  1. Again, I have no idea where you are trying to go with this. I'm sorry it upsets you that people in general don't eat a lot of carp. I have seen tons of carp caught in my life time and can completely honestly say that I have seen only 1 person ever keeping them. I was just walking by and not fishing. Not that that matters. Your initial comment was very vague except that you showed your distaste for my post.. so you left my no choice but to assume you were implying I was being racist ... which I wasn't . Don't play innocent. I don't edit my posts, and stand by what was written. THey are there for anyone to read and I won't change them. I don't understand at all how you are reading that differently. You seem to be basing your dislike of my post on assumptions that I am secretly seeing ppl eat carp all around me.. Well, I'm not. Sorry. Lastly, go eat a carp. It was your suggestion. Feel free to PM me further as I don't want to be the reason for a decent thread being shutdown based on your inability to read and re-read my posts without prejudice.
  2. I have absolutely no idea how ppl take offense to what I wrote. Are you offended that I am saying that given the choice, most ppl seem to prefer to eat fish other than carp? Or are you offended that I made it sound like carp aren't hard to catch..? Read the whole thread. If you are seeing racism in my post, you need to read it again. I'm not making racist statements at all. Lots of the responses in this thread name people of different countries liking to eat carp.. and I said that I have not seen this in my Ontario fishing. I have fished with ppl of all different backgrounds, some of which were listed as countries where carp are popular dishes, and have yet to see someone keep a carp for food. I'm sure it happens though. PLease don't read into what isn't there. In my experience, I can't say I've ever seen someone target carp for food over other species in the same spot. Target carp, yes. But not for food. Does it happen ever? Of course, but not that I've seen.
  3. nice lookin' fish. Can't beat that for convenience. Who needs a plastic bag when the fish are frozen solid?
  4. Basically you answered your own question. If you foresee the possibility of the dog running and know that tying the dog up will prevent that, then there's your answer. Or take your chances.
  5. Obviously, there is a tradition among certain countries to eat carp, especially as seasonal meals. What gets me, though, is this: Canada is made up of all races of people and people of every background fish in Ontario. Of all the people listed who eat carp, ie, Polish, Russians, Japanese just to name a few, I have never seen these people catch and keep carp in Ontario. I've seen them catch and keep lots of bass, pike, trout, well.. anything except carp. Basically, from my lifetime experience of fishing around Ontario with people from all over the world I gotta say that even the people that supposedly love carp seem to target and take just about any species they can get before they will take a carp. Perhaps in their homelands carp is all they can get, I mean, they breed so fast and take little to no effort to catch, so why wouldn't they eat them if that's the easiest fish to find. But given any other options, from my own personal experience, I think said people would gladly take anything over a carp... given the option. With so many great tasting fish to choose from in Ontario there's no wonder there are huge numbers of carp and next to no fishermen eating them. Just my opinion.
  6. That's something worth looking into. Can't say I've thought of that before. Do you have much success with this method. I guess at the worst you break the line and lose a lure and a 3 oz weight.
  7. I've had a Microsoft mouse for a few years now with back/forward buttons on the side where the thumb rests. No going back to the old way for me. THis is the way to do it. So much faster then having to click on back/forward all the time.
  8. Nice catch there. Seems like almost all the pics you see of them are in the winter.
  9. That's gonna be a hard sell.
  10. 'Tis the season! http://polandpoland.com/christmas_carp.html
  11. I guess you had to be there...
  12. It would be cool if that fish had somehow been tagged with some kind of micro-something or other to be able to tell if it is caught again...even bigger. I always liked the line from the movie "Big Fish" where he says, "the biggest fish gets to be that way by never being caught". Makes you wonder what's out there. Releasing this fish will do more for the fishery than any record ever would.
  13. Hopefully vman will make an appearance and verify he is talking about the same fish that he thinks he is.
  14. Good to know. I'll check that out. I bought my Marcum LX-5 last season on Ebay. Found out yesterday that Marcum doesn't honour their warranty if you bought the unit off an online auction. Thank God mine works fine. Just wanted to add that if anyone is buying a costly product on ebay, they should make sure the vendor is an "official" dealer of the product. If not, chances are you are going to be S.O.L. if something brakes or goes wrong with it.
  15. You forgot to make 60 bottles of wine?? Hope you're thirsty.
  16. Also called tullibees in some areas. I've only seen them in Simcoe and only ever heard of them referred to as herring there.
  17. This is from a trail cam? Or you took the shot yourself?
  18. I looked at that pic the other way at first and it kinda looked more like Nessie.
  19. I love the yearly threads of home made tip ups. Some are really creative. I like some of the more obscure ideas so long as they function well.
  20. I stored mine completely disconnected as instructed. THe battery life after 9 months or so was exactly as I had left it. I was just confused by how it was reportedly charging. THe numbers didn't make sense to me, but it was explained and all sorted out. When I emailed Marcum I was told that even when the unit isn't being used I should plug the charger into the unit once a month (every month) to get the longest life out of the battery. All batteries shorten their life span by sitting unused. That's what the Marcum rep told me anyways.
  21. Just a note about Marcums. I brought out my LX-5 today after not touching it since last season. Bought it last winter and only managed to use it once or twice. The unit was put away with 60% battery life still. There is a little screen attached to the battery that tells you how much battery life there is left. Plugged it in to charge and started saying charging 30%. This confused me since it had said it still had 60% life. Shot an email off to Marcum customer service and had a detailed reply specifically answering my questions in less than 10 minutes. Got it all figured out and the unit is working as it should. Great customer service, IMO.
  22. I have a Marcum LX-5 as well. Only managed to use it 2 times I think last season. Worked really great. One thing to note, though, is that it knocks out almost any other flashers close by. My friend was trying to use his Eagle Cuda as a flasher and just gave up because the Marcum totally interfered with it. I believe it knocks out Vex's as well. Better to take out others than be taken out! Very good unit.
  23. That's what I was thinking. The first fish is sure looking like a pike.. unless its a chain/grass pickerel. I assume that's what he means.
