & Andy enough. This trip is going to be tough to beat
  2. AWESOME DAY 4 CATS ON THE GRAND. Big thx to FisherPete & LunkerHunter. WOW!!!!

No, thank you Simon & Troy for your generous bid on this trip in the Fishing for Tyler auction! Glad the fish co-operated for us! I'll post a report for everyone to drool over when I get the pics from you fellas. And thank you also for bringing the tasty munchies!

  3. Our home lake hands down. Relocated there 6 yrs ago. Very quiet, little to no boat traffic and a busy day otw sees 4-5 boats fishing. Walleye, pike, SMB, LMB, perch & hoping to find lake trout this w/e. Treacherous launch keeps the less than adventurous away
  4. Never knew. Thx Lew.
  5. There's eagles in the Kawarthas??
  6. X2 for West Lake Willows. Scott dosnt have cabins, but his lake edge 'trailers' are very spacious & super clean. Tell Scott that Pikeslayer referred ya. He and his family are awesome hosts and he is not too bad of a charter captain
  7. Hear ya my friend. Still gotta do our annual GTG regardless. On a side note; whenever my 3 1/2 yr Grandaughter has an accident or likewise, she tells me.. "it's just a little deal not a big deal Poppa". Too funny
  8. Thanks so much Albert. We've graciously accepted Wayne's offer and are sincerely appreciative of yours. We'll see you on Lady O this summer for sure. If all goes well, Sean may be able to join us.
  9. Sean & I graciously accept Wayne I've PM'd the mailing address & I'll forward you our GPS coordinates in case you're ever in need of an emergency potty stop . Thank you, Simon
  10. Hey All, As some/many of you know, our son Sean was in a horrific MVA in February of 2013. His most severe & permanent injury (among many) is a TBI (traumatic brain injury) which has also resulted in complete loss of mobility. Given his lifetime love of fishing, we have been working with his therapy team & the experts at Motion Specialties to determine a safe, secure and portable way to transfer Sean from dock to boat. It seems that we have found a couple of solutions and we will be testing these on our home lake the w/e of May 31st. So on to the favour..... Sean's custom wheelchair will not allow for a typical 'full vest' PFD. An automatic inflatable Mustang (or similar) is the answer. My question/favour: Is there anybody in Mississauga/GTA West that is willing to loan a similar PFD for the weekend of May 31st so that we can use this during our trials? If we are successful (I'll make sure we are!!!) then WCB AB, will approve the funding for the lift assembly & the PFD. If anyone has a spare, the favour will not go unreturned. BTW, Sean is 5' 10" & approx 130 lbs (for sizing). Pls & Thx, Simon
  11. Yep. Not a lot of faith in Fish Online. Data shows whitefish, rainbow smelt, SMB, white sucker. Only one on the list caught is SMB. Caught but not listed; LMB, pike, walleye & perch. Which by the way is totally okay as folks using this online tool won't be targeting the lake for walleye & pike
  12. JT, Secchi depth in 17 m = 5 m. Latest data is 2003 though.
  13. Thx guys. Lots of options presented. I'm gonna start off the dock as the water is < 7 ft and lots of rocks & boulders. Then trolling the shallows. Yeah Chris. The last 'published' stocking data was for '05. As I alluded to, almost nooooobody fishes this lake No waste of time either. We just want to avoid late spawning P & W and figured we'd do some 'research' and see if we can find 'em. If not, no big deal. Dock the boat, open up a bottle of scotch and the humidor and we're happy happy. I'll be sure to post our findings (hopefully not the lack thereof).
  14. Copy that. Will target the shallows.
  15. Thx Bill, We have a couple of large bay areas where the main bowl transitions to 15/18' depths. Never targeted brook trout though? Slow troll & small spoons/spinners???
  16. Hey All, I was thinking that with the potential for late spawning of Pike & Walleye on our home lake, we may try to target splake (& rainbow) to give the P & W a break for opener. Lake is in zone 15, mid size with a large 60' deep bowl, with lots of transition & structure. Lake is fed by 2 small rivers. We have marked a lot of deep fish in summer & early fall which may back up the stocking information I have found on line. Splake: 2004- 5,000 yearlings 2005- 4,000 yearlings Rainbow: 2005- 4,000 yearlings 2001- 2,000 yearlings Lake Trout 2001- 1,200 17 months RP clip 1966- 2,500 yearling Our lake is 'lightly' fished (busy day would see 3-4 other boats) and walleye, pike & bass are abundant. I have never seen or talked to any other fishermen who target splake or rainbow. So as I mentioned, I would like to target splake/rainbow starting the middle of this month into early June. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. - lures/bait - presentation - trolling speed if applicabe - line recommendations - depths or structure to target - any/all advice Thx in advance, Simon
  17. Home lake in Seguin is still 70% ice covered as of Sunday past. Planned to launch the boat this weekend delayed but shod be good to go for pike/walleye opener.
  18. Apparently, they are not.
  19. Operator Error IMHO. I use the Orcas for wire dipseys both port & stern. Hooked many big fish and never an issue when setup is adjusted correctly. Did have a guest accidently knock a combo out of a Canon rod holder though
  20. Sorry Brian. Got to bail. Sean's home visit got changed from Sunday to Saturday due to staff/transportation issues.
  21. No early Robins yet. That's my sign for spring
  22. Check this out Albert. Multiple cottages, nice property and fair off season rates. Spent a few seasons up to 4 yrs ago. http://www.silverlakecottages.com
  23. Can't wait to boat a 30 lb laker Rick
  24. Sean's got his first day pass & joining the family for dinner. We are so excited :) :) :)
